Itadakimasu~! [OPEN PARTY]

If the Mess Hall normally smelled like anything, it was the bland, flavorless glop that the crew was accustomed to eating. But if you were to pass by the room today, you might notice a different smell. A good smell - the smell of actual food.

Nanoha Takamachi and Miku Hinasaki have been hard at work cooking up a feast of authentic homemade Japanese cuisine, and the entire ship is invited. Have at it!

(ooc: Thread amongst yourselves; Nanoha and Miku will be tagging around and making sure everyone's having a good time, but it's a party!

There's pretty much every type of Japanese cuisine here that they thought non-Japanese would enjoy/be familiar with: Hand-rolled sushi, some gyoza potstickers, udon bowls, agedashi tofu, and a variety of other dishes. If you're familiar with it, they probably made some.)

"Ah," Miku looked thoughtful. "Well, you cover the tofu in cornstarch and fry it in oil, and then you put it in the bowl with some dashi and daikon and ginger. Oh! And little green onions."

She smiled. "Try a bite. Just one!"

Oh, it was deep fried... that didn't sound too bad. Of course, it was tofu, and that did. But he was a dutiful boygentlemanfriend and he wouldn't want to disappoint his ladyfriend in her cooking endeavors, so he experimentally poked at the agedashi until he chipped off a small corner of it, then picked it up and shoveled it in.

It was... crispy, but squishy. And blander than he thought. Weird, he'd always thought tofu was supposed to taste like intense nausea.

"It's not bad!" he announced, and grinned at her.

Miku grinned back. Now that Alessa had moved on to torture someone else with her presence talk to another person, she certainly felt lighter again. "I'll have you liking it yet."

She looked around and nodded at Fate before hurrying away from the kitchen and into the mess hall proper. Miku sat next to Steve and sighed. "All that hard work we put in has definitely proven to be worth it. Everyone looks so... full."

"Yeah, you guys really did a great job," Steve said, picking the agedashi into a few more pieces to make it look like he intended to eat it (and he might... later) before going for a piece of gyoza.

"It's been so long since anybody got to actually eat anything good, you know? And food makes just about everybody feel better."

"Well, I'm glad you like it, and get to taste it for real instead of in the sensoriums." Miku rested her head on Steve's shoulder. "The cooking made me tired, I'll sleep well tonight, I bet."

As usual, Steve was a bit warmer than she was. Miku sighed and brushed her cheek with her hand, dusting away the cornstarch. "I'm going to smell like agedashi and tempura until I wash," she grumbled good-naturedly.

He lowered his shoulder down for her to get more comfortable and smiled. "There's a lot worse things to smell like on this ship, I think. Besides, it's a nice smell."

It took him a few seconds for the dawning realization he'd just said Miku smelled nice (like fried food), and he turned appropriately red.

"I think you made everybody really happy, too."

"Eh..." Miku raised her eyebrows at him, unsure if she should be pleased by the compliment (if you could call it that) or insulted. Well, he seemed to be mentally punishing himself for it.

Or so she hoped.

"I wish there was more. If we stop at an Earth again," it was so weird to think in that sense, "I was going to go and help Nanoha-chan stock up on more proper foods. Then we'll be able to do this again." They would probably be few and far between. "I'll try to learn to cook American, and other things, too."

Don't worry, Miku. He hated himself enough for it for the both of them.

"I wanna cook real food for you sometime too," he said quickly, trying to change the subject. "I can make stuff that isn't covered with cheese, you know."

Miku turned her face away, and looked at him from the corner of her eye. She smiled a little, just this side of teasing. "Oh?"

"I don't believe you, you're definitely going to have to show me."

"Yeah, believe it or not, American food isn't all deep fried meat covered in cheddar," he teased back. "Well, maybe it is a little bit in Minnesota, but we do eat vegetables from time to time."

Pause. "Besides potatoes, I mean."

"What, really? I think you're lying." Wasn't the American national food the French fry?

She put her hands to her cheeks and sighed dramatically. "Ah, Steve-kun, it's not nice to lie!"
