Meet and Greet Part Deux: The Socialing

The new people will find themselves ushered out of Obs Deck, so it can be shot down to the planet again, to pick the crew up. Eventually, the crew members on the mission are brought back up, and the doors open to let the two groups meet.

The newbies are likely not expecting their new crew-mates to come back bearing presents--which some of them are.

[ooc: This time anyone can post in. REMEMBER TO TAG OTHER PEOPLE, THO. This is set after the mission so mission peoples can meet the newbies. Latecomer newbies, if you want, you can just tag your guys into this one to make things easier.]

Well, it'd be impossible for Luke to miss that color, and that jumpsuit--he was more than somewhat familiar with them, after all. So when he saw the blindingly bright flash through the crowd of people, he paused, looked again. A huge grin broke out on his face when he realized just who it was.

"Wedge!" he called across the heads of the assembled crew. "You're here!" Breaking into a jog, he went to go clasp hands with his old friend and wingmate. "Boy, am I sure glad to see you!"

Wedge turned towards the voice and a grin equal parts relief and joy at being reunited with his old friend spread across his face. He pushed past a few people to meet Luke, grabbing his hand and shaking firmly.

"Luke! You have no idea how good it is to see you! I thought I was here all on my own!" He couldn't keep that dumb grin off his face.

"It's good to see you!"

"No, there are a few of us here," Luke said, blue eyes sparkling to see a familiar face. "Mostly Jedi--Mara Jade, Obi-Wan Kenobi... but it's good that you're here, Wedge, I have a feeling we'll need pilots like you at some point. How long have you been here?"

He tried to figure how long he'd been on the mission, and shook his head. Hard to tell. "We've been planetside for a while, we just got back."

[identity profile] yubyubcommander.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Mara's here too? That's great. I could actually use your help. Both of you. I've got something in the works." He grinned, crossing his arms. having someone here that he actually knew already made the situation seem a bit brighter.

"I just got...uh...popped, they called it, a couple days ago."

"Yeah, she's here," and Luke couldn't help the soft note of affection that crept into his voice when he spoke of her. As ever, he was so glad she was here--alive--with them. That reminded him to ask when Wedge was from... but it could wait, and in the end, it wasn't important. Wedge was still Wedge.

"Something in the works?" Luke asked, and gestured at one of the squishy chairs in the observation deck.

Wedge eyed the chairs dubiously, but took a seat, sinking into one with nod.

"I'm going to build a Rogue Squadron to fight the Ohm. There are about two dozen x-wings down in the vehicle hange...But I need an XO. Or...well, you used to be in charge back in the old days, so if you wanted to run the show, I wouldn't object. But I could really use a couple of experienced pilots like you and Mara, no matter what happens."

Luke sat back (the seat squished around to accommodate him), rubbing his chin thoughtfully. The idea of a squadron to use in space battle was an excellent one, and if he'd known the X-Wings were down there he'd have probably suggested something similar. As it was, he'd have to go to the hangar, see if perhaps the Shadow or even the Falcon was there. Either ship would be dead useful in a pitched battle.

"I think you'd better take command, Wedge," he said at last. "It's your idea, and you're a great leader."

Wedge nodded and slapped Luke on the shoulder.

"In that case, I'd be honored if you took the position of Executive Officer. Kriff, I'll even make you a Commander in Starfighter Command again. I can do that now, being a general and all." He laughed, nudging the other with an elbow.

"What do you say?"

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Sounds good to me, General," Luke grinned. It was good to have this kind of camaraderie, the easy banter of two veterans. "I'll be happy to fly on your wing."

[identity profile] yubyubcommander.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Welcome back to Starfighter Command, Commander." Wedge grinned and shook Luke's hand firmly. "I'm glad to have you. You'll be Rogue Two until we can get more pilots. Once we have enough, I want you to take over the second flight and be Rogue Five." He leaned back in his chair. Things were looking up, at least a little bit.

"Then it'll really just be like old times." Luke stretched a bit--Stacy's warm interior was starting to thaw him out, and he decided if they encountered any more places as cold, he'd think long and hard. A desert rat, as Arha had called him upon his arrival here, didn't belong in an igloo, and there was still enough Tatooine in his blood.
