The very first thing Tycho did after he disembarked, was to buy a pair of shorts and a shirt, in a lightweight summery material (along with some underwear) and some sunglasses. He stashed his plantsuit in the shopping bag, and then, pulling up a map of the city on his omicom, set out to familiarize himself with the environs.

As much as Tycho liked the idea of getting some drinks and hitting the beach, it was impossible to say how long Stacy would actually allow them to remain on this planet. The smart thing to do would be to get the needed supply gathering done first so that in the event of anything unexpected happening, they would not be forced to leave without stocking up.

Tycho gave a cursory examination to the shops meant for tourists, but he had no doubt the prices were inflated there, and they would not have things in the amounts he needed. No, instead what he wanted was to find where the shops purchased their supplies from.

It would take some sleuth work, but Tycho was sure he was up to the task. He headed down another commercial street that looked promising.

Riza may not have been aboard Stacy for very long, but she couldn't help but feel relieved to be out in the open. Somewhere other than the 'ship', and certainly not in the battle-driven Central she had been in. The idea of not being in a fight was a relief, yes, but the woman can't help but feel utterly frustrated. She was, in all intents and purpose, weaponless. Maybe she wasn't naked again, but without even a gun she couldn't help that feeling. Riza had long ago taken the habit of carrying not one gun but two on her at all times, and just before coming her she'd managed to pull out eight from various hiding places in her clothes. The point was, someone took the sniper's guns away from her and there really was no choice behind it. (Considering Stacy had called them all down there.) But even without her guns, she wasn't defenseless. Between her and the Colonel they did both knock a few guys unconscious, and she had a puppy.

A puppy by the name of Black Hayate who was currently bounding around on his newly bought leash, since 'mom' had made sure to find a place with that as well as more fighting clothes for herself. (Yes, it was one of those long skirt, undershirt and overshirt outfits Riza was prone to wearing in Central, but it worked.) In fact, Black Hayate was more than happy to test his master's patience today, because, well, hey he had an actual leash! And now he could run, play and still be in distance. Despite his training, he had been prone to do this and it's what made the corners of Riza's lips twitch into a smile. Of course she'd been worrying about things, and even worse that right now she left the Colonel alone.--What kind of bodyguard was she?

The sort that needed time away from the one she vowed to protect. It may have been two decades of knowing him, but even they needed to separate once and a while. (It wasn't as if they were always together back home anyway. Yeah they were.) Still, it was a nice break as she made the way down the planet's streets. Breathing fresh air felt right too. There were many things she could be doing, like going to the beach, but for obvious reasons the woman strayed away from there. Why? Well, first, she'd never seen a beach considering Amestris was an inland country. She'd never learned how to swim in her lifetime... And the tattoo she bore on her back that she'd never allowed anyone but the Colonel to see, even worse now withe burn marks along it. Riza had her reasons to stay away from the beach, and that was that.

Instead, like Tycho, she'd taken to entering the stores and seeing what they had, if anything would be of use for her back on the ship. She'd mused the idea of actually trying to find real food, but dropped it. The likelihood of it being far too expensive than she cared was potent. No, Riza was logical and sensible and that meant anything she saw that might work well for her there. Maybe a notebook or something, to find a way to give the Colonel that paperwork she'd promised Edward he could watch her give. She shook her head, silly ideas later, more important things now. As she turned down the same commercial street Tycho had, Black Hayate seemed to get an idea. This was boring! Look! A person to play with!

Yep, that's right.

Hayate has somehow escaped his master's grip because he sees you Tycho. Will he manage to tackle you?

Black Hayate, of course, was having a field day. Unlike the last person he tackled, this one didn't fall over! And he wasn't in trouble! In fact, the guy seemed nice. So of course, Hayate was going to try and lick his face like crazy, but all fun things must come to an end. Riza was particularly calm as she made way to find the pup. He never normally ran off, so when the person appeared at least not to be... offensive to the small pup, Riza had loosened the tension from the fact said pup had run off. Her expression was stern as she stepped over and spoke to the pup first. "Black Hayate," the voice was clipped sternly and Hayate stopped what he was doing to look back.

Ears pulled back at the expression his master was giving in understanding. "Bad dog," she said, repeating the very words she had used when the dog had tackled Edward. And he stiffened some in the man's hold, managing a small wag of his tail. Riza shook her head, running a hand over her eyelids before addressing the man, allowing the firmest of slim-smiles to take hold. (This being the normal, professional and serious smile she gave at work and to stranger that weren't children.)

"I apologize, he's normally so much more well behaved. But since we've arrived he's hardly acted like himself," the woman said calmly, eyes turning to Hayate for a moment before returning her attention to the man. Since they arrived on the ship, since they arrived at this planet even more so. Riza blamed the weather, neither of them had grown up anywhere near a place like this. Plus, the whole factor all she could think was: Great, a desert covered in water, although not quite so like that, didn't help the matter any.

Wedge's first priority had been to get real clothing that wasn't the plantsuit or a flight suit. So, now dressed in a colorful tropical shirt, shorts, sandals and a pair of sunglasses he was enjoying some time simply wandering the city. The rest of his clothing had been stashed back in his hotel room, naturally. He glanced to one side as he was walking, noting the familiar figure of Tycho Celchu. He looked both ways, then headed leisurely across the street to join the other man with a smile.

"It's amazing how just setting foot dirtside will improve your spirits, let me tell you..."

"Tell me about it. Picked up some clothes..." He mentally ran through his remaining budget. "I'm going pick up a caf machine and some other things next, I think. Supposed to meet Arha later for swimming lessons."

Wedge sighed and glanced down the street.

"It really is lovely here."

[identity profile] yubyubcommander.livejournal.com 2010-06-12 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Wedge grinned. "We can't survive without caf, after all. And you had enough time to get some real clothes, I see..."

He nudged his friend with an elbow. "Found a ring yet, flyboy?"

Hobbie, being Hobbie, had chosen to wear... something. Bright neon green shorts and a purple and black patterned shirt. He glared at Tycho and Wedge despondently. "I told you there would be bugs."

Same. Exact. Place.

Wedge snorted, repressed laughter.

"Going the 'offends everybody' route again, I see. And of course there are bugs." A pause.

"You really have the worst luck."

Like Tycho and many of the rest of the crew, Kira had gone to pick up supplies and some clothing - he didn't mind the plantsuit so much, but it was nice to get into something that didn't have a pulse for once. He'd found a relatively lightweight black shirt and pants unfortunately, they didn't come with belt buckles and was now busy checking for electronics stores. It'd be nice to have something more powerful to code on if he'd be doing more engineering work.

Kira was window-shopping for anything that looked remotely promising when he saw a familiar face coming down the street toward him - and by the way he was looking in the windows, Kira could tell that the Colonel was probably doing the same thing he was.

"Have you found anything useful yet?"

Winter had set aside a limited amount of her allotted currency with which to buy clothing and nonessentials; the rest was going into things the squadron might need. She'd already blown that limited amount, unfortunately. Although she now had enough, for now, in proper clothing, the fact that she'd had to hunt down a thrift store far from the tourist shops for it was annoying. She'd left it in the hotel room.

Twisting her (http://www.georgianjewelry.com/items/show/10777-antique-old-mine-cut-diamond-ring) ring (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Promise_ring) on her left hand, she idly considered ways to get more. Gambling, maybe; she could count cards with the best of them.

It was an idle thought. Winter could relax, could take a vacation, but just now? No. She handled loss by throwing herself into work, into absorbing as many other details as she could see. Stacy was unfamiliar enough that looking around, studying what and who she could see, doing what she could beyond that, served the purpose. And that was what she was going to do here, though she was trying to pace herself.

She saw Tycho at the other end of the street and raised her hand. When they were closer, she gave him a nod and a tight smile. "Tycho. What are you looking for?" Right to business.
