The thing you should know is that everyone is in really big trouble. Yeah. Even you.

Ax had escaped the Controllers on board. Brainy had not been so lucky. Neither had Sam and Tim. And who knew how many others on board had Yeerks wrapped around their brains, controlling their every movement, pretending that everything was normal until the time came to strike.

Who do you trust, podlings?

"I've got that one. It's kinda freaky, so I haven't told a lot of people yet, and I haven't had any major visions lately until--until--"

Oh shit, there she goes crying again.

"Sorry. There was just...something happened and..."

Like Leela, Zuko had a desire to visit someplace holy, and while the Tree would have been his spot of choice, something about the cathedral seemed interesting today.

He thinks that, until he sees the crying girl, at which point he glances around awkwardly. Some girl he knows is crying. That's weird.

But there's a guy standing next to her, and Zuko, being one to jump to conclusions, leaps.

"What did you do to her?"

"He didn't do anything," Wednesday interrupts as he steps forward out of a shadow. Wait - he was watching that whole time?

Man, this old guy is creepy sometimes. Possibly in non-platonic ways.

"Yeah, I just wandered in here a couple of minutes ago. Been trying to do a psychic read on this place, but got nadda. Something about this ships throwing my senses out of whack. Either that or it's the fact that I haven't had any pineapples recently."

[identity profile] daaayum.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"It's okay," Leela sniffs, trying to get herself under control. "It wasn't him. Nathan, Lyta, and I were looking into that upside-downy place and there was some bad psychic stuff went down, and I'm just a little--"

She breaks off into tears again, and crouches down, holding her face in her hands.

"I'll be fine," she says weakly. "Just...just got some stuff rattling around in my head is all."

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Psychic stuff?"

Because if Leela's okay, then Zuko has reached the end of his making-crying-girls-better rope. He is not very good with the comforting.

Might as well focus on something else he doesn't know.

[identity profile] daaayum.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
"There's something there. And it made me see things."

Her eyes are blank as she looks up and says that, and she buries her face again.

"Seriously, though, I'll be fine."

Really. Despite all the crying and rocking slightly in place, she's aces. No problem. Just a little psychic torment.

[identity profile] ihasvision.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Okaay, that was weird..."

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Wednesday's face goes—a funny expression. "Yes, I don't think that's supposed to happen," he says after a moment.

[identity profile] daaayum.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Leela had taken advantage of the flickering to get riiiight behind Shawn. Which allowed her to kick his legs out from under him, yank his head sideways, and slip something into his ear with a canteen.

"Of course it's not supposed to happen. Just like you ignoring me wasn't supposed to happen. Jesus Christ in a Sunday dress, I went through that crying act to get one of y'all close for nothin'."

She drops Shawn to deal with his little problem by himself, and pulls out her scythe and chain.

[identity profile] ihasvision.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Shawn felt the Yeerk begin to worm it's way into his ear. And he screamed. Like a little girl.

Second later he began to laugh. "You have gotta be kidding me. Y'know that psychic thing that guy has been doing? It's a lie. He's been faking it this entire time."

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wednesday is seemingly undisturbed, though that scimitar he persistently carries now flashes out from his belt, and his good eye squints a little. "Sorry, girl, but I've never been much of a man for comfort," he says, quirking his mouth.

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Shnk! The swords are out.

"What was that?" re: the lights. "What is that?" re: the slug. "What are you?" Re: Leela.

"Whatever you did to him, let him go now."

[identity profile] ihasvision.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope, don't think I will, thanks."

[identity profile] daaayum.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Shame. He was more valuable as a psychic. Ah well."

Leela reaches into her bag and tosses Shawn a Dracon beam.

"You take ol' scarface. Watch the flames. I, on the other hand--"

She attacks Wednesday by flinging her chain, trying to tangle up his scimitar.

[identity profile] ihasvision.livejournal.com 2009-02-21 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll tell you one thing kid, he wasn't lying about being able to use a gun. He can use one. Quite well in fact. Seeya." Shawn fired...and the blast missed by millimeters.

"Run...now" Shawn grunted, having retaken control for the briefest of moments.

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wednesday lets the sword get tangled—and then yanks, trying to pull Leela off her feet. (He's stronger than he looks!)

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2009-02-22 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Run? Zuko? Jeeze, Shawn, who do you think you're talking to? The Earth King?

The swords go away and Zuko lunges at Shawn, fast in the way that only a person who's been training to kill people since they were able to stand are, reaching for the hand with the weapon. Zuko hasn't faced too many of those yet, but he's disarmed enough people with weapons to know how to stay out of their way.

[identity profile] daaayum.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"You think you can outsmart me, old man?"

She moves as if she's...expecting that, and in fact uses it for momentum to slide into a sweep-kick at his feet.

"I see what she sees."

[identity profile] anoldtrickster.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
"And what's that?" Wednesday says sharply, smoothly hopping over the incoming kick as he launches a foot towards Leela's gut—

—and stops halfway, using the movement to pivot and pull the chain in the opposite direction.

[identity profile] ihasvision.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
The Yeerk retakes control, and Shawn's body moves out of the way, and he attempts to pistol whip the back of Zuko's skull.

"You should've listened to him. There's a reason he's been able to fake being psychic for so long in his world. He's observant. So much so in fact he can read every movement you're gonna make before you make it."

[identity profile] found-myway.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Before the hand holding the gun connects with teh back of his skull, Zuko slips out of the way. He has the advantage of speed - Shawn may know what he's going to do before he does it, but whether or not the Yeerk can make his body move faster than Zuko's is still up for debate.

It was dishonorable to use firebending against a non-bender. It was an unfair advantage, and one that a true master of firebending should not need to use. The art was martial as well as elemental for many reasons, including the fact that most Fire Nation soldiers were not benders, but still had the right to honorable combat.

But then again, there wasn't a whole lot that was honorable about stealing control of another person's body and using it to attack their shipmates.

While Shawn's arm was still completing the arc that had missed his skull, Zuko clenched his fist and, with a deep exhalation, launched a fireball directly at the false psychic. He had very little time to take advantage of the visual cover that the move offered him, so he swept his leg out to knock Shawn off his feet inches behind the roiling flames.

[identity profile] ihasvision.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Zuko wouldn't have any problem with knocking Shawn over. Mostly because Shawn had absolutely no experience with firebenders, and thus, in addition to getting his eyebrows singes, was blinded.
