I have to admit, it's getting better

Asuka felt ecstatic. She'd gone down to the hangar in the dim hope that she might be able to find her Eva. It had taken her a while, of drifting through the multitude of vehicles, hoping to catch a glance of a familiar shade of red. And she had. When she'd seen it, she'd let out a whoop of joy and pushed off of the wall, shooting up to it's shoulder (the zero-g had taken her a while to get used to, though).

It was locked in place, staring out over the hangar. She settled on the shoulder with a grin, legs dangling as she leaned against it's neck. For some reason, it's presence just made her feel better. Safer. Like she could handle everything that was being tossed at her. She almost wanted to crawl inside it just now, but her plugsuits were stashed back in her new (admittedly spartan) room.Besides, now she was invincible. She had her Eva. When she was in it, nothing could stop her.

Nothing at all.

Luly claims a spot next to her easily—her grace suggests long practice or early exposure with zero-G.

"The design is similar enough that I'd almost think it was an Engel model, if it wasn't so... big."

"They're the largest mech class," Luly says with a little nod. "Mine is a Malach. Heavy-weapons type... but Colopatiron's only about a third the size of this."

She does sound quite genuinely impressed.

"It is. It would be more interesting to see it in action, though. You must be very well-trained for your age to be able to handle something like this."

She offers Asuka a congratulatory smile.

"Are you a martial artist?" Luly asks, careful to angle her tone gently just in case the answer is 'no'. "I've only been seriously piloting for a few years myself, but I've practiced the martial arts for a long time, and having to unify the body and mind like that is what let me get into the field in the first place."

"Well, if your Eva works like the Engels I'm used to, there's some kind of mental connection, right?" She's spent a long time running those possibilities around and around in her head. What if this girl is in just the same situation she is... but so much younger?

She waits a moment for some look of affirmation—or at least a lack of denial—to continue. "Being able to master your body can help your master your mind, too." And she makes a cautious little nudge into unknown territory. "If I hadn't had plenty of personal practice, I wouldn't have been able to handle Colopatiron's pain reactions as well as I can."

"Well... if you'd be interested, it would give me something to focus my mind on." Luly smiles at her. "I'm not quite a sensei, but I've reached master rank in enough arts that I've started synthesizing one of my own, if you'd be willing to help me refine it. One meant specially for mecha use, actually."

"Hey, hold your horses," Luly says with a little waggly gesture. "There's a lot of basics to get through before you can think about that. Uhh, hnn... how fast can you run a mile?" She's already started to think through just how basic she might have to start Asuka off. They might have to try and get her some extra protein, she thinks...

"We'll have to work on that," Luly says lightly. "It'll be a lot easier later if we get your cardiovascular system up to speed before we get to the really in-depth part. Straighten up so I can get a good look at you?"

"You'll have to gain some weight," Luly says as she looks Asuka over appraisingly. "How old are you?" She straightens up too, one foot hooked around a protrusion to keep herself in place, though she pauses a moment to poke a little bit at Asuka's middle.

"You're too scrawny." Luly takes hold of one of Asuka's arms and pulls it towards her, circling her hand around the wrist. "To do well as a martial artist, you need to have a lot more muscle than you have. How much would you say I weigh?" she asks, sparing a glance down at herself.

[identity profile] aworldnevermade.livejournal.com 2009-11-24 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Close enough," Luly says with a little nod. "How much do you weigh?" She reaches to take Asuka's other wrist as well, folding her hands tightly around both.

[identity profile] aworldnevermade.livejournal.com 2009-11-24 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay." She tugs a little on Asuka's wrists. "Now try and get away from me. Call it an experiment."

Luly pulls, twists—

Unless Asuka is very fast and lucky, given her relative lack of skill, she'll probably find herself in a pretzeled-up grapple in just a moment.

"Keep trying."
