Free Hugs, anyone~?
Too much doom and gloom on the ship? Easily fixed, if you ask this mechanic.
There is a table in the mess hall, carefully set up just inside one of the doors, with a small sign on top reading, "Free Hugs!" Next to the sign, looking as smiley as she possibly can, sits Kaylee, ready to hug anyone and everyone who walks through the door.
Non-huggers beware, even you are in danger of some cheering up today.

"There's more than one now, is there?"
no subject
"Er...sort of." He rubs at his forehead, trying to take the explanation he received and pull what he actually understood from it. "They're technically the same Doctor. Ah...he's not exactly human, ye see, and he can change how he looks." By not exactly, Jamie means 'not at all', mind you.
"The other one looks a wee bit like a beanpole, and he has this hair..." Jamie takes his own mop and tries to make it look like Ten's spiky do. It's not really successful, but maybe Kaylee'll get the idea. He gives her a frank look.
"When I traveled with the Doctor, he was about an inch or so taller than I was, had dark brown hair that was shaggy, somewhat like mine, and looked older than either of them. Except he was younger."
no subject
Well, considering she's just met a teen who can change into any number of different animals, she can't really say how strange it might be to have the same man twice on the ship as two different people.
She listens carefully, though it's clear she doesn't quite get it. The second fellow he describes sounds familiar enough, and she frowns a little as she listens. "Wouldn't've happened to have had a..." With her hands, she's modeled about how big the screwdriver is. "Shiny, little light on the end? Screwdriver of sorts?"
That's about all she can give for it, though, except for the machine babble and friendly conversation. Both men were nice enough. She's just more than confused, especially when Jamie starts describing a third man--just how many are there!?
no subject
"At least, I think mine was younger. The Doctor - the tall one - said that it had been centuries for him, but ye never know with time travel..." He breaks off as Kaylee gestures. "Aye. That's called a sonic screwdriver. Mine used it as well, although it was a wee bit less fancy looking back then."
no subject
One thing catches her attention, though. She's wondered about it before, with the way Jamie interacts with Stacy and works around her, but this just confirms it-- "Time travel? You mean it? Real time travel?"
She nods. "Sonic screwdriver, that was it. Useful little thing, sounds like, or will be if he ever gets it fixed back right as rain.
no subject
The words, though, get his attention and he freezes. He's been trying very hard not to get into that too much, especially after realizing the TARDIS might be on Stacy somewhere. If it were anyone other than Jamie, he could have tried to dismiss it as being the result of being on Stacy. And while that does somewhat explain the fact that there are two Doctors on board, it's not the truth.
But it's Jamie. And Jamie trusts Kaylee enough at this point to tell her, although he does take a moment to make sure there's nobody that can overhear. When he does speak, it's much more quietly than normal.
"Aye. The ship I mentioned to ye, when I first met ye? The TARDIS? It can travel through time as well."
The Doctors can just go ahead and yell at him later if they want.
no subject
"It can!?"
At first, she's not sure she should believe him. Maybe this is another one of their teasing wars, starting up without her realizing, but given how sincere he looks, how pleased he is...
The mechanic opens her mouth to speak again, but nothing comes out. You've rendered her speechless, Mr. McCrimmon.
no subject
"Aye." He takes a deep breath, then says, "When I first met the Doctor, it was just after the battle of Culloden, which was on April 16th, 1746. And just before I was going to be sent back there by the Doctor's people, we were on his home planet." He gives her a date that is so far removed from that as to be impossible...unless you can travel through time.
Or are insane, but Jamie really doesn't think Kaylee would think that for a moment.
no subject
The problem is, it is Jamie telling her, and she knows that he's not crazy mostly.
So it really is time travel, all there is to it. Jamie's face, his eyes, tell her he's telling the complete truth, and there's nothing to do besides believe it. She's heard crazier things while on this boat, right?
"That...wow."
no subject
But as he's thinking about how he can convince her, he realizes - he knows Ten's sonic screwdriver wasn't working properly. And he knows that Kaylee, being Kaylee, was probably very happy to help take a look at it.
"Ye saw the sonic screwdriver, aye? Is there technology like that on the ship?"
no subject
"And yeah, I saw it," she replies, the excitement from before slowly growing back. "Interestin' little thing, ain't ever seen anythin' like it." She'd spent quite a while, sitting there on the Deck with the Doctor while he tried to fix it.
no subject
"Aye, well, that's small potatoes compared to the TARDIS. If we can find it, I'll show ye."
He means it. After all, he's quite sure that the Doctors are going to be interested in finding the TARDIS sooner rather than later, if it can be found. He also hasn't forgotten he's already promised her this once. Jamie fully intends on keeping that promise if at all possible.
no subject
There's only one major problem, and she rubs the back of her neck nervously.
"Would he--they--be alright with me seein' it?" By the sound of things, unless the Doctor(s) say(s) yes, Jamie's promise can go either way. With how Mal is with Serenity, all full of protective tendencies and judgments as to who all he'll allow on board, she's not sure the Doctor(s) would be much different than the overprotective Captain when it comes to the TARDIS. "You won't get in trouble none for it, will ya?"
no subject
"I don't know," he admits. "But it's not that I would get in trouble for asking. The worst they would do is say 'no', aye?"
no subject
no subject
Okay, granted, there were a few times where the Doctor's gotten exasperated at Jamie's questions, but that's never bothered Jamie for long.
"Look, if I can, I'll see if they'll let me bring ye along when we go to find the TARDIS. They wouldn't be able to say no to ye then."
Barring any odd complications, that is.
no subject
His second idea is pretty nice as well. "Know that cargo bay inside and out, if that'll be any incentive for takin' me along. Could help 'em find all the nooks and crannies they'd be wantin' to look into..."
How big was the TARDIS anyhow?
"I'd like to help, in any case. Even if I don't get a look at her."
no subject
He looks thoughtful, then. "Ye know, the Doctor did say to contact the people I've told about the TARDIS to help. So I would think that would mean ye get to come along, aye?"
no subject
"I guess I'd have to help, in that case. And since Stacy's so big, it'd be kinda silly for just the two--three--of ya to be tryin' to look through without a bit of help..."
She's just glowing at this point.
no subject
"Well, the Doctor said he and the Doctor..." He breaks off a for a moment and shakes his head. "Och, that's odd. Anyway, he said they would do some scouting first, so we may not have to go all over Stacy."
He knows perfectly well that's it's probably less in the way of actual scouting and more in the way of poking their nose into various areas of the ship. Still, there may be some actual scouting involved. You never know.
"But I'll still need ye. Will ye come?"
no subject
"Well, that'll help eliminate some places from the agenda to look. Make it easier to narrow down where she might be hidin' out in the cargo bay or wherever Stacy might've shoved her."
There's always the idea of just asking Stacy, but that'd take half the fun out of the search. In any case, it's hard to tell if Stacy would be of any help. Got bigger things to do, this ship.
Oh, well, when he puts it like that, Kaylee starts beaming even more. "For you, Jamie, I'd be more'n happy to."
no subject
Now that's settled, he flicks a glance back down to the sign, and all of a sudden remembers that there had been a plan in there somewhere. Something about distracting Kaylee, and...he's forgotten what it was, exactly.
He can still ask about the situation, though. "So why do ye have a sign up saying 'Free Hugs', anyway?"
no subject
Of course, if that makes him forget what he's doing, well, that's Jamie for you anyhow.
"Givin' 'em out, that's why," she replies proudly. "Figured the ship needed a bit more cheer, and what better way to hand it out than a hug, right?"
no subject
He realizes about three seconds too late that it's probably not the best plan to go and give Kaylee more ideas on how to spread cheer. Just because he doesn't mind it (and may very well actually like it, shh) doesn't mean the rest of the crew will too.
"Er. I mean, if ye are giving out hugs, then I think ye need to be given one of your own. For doing such a good job, aye?"
no subject
Watch out, Jamie, you're giving her ideas now, and she might just test them out on you.
"If that's you askin' for one, Jamie, I'd be more'n happy to give you one, or ten, or however many you might be wantin'."
