Rogue Squadron Meet 'n' Greet, Mark 2 [ Closed to Rogue Squadron]

Wedge had set up the headquarters for yet another meet and greet operation. The headquarters, of course, was simply an abandoned building with appropriate facilities he had commandeered in the city. A low building of bright red brick, it had at some point been an office complex. Now it was the headquarters of the best fighter squadron anywhere (or so the reputation went). A crude sign and been painted over the front of the building reading 'Rogue Squadron Headquarters,' replacing the precious owners which had advertised for insurance of some type. The front offices had been set up for use by Wedge and his small staff (now including Tycho, Ben and Nura) to run the squadron. Another side room had been set up as a 'pilot lounge,' though at the moment it only had some spare office furniture. Couches and other things were hard to come by on Stacy. Finally, the largest room had been converted into a briefing room of sorts, with a projector and several rows of seating, as well as tables that could be stowed or set up as needed.

At the moment there were simply chairs scattered around the edge of the room. Wedge waited, occasionally checking his chronometer. Hopefully everyone would arrive and mingle, and then he could get down to the business of letting them know exactly what they were in for.

[[OOC: Feel free to tag each other, please!

The briefing has started!]]

"Dean! Glad you're here." Kyle said as he walked over to greet the new recruit. He was pleased to see Dean had followed through on his promise.

"Well after that engraved invitation, how could I refuse?" Dean smirked back. He got some recent news that was a serious strain on him, but he had shoved it aside. Covering it up with good humor and jokes as his style.

Kyle himself was a big fan of good humor, and jokes as a cover. Jedi Master or not he still wasn't immune to sometimes being an idiot about dealing with things. "I'll have to remember to try to recruit more people at that tree then. So what do you think of our rag-tag bunch so fa?"

Dean shrugged at that, and glanced around. Some people he recognized seeing around, some looked new. And then there was his kid brother, and well any chance to get to look out for him again, he was going to do so.

"Hard to say till can see them in combat. Only real test to know how good an unit is."

"That's true, and it will take a lot of training before they're ready for that. Still I think they'll shape up fairly quickly." They really didn't have a choice. It was shape up or die, and that wasn't an option.

"Least for those who haven't been in wars before." Some of them who dealt with combat regularly were another story, and already had to adapt.

"Training is how a unit bonds. Shared hardship, and overcoming challenges together go a long way in building trust. Of course I'm sure you knew that." Kyle pondered the idea of Dean being a fire team leader or some other small position of responsibility in the team. It might do him, and the others good. He'd have to observe him closely in training to make his final determination.

"Think you'd be up for helping with some of that training?"

Dean nodded, "Yeah, depending on what I'm working with, sure. Got a class already teaching some Hunter basics.* Yeah he's trying to keep himself busy as possible. Prevents him from dwelling on darker thoughts that he'd have to drown with alcohol.

"Well I know I'll need someone to help me with wilderness survival, and stealth training for the unit. Maybe some marksmanship too if that catches your interest." Truthfully he could manage on his own, but some help never hurt. Also getting Dean around people some more couldn't be a bad thing either.

"Know a few things about all that."

Much of it was thanks to John Winchester, but he was also a natural shot when it came to marksmanship. He could still remember his old man taking him out to a makeshift range with cans lined up. And then being offered the gun, and shown how it works. So he aimed, squeezed, and watch with excitement as each can fell over. John clapped a hand on his shoulder and told him he did a good job. Right before ordering him to clean the guns after. A necessary part to owning one, even though he was 6 at the time.

"Good, I'll talk to Wedge about it then. Hope you're ready for some hard work." This was working out better than he could have hoped. Having Dean as an assistant he'd have an excuse to keep an eye on him.

Dean just grinned at that, "Damn straight I am, be about time." He didn't mind the added responsibilities. It would be familiar but different from the hunts he grew up with. Further more, he won't have to focus on that future Cas told him and Sam about.
