Meet and Greet Part Deux: The Socialing
The new people will find themselves ushered out of Obs Deck, so it can be shot down to the planet again, to pick the crew up. Eventually, the crew members on the mission are brought back up, and the doors open to let the two groups meet.
The newbies are likely not expecting their new crew-mates to come back bearing presents--which some of them are.
[ooc: This time anyone can post in. REMEMBER TO TAG OTHER PEOPLE, THO. This is set after the mission so mission peoples can meet the newbies. Latecomer newbies, if you want, you can just tag your guys into this one to make things easier.]

"Um. Anyway," he says, sort of picking up where he left off. "I don't think it's the same girl, although she sounds new as well. I'm no familiar with accents from the Colonies...er. I mean the Amer...that U.S. place ye mentioned."
no subject
"'She sounds new'? Well, if people are new to you, you must have been around here for a while. Or at least before the people I saw coming out of pods when I first woke up. How long have people been on this ship-thingymajig?" It would be good to have reference, and see how long he'd be around. Though, considering he couldn't feel his normal connection to the Guardians, he'd be unable to time travel. Which meant he'd be stuck for a while.
...Wait a minute, what was that last bit? "Colonies? Who the heck still calls them the Colonies anymore?" It was starting to dawn on Rei - that Invisible guy he'd met when he woke up seemed to be from the future, post 24th Century if he was a human in a different galaxy. So, maybe there were people from the past, too. "Eh, senhor McCrimmon," he said, trying to be polite about this, "what year where you born, if you don't mind my asking?"
no subject
As for how long people have been here? He thought someone might have said something about it...but, unfortunately, he can't remember. He shrugs. "Time's...a wee bit strange, here. I know there's people who have been here longer than I have, and I know I've been to five or so of these greeting things since I arrived. One of the older crew members or command staff might be able to give ye a better idea."
Jamie is suddenly very interested in his feet. He really has to stop using the word 'Colonies'. It tends to give things away. "I'd rather not say," he starts, then reconsiders somewhat. "Have ye heard of Culloden?"
no subject
He was starting to ramble, and he knew it. This wasn't the kind of thing he needed to be telling strangers, but he was separated from the Guardians, and that made him nervous. And when he got nervous, he got wordy.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm down a bit. "Culloden, Culloden, Culloden," he said the word a few times, letting it roll around in his head. He had to really think about it - after all, he'd been traveling space and time for almost ten years, and, even if he could only remember four of them, there was a lot of history stored in his brain. "Culloden, no, don't think... wait, no, it's familiar. Hmmm... oh, yeah, it's a town in Scotland, right? Didn't some sort of battle take place there? I think... I think Puck took me to some sort of memorial there when we were visiting the 1990s. I don't really remember that much from the trip, but I guess that's what I got for having my Great Britain tour guide be an Irishman from the 24th century."
Rei really wasn't sure if any of that would make sense to Jaime. His talk of time travel tended to confuse people. And usually got him written off as crazy.
no subject
It lightens, though, as he can tell that Rei is rambling, and he doesn't want to make the man any more nervous than he already seems to be. "There's stranger here on Stacy, so I woulda worry about it."
At least he knows a little about Culloden, which is more than most people have when Jamie mentioned it. He looks a little strange when Rei mentions the memorial, but it's not because of the time travel. "They...still remember? That far from the battle?"
There's a wellspring of emotion that threatens to come out from hearing that, and it's a visible effort to stuff it back down. He clears his throat. "And aye, it was in 1746. I was about 17 or so at the time." He looks maybe around 20 now.
There's a thoughtful look he gives Rei after that as he mentally goes through the dates that were mentioned. "So did ye actually meet Charlemagne when ye were time traveling?"
no subject
Rei could tell Jaime was trying to hide some emotions. He did that enough to recognize it. But he wouldn't push anything. There was enough information there for Rei to infer that the man had actually seen the battle. And battles were never a pretty thing.
"Well, yeah, battles tend to get remembered, or at least important ones, I guess," Rei tried to be gentle saying that. Best not to accidentally push any buttons. "Heh, though, some get remembered in weird ways. Like, Battle of Marathon is remembered with a foot race, what's up with that?" He couldn't help but grin. Oh, he knew the reason, but it was still pretty weird to him.
"Mmm, nah, haven't gotten to meet him. It'd be hard to communicate with him, really. I don't know Latin or Frankish or whatever he spoke. Though, my friend is fluent in Latin, maybe she could help me out..." he paused for a moment, taking a good look at Jaime. "...You know, you're taking all of my talk about time travel really well."
no subject
However, he does comment off-handedly, "It's a lot easier to talk to people when ye travel in something that translates in your head for ye."
Rei gets a considering sort of look as Jamie weighs how much more he wants to say in regards to the subject. Finally, he does add, "And I may have a wee idea what you're talking about."
no subject
He was starting to get really curious about the Scotsman. He narrowed his eyes, and adopted a rather serious tone that he didn't use often. "What kind of idea?"
no subject
He frowns at the tone, and straightens up a little from his slump. Serious tones never bode well. He looks around cautiously to make sure no-one can overhead, then lowers his voice and says, "About time travel. I know it can be done."
Which, really, someone from the 18th century should not know about.
no subject
"Who told you?" Rei said sternly, narrowing his eyes. He practically hissed it. "You're not a Guardian - there are no changes on you. So one of us had to tell you. Who told you about time travel?"
no subject
There's a visible tensing of his body, then, and he shifts forward in his seat as he fixes Rei with a similarly narrow-eyed look. "I don't think I care much for your tone. What business is it of yours if I know about time travel?"
no subject
"I'm... sorry. That was rude of me. I try not to make a habit of making an ass of myself, but it happens sometimes." He quickly debated whether or not to tell Jaime anymore then that, but he was severed from his powers, so what difference would it make? Besides, an explanation would be polite. "See, my job, literally, is to keep time going smoothly, because I'm not a part of any timeline. I'm what's called a Guardian of Time. There are only six of us at the most at any given moment. And normal, mortal humans aren't supposed to know about us. Or time travel in general, outside of fiction."
no subject
"Most people don't know about time travel where I'm from, either," he admits. "At best, people would have thought ye to be mad. More people believe in it here, but there's not too many of us that actually have." He's lowered his voice a little without realizing it. "Traveled in time, that is, not just taken from different times and places in different universes."
