Podpop-ery

[ooc: Newbie Helpers List | Instructions: Post your character with one post establishing them as being podpopped. Tag each other in groups of 2's, 3's, and 4's, to get some interaction to start with. If a thread doesn't already have 2 or 3 people tagged in, tag it with your character's podpop popping near the other people, rather than making a new subthread. If you would like to play out them talking to the AI, please send an email to the mods making the request--we do this only by request. Then move onto the big Newbie Meeting. Once your character has gotten the rundown from the old crew, you may start posting entrance posts and freely tagging.]

||Pod Release Protocols Initating|| Stacy's familiar voice sounds out to all the podmates through the ship.

In the Pod Caverns, there are the sounds of: Pop. Pop pop pop. Poppuhpoppoppop. KASCHUNKhiiiiiiiissssss.

There is condensation and mist spraying out from cracks in the pods, as the people inside slide out onto the floors, covered in slime.

--

There was nothing. You were going about your normal life, then there was a bright light, and then? Nothing.

Then the world lurches.

The chamber here is humid.

Actually, "chamber" isn't quite accurate. You're in a cavern, half-lit by an eerie greenish light, going on and on as far as the eye can see. The light is coming from what can only be described as pods, glistening, round greenish-yellow things, glowing with a pale inner light, outlining human -- and not quite human -- forms. Each is rooted to the floor, to the walls, with something black, twisted, and unidentifiable.

They line the walls of the cavern, go up in maddeningly high columns, curling and corkscrewing up into the darkness, until the light from them is like that of the stars, glowing pale and mournful in clusters in the darkness above. Twisted walkways and stairs crisscross, traverse the platforms in front of the pods, wending their way back and forth, up and down through the chamber.

You just came from one of those pods, broke free like a butterfly from a (slimy, nasty) chrysalis.

Now you stand alone but not quite alone, naked, not knowing how you got there, who took you, or why you were taken.

As your body heats up again, you realize the air is warm -- just a few degrees too warm to be comfortable -- and muggy; it smells acrid and organic, like freshly spilt blood and sweat. Your mouth tastes of salt.

The floors are pulsing under your feet, throbbing...

Wherever you are, this entire place...is alive.

Oh, and also you're naked and covered in alien snot.

When you call out, ask where you are, a voice speaks to you, in your head. She tells you:

||You are here.||

When you ask who she is, she tells you that her name is STA'C K'LTRRB'TXFT, but that you may call her Stacy. When she tells you who she is, there is a gush of emotion, love, maternal warmth. You are on a ship. She is that ship. Her name is Stacy and she loves you. Her voice is warm and motherly, even if these messages sound almost automated.

Glowing phosphorescenet lights appear in pustules along the floor. They lead you up a massive spiraling walkway that gives you a view of what are possibly millions in stasis. At the top is a room with moving vines that clean you and clothe you in a plant-like body-suit--soft, but durable. After that, the lights lead you to a great cavernous room with a clear floor that lets you see all the holes and tunnels in the walls of it. When you reach the center, the last thing she tells you before whisking you away to gather your belongings and meet the rest of the crew is this reassuring thought:

||You have been Chosen to accomplish a Great Purpose. You have been Chosen to help fight the Ohm, a race of insectoid beings that are the destroyers of worlds.||

||You have been Chosen as champions of life, as protectors of the worlds and peoples that are left. The others are waiting for you. They will explain everything.||

She will tell you nothing more. Your answers lie with these "others" she speaks of.

Naked in...Space?

Title: Naked in...Space?
Location: Stacy; the Pod Chamber

He was...dirty.

Renne did not like being dirty, no, and he knew his own sweat wasn't enough this time. Still, the thought that came to him next was one that caused the critter's skin to flare up in bright red anger.
The Humans of before.
Liars.. Do not think of them. Not worth it.
Five-inch ears twitched madly and while the disproportionately big eyes saw nothing of things around him, the creature...knew something. It itched, stung a little, like a telepath trying to get into a head that simply wasn't telepath-compatible. Psi-dead, very psi-dead. Then, however, his
ears heard it.

And all he could do was chirp.

"Wha-t in He-ll?"

Renne still has not a clue. However, given the options available to him, the creature Tarzan-crawls carefully along the floor. Running into things is common with him and his bumblings probably don't lend to anything resembling stealth or grace. The 'shower', when he gets there, feels completely strange. But he's not complaining. His pants still cling half-fused to his skin; his pocket has everything in it and remains sealed tight.
His treasures are safe.
And that..."shower"....feels kind of good, if on the cold side. When presented with the strange suit, the beastie curiously wriggle-squirms himself into it, praying it can withstand and hold in the intense heat needed to survive.

Finally, when he looks probably like a tremendously comical superhero/alien spoof, the oddity bumbles, bumps and tumbles his way to find these "others".

"Yep desu!" exclaimed Rein with a little grin. "Oh, you're a mage! You know of me and Hayate?"

The little mage blushed and smiled at Kala. "I'm new here too, and what little I know could help?"

Sam looked at the ground. Or, more importantly, at the lights. "I guess we follow these until we get where we're going." After a moment, he added, "My brother better be here, too." He wasn't going into what might happen if he wasn't.

And, frankly, Sam was so over the Chosen thing it wasn't even funny.

The fur rose all down Rhiow's spine as she slid out onto the floor in a ball of sticky fur. Naked was not a huge issue for Rhiow, but slime - slime was not pleasing at all. "Oh, Queen Iau what is this awful gunk-"

Or at least that's what she started to say, until she realized that the stuff tasted as foul as it smelled and felt. Rhiow's ears flattened and she sat herself down on the floor for a very difficult bout of grooming. "Yick!" She scraped her tongue off on the bottom of her pawpad and resumed her grooming, making faces like she was going to vomit.

This is the worst errantry ever. Worse than Downside. At least I could make the lizards explode.

The expression that crossed Gwen's face read more of 'right. the good guys' than anything. Only word she had ever associated with the Alliance had been trouble then later on the War. When the older man had spoken his feelings about them not being there, her expression fell.

"Wouldn't surprise me. Weren't many of us left after all.." Carefully biting down on her bottom lip the red head offered Wedge a well versed forced smile that came all to easy to her. "Not gonna hold my breath."

[identity profile] callmeotterpop.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"More of a math and accounting guy myself. But my best friend was a huge brain, so I got some really nasty lectures about all sorts of things. Some of which I actually remember." He laughed a bit and grasped the hand. "Bobby Drake. And no, well not anymore. We're an endangered species. Only about a hundred of us left in the whole world."

"Damn right it could still happen," Dustin snarled, heaving himself to his feet with a few jerky, pained movements, "So what are you still standing around here for? Find a way out! Find our stuff, at least!"

'Kidnapped' sounded like the best thing to describe this situation as. Therefore, Dustin would treat it as such.

[identity profile] chozo-precursor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Gray Voice slowly racked his memories. The last thing he remembered was fighting... ...he instinctively put a hand to his chest -- the pain wasn't there anymore. That meant wherever he was, it had been a good space of time since he'd been on Zebes.

"...." He shook his head. "I don't know." He said. "This is unfamiliar to me as well." He considered for a moment. "However, the only way to find an answer is to look for one."

Kazami lets go of the tentacle and hops away, immediately turning away from Kala to protect her modesty. He coughs, blushing a bit, and looks up to stare at the tentacles on the ceiling, in case they start moving again. "Agreed."

He risks a glance over his shoulder. "My name is Kazami Shiro." He looks away again. "I don't think they intend for us to stay like this for long. Not if we're supposed to properly face a threat."

[identity profile] yubyubcommander.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wedge shrugged, not really enjoying the look she gave him.

"It's not like we were Imps or something..." He trailed off as they moved down the rows of pods, looking for an exit. "Yeah. I wish some of my guys were here. Someone that looked familiar, at least."

[identity profile] watchwith3hands.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Rei glanced around and, for a moment, he could swear he saw a young man briefly disappear. He blinked, and the young man was back. He shrugged it off as just his eyes playing tricks on him. They liked to do that.

"Um, hello," he called out, "do you speak English?" He accompanied this with the equivalent of the phrase in American Sign Language.

Rhiow was still not clean to her satisfaction, not at all, there was gunk clinging to her fur in places that she didn't want to even imagine.

But the people all around her looked as lost and confused as she did, looking around, bewildered, trying to get their bearings. The avian creature next to her had the look of a mantling hawk, and that made Rhiow nervous.

But if wizardry had taught her one thing, it had taught her that appearances were deceiving. Rhiow straightened herself, even though her tail was puffed up to bottlebrush proportions. "Greetings," she said - in the Speech, just to be sure.

That got a raised eyebrow from Sam as he stood as well. And just as Dustin shouts to find a way out, the lights on the floor come up. Sam looks down, then back up. "I guess that might well be a clue."

[identity profile] youngsoldat.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mathematics? Ah, I was decent at that sort of thing - my father said I needed some of that - but I always loved reading literature," Erwin replied, giving Bobby's hand a firm, respectful shake, as he'd been taught. His expression sobered. Despite the near-impossibility of the story, he could sympathize still, "I am sorry to hear that."

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Rein rubbed her head as she floated into the air. "I don't know too much about Grognak... what is it?"

"And yes, magical powers. Watch!" Rein turned and aimed at the air. Magic pooled and she snapped her fingers, icicle blades forming out of the air. "See? This is my ice magic desu. I use it in many ways but I need my book... MY BOOK DESU! I NEED MY BOOK DESU!!!!!"

[identity profile] browncoatdevil.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it was going to be to much fun teasing him about it. Gwen had already made up her mind that she.. sorta liked the guy. He seemed nice enough, for an Alliance man that was, even if their view on the word was slightly opposite of the other. Keeping stride with him as they walked in search of an exit, the red head nodded her head once. "Course.. I don't know if I'd rather have a sudden kidnappin' over the Valley or th' other way 'round right now."

"Ain't no such things as aliens were I come from. This?" waving her hand a round a little taking in the cavern of pods, "This sorta tends t' change my mind."

[identity profile] magetrouble.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was going on a training mission with Audis Valia and then. And then well, nothing except goop and tentacles. I'm...this is just all crap. A big pile of massive gaft-crap. What are the...tentacles going to do?" There was relief in her face, despite the fact that she was still markedly pissed off about the whole swoop and snag procedure. And the lack of clothes.

...and the lack of everything.

She tried to frown, but it ended up looking like a smooshed sort of squishy smile.

"I know of both of you, which is...well, it's good. I almost got selected to be examined by you, but had to skip that exam because Tanji decided to slam me through a wall during practice. Out of the blue. He got yelled at, but it was my own gafting fault anyway for not watching out. I...don't like tentacles. At all. I suppose there are worse things out there than these." She flicked at the tentacle which was carefully approaching once more.

She didn't like being new all over again either, but at least she wasn't alone. Some of the steadiness was coming back to her and her eyes darted as another tentacle approached.

[identity profile] voiceofserenity.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It was decided, then. Kaylee gave Fletcher a gentle push toward the path, and began the long walk up to wherever it was this Stacy wanted them to go.

They would be alright, at the end of it, she hoped. No, she knew. If she didn't know, then anything could happen, and she really couldn't bear the thought of getting there to find out she'd just lied to some kid she'd just met who had been terrified enough to put temporary faith in her.

No pressure at all.

[identity profile] pocketloli.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm," Hmmed Rein. "Oh yes, I remember that. I was rather dissappointed when I had to exchange your exam date. And yes, I just popped a few minutes ago so I have little knowledge of what's going on too desu."

Looking at the tentacles, smaller ones were snaking out to her. "Oh there we go. I think my outfit's ready now!" Casting a reassuring smile at Kala, she said, "They tried to fit me into this really large outfit but it needed to make a smaller one for me. Don't worry; they're not going to molest you desu."

[identity profile] yubyubcommander.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That made things different. And certainly solidified the idea that she was either from some backwater that had very little contact with the galaxy at large or was simply from somewhere beyond his experience. Still, she seemed like a nice enough young woman, one he wouldn't mind having flying for him if she had the inclination.

"I work with all sorts of non-humans on a daily basis. So I'm guessing we may not be from exactly the same...uh...place." That sounded so strange when he actually said it. "But at the same time, I've never seen anything quite like this."

[identity profile] chozo-precursor.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Gray Voice spun (stumbling somewhat in the process), looking around for the source of the voice. Eventually, his eyes fell down and he saw...a cat.

"...greetings." He muttered, staring at the cat inquisitively.

This was disgusting. Naked, covered in some substance he wasn't sure he wanted to identify, Shinzon got to his feet. He was unsteady, uncertain - and alive.

His hands moved across his torso, sliding through gook in search of the entrance wound that had to be there. But his skin was whole, marred by old scars - there was a distinct lack of a pole though his upper body, and that made less sense than where he was now.

He was supposed to be dead.

Following the lights as they appeared, Shinzon looked down at the pods, unbroken and whole. The view offered no answers, and neither did the vines, which refused to be swatted away. Being clothed and clean was well enough, but Shinzon needed more an those feelings of - love or - no matter.

He'd been trained to resist telepathy, but allowed Stacy's (what kind of name was that?) words in with a frown. A great purpose indeed.

He must be mad. There was no other answer.
governorkang: (The hell is going on / Fucking hangover)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-01-01 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Kang nodded, holding back a short growl. He'd been serious when he'd said someone was likely to get killed. He started to follow the lights, "Now I'm curious. Where are you from, that dragons are thought to not exist?"

[identity profile] smartnass.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Correction: Most of the young man was back. He appeared to be wearing see-through boxer briefs. The effect is somewhat disconcerting, as though his torso was floating and you could stick your hand through him.

He'd prefer you didn't try that.

"Never needed to." said Lyle. He could pick up languages fairly well, but who spoke English anymore? In any case, it's the last thing on his mind. "Are you all right? It's better if we move."

His tone is a bit quick. He didn't want to be where he was expected to be.

[identity profile] magetrouble.livejournal.com 2010-01-01 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"...good point," Kala said, resting the point of her chin on her knees. The tentacles (more than one) hovered slightly, their motion slower. "I'm Kala Fierro, Time-Space Administration Bureau mage, currently Rank B." She swallowed hard as tendrils of her thick white hair fell forward like a damp curtain around her.

"Sorry, y'know, for yelling," she added, coloring a little herself. "And I suppose maybe this place might give us clothes."
