Meet and Greet Part Deux: The Socialing

The new people will find themselves ushered out of Obs Deck, so it can be shot down to the planet again, to pick the crew up. Eventually, the crew members on the mission are brought back up, and the doors open to let the two groups meet.

The newbies are likely not expecting their new crew-mates to come back bearing presents--which some of them are.

[ooc: This time anyone can post in. REMEMBER TO TAG OTHER PEOPLE, THO. This is set after the mission so mission peoples can meet the newbies. Latecomer newbies, if you want, you can just tag your guys into this one to make things easier.]

"Eh, it certainly could've been worse. Kwanzaa is a pretty low-key holiday; Especially when you're only there for a little bit of it."

Static smiled. "How the heck you been, m'man? I haven't seen you in... well, it's been a while. Oh, I got something for ya." He dug into the sack and came out with a small square box, only about five inches across and an inch deep, wrapped in silver paper.

"I may have been on the Kwanzaa team, but back on Earth, my family celebrated both that and Christmas. So, I got you a Christmas present. I can't promise anything about quality, but..." He shrugged and held the box out. They were just ornamental shuriken, but it was supposed to be the thought that counted, right? And it still beat the fuzzy dice he'd gotten for Slobo...

"Oh - for me?" Sheik asked with a surprised smile, taking the box and carefully removing the paper. "Thank you," he added, smiling more properly at the gift. "I'm sorry, I did not get anything for you."

Actually, he only got gifts for two people. Not his fault he's introverted?

"Psh, no big, man. It's not like I told anyone on the team 'hey, I'm going tog et you something'. Not about getting stuff back; I just like giving things out. Boosts team morale."

What? It made sense in his head.
redeyes_andblue: (S - small smile: you're not too bad)

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-09 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
"That makes sense," Sheik said with a faint smile. "Thank you, all the same."

Aaand shuriken gone. Where did they go? He wasn't saying.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"No prob, man. So, how was your trip? Mine was Kwanzaa-tastic."

...where did the shuriken go? This was going to bother him for weeks...
redeyes_andblue: (S - small smile: well then)

"...A learning experience," Sheik ventures after a moment. (Hey, he had had to work with Slobo, the incredible exploding teammate.) "But interesting - we were doing a holiday called... Chanukah, I think. The fried potato cakes were good."

And as for that... magic, Static. Magic.

"Ah, the festival of lights. Good stuff, that one. But, I may be biased; some of my best friends back home were Jewish. The latkas were always my favorite part as well."

Seriously, not knowing was gonna keep him up nights.
redeyes_andblue: (S - small smile: well then)

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-12 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I confess," he says thoughtfully, "I do quite miss Hyrule's festivals - it seems that many cultures have festivals around the time of the solstices and equinoxes. And the winter festival was always a good one."

Yeah, he may have to keep wondering for a bit.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2010-01-14 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it weird... seems like the longest day and the shortest day of the year are universal- well, multiversal holidays. Actually, that's really not that weird, they aren't exactly arbitrary days, there's an actual physical event that goes with 'em both... not like Arbor day. Whoever created arbor day should burn in lumberjack hell." He paused for a second to calm down. Apparently, Static had very strong feelings about trees. Who knew?

"Y'know, you've never really talked about Hyrule that much. Please, elaborate."
redeyes_andblue: (S - confused: I have no idea)

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-14 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hyrule?" he repeats with a thoughtful frown. "Well, there is not much to say. It has mountains and forests, a lake, is bordered by a desert on one side, it's very green, the castle and Castle Town is in the north. What's Arbor Day?"

Sorry, Static, Sheik's attention is somewhat caught by his rant.

"A really stupid holiday that celebrates trees. I mean, trees are important, but how good of an idea is it, really, to give out pine tree sprouts to inner city kids? They've got no place to plant 'em. It'd be smarter to just plant the trees in their names."
redeyes_andblue: (S - confused: I have no idea)

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-16 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." If the city is anything like the Chicago that Roxie showed them, then yes, probably difficult to plant trees anywhere. "It sounds like the Kokiri - celebrating trees. Only they live in the forest, so it's somewhat unnecessary to plant more, I suppse..."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it makes sense for them. One a global scale it makes sense for us, but on a local level.. just stupid."
redeyes_andblue: (S - small smile: well then)

[personal profile] redeyes_andblue 2010-01-16 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quite possibly," he says with a faint smile. "Ah, well - no one ever said holidays have to make sense."
