Meet and Greet Part Deux: The Socialing

The new people will find themselves ushered out of Obs Deck, so it can be shot down to the planet again, to pick the crew up. Eventually, the crew members on the mission are brought back up, and the doors open to let the two groups meet.

The newbies are likely not expecting their new crew-mates to come back bearing presents--which some of them are.

[ooc: This time anyone can post in. REMEMBER TO TAG OTHER PEOPLE, THO. This is set after the mission so mission peoples can meet the newbies. Latecomer newbies, if you want, you can just tag your guys into this one to make things easier.]

"Well, I suppose telling you a few things about myself if only fair." She smiled as she walked with him.

"Where I'm from I'm a Registered Companion. I enjoy archery and am rather good at it, if I do say so myself. I'm competent piloting a shuttle... And I'm a Buddhist."

She arches an eyebrow as she peers over at him. "I know those are just surface details, but perhaps you'd like to hear more about one of the things I told you?"

There was one thing that struck him as curious.

"If you wouldn't mind explaining, what exactly is a 'Registered Companion'?" Not that he didn't have his own guesses, he just wanted to be sure.

"Of course I don't mind," Inara smiled. "Do you know what a Geisha is? Or perhaps a Courtesan? A Companion is a mixture of them. And a Registered Companion is licensed with the Guild and in doing so is considered legal."

"Ah, yes, I'm familiar with those terms." And he was familiar enough not to confuse them with that of a common hooker.

"That's certainly an interesting occupational choice."

"Perhaps, but it is a highly respectful one in the 'Verse," Inara begins to explain with a soft smile. "You see, prostitution as it had existed on Earth-That-Was was abolished long long ago and was replaced by a government approved profession which became known as Companion. Companions hold a lot of power in the 'Verse."

She shrugged a shoulder slightly. "I began my training when I was barely twelve. I had a well-rounded education and years of physical discipline, religious study, and the arts. I was taught dance, martial arts, calligraphy, how to play musical instruments, and singing, plus a few other subjects."

Now that was interesting. And certainly spoke to what kind of class of escort she truly was. "A woman with many talents. I can see why your profession is so highly respected."

"Well thank you, that is most kind of you to say." Now only if she could get Mal to think the same way, then she wouldn't have to listen to him calling her a whore all the time.

"Hopefully some of my talents will be useful here."

"I'm sure you'll be able to put your talents to good use." He certainly knew he could use them. Though probably not quite in the way one would think.

"But don't be surprised if some of the crew become a little... fixated on one aspect of your career. There are lots of rigid morally upstanding types here." Superheroes and the like.

Her services weren't limited to merely one thing - she did provide other things as well.

"Oh, well it wouldn't be the first time I've had to deal with someone becoming fixated on what I do." She smirked slightly. "I can handle them. But thank you for your warning all the same."

"We'll see." He was interested in seeing how some of the more morally and religiously self-righteous reacted to her, and how she dealt with them.

Sifting around the some of the crates, lex finally found the one he was looking for. Opening it up, he presented it to Inara. "This is the one that contained some of the finer things I picked up. Looks like the crew hasn't gotten their hands on it yet, so first picks are yours."
