Explorinating the countryside

They've taken note of the rule that people shouldn't go anywhere alone. Brainiac 5 has opted for one of the Kryptonians to accompany him as backup as he explores. The problem is, both are equally annoying, so he winds up using a randomization program om his ominocom to...well, essentially flip a coin to see who to ask to come with him.

It winds up being Supergirl. This is why the green-skinned Coluan and the blonde Kryptonian are wandering through the living area--and the city--exploring. If you can stop them from bickering a moment, you might even get a conversation out of them.

"I've yet to see anything resembling a control panel or console. This is somewhat alarming."

Brainy is also discomfited. It makes him scan the statue. "What's interesting is this statue seems to draw through the subconscious. That's the only way it could get past my mental defenses."

When faced with emotion, all he can do is revert back to his analytical, egotistical manner. Processing it is out of the question.

"Can we...can we just not be here? Like...let's go look at...some other...part of this ship. Please?"

"...Agreed. Despite the telepathic tendencies of this sculpture, this room seems to be purely geared towards aesthetic appreciation--despite the art being anything but pleasing to the eye. I'm detecting no mechanisms that would suggest we can control this ship from here."

Time to go. He took to the air, floating out of the room.

Kara followed him, turning around once to take a look at the obelisk. Evil, vile invention, you are.

She followed Brainiac out. "Okay cabbage butt, which room is next on our tour of the Living Ship?"

"Could you possibly find a more offensive nickname? Perhaps one that's actually clever?"

"I'm sorry, you actually want to be offended?" She sounds shocked and vaguely amused. "They do build you weird on the assembly line back on Coca-Colua don't they? Or is it just that you liked being put down by pretty girls?"

"I wasn't built on the assembly line; I was an advanced prototype. We're allowed our idiosyncrasies."

"Idiosyncracies or idiocies?" Kara licks her lips. "So, wait, you're really a, uh, you weren't born? Like, out of a womb?"

"I was born. It's a common joke, given the Coluan tendency towards logic over emotion, that we're robots. In honesty, most Coluans are, in actuality, robophobic," say Brainy. "I was genetically engineered--several donors, the most intelligent men the planet had to offer--had their genetic material combined to inseminate my mother, the fourth Brainiac. Effectively, I had several biological fathers, but no actual one, and a mother."

"So your mom was kind of a..." Kara stops. "I'm sorry, I was kidding. That was insensitive." A beat. "That sounds complicated though."

"Not especially. It was a typical Coluan birth. Please refrain from jokes about my mother, though."

"Hey," Kara put up her hands. "I stopped myself and I apolgized. I know enough to know that there are some borders a girl shouldn't cross."

"I appreciate it. I just wanted to make it clear it's a...sensitive subject."

His mouth quirks in an unpleasant expression.

"I was abandoned by her at birth, and she wasn't an exception to the trend of the Brainiac line producing supervillains and psychotics, as her actions with the Dark Circle made quite clear."

He's not sure why he told her that. Maybe it was seeing Kara strapped to that table with the man who had similar eyes bent over her, operating on her.

"I see." She looks at him softly. "I'm sorry, Brainy. I know what it's like having a parent who's not very...parental."

He briefly looks at her with softer-looking eyes, but that's when they go around a corner and run into someone else...
