Karaoke Night [OPEN]

Between nearly killing himself trying to help people and his talk with Nathan, Peter was exhausted. Even with his upbeat demeanor, it was hard to not say he felt stressed. His flight-breaks no longer helping, he decided he needed to take a few hours. He found himself at the sensoriums, a place he had heard talked about like the holodeck from Star Trek. As he walked in, it was a blank room. He closed his eyes and thought to himself.

I just need a way to relax.

He suddenly heard music, and opened his eyes to what appeared to be a high class nightclub, but filled with the strangest creatures he had ever seen, even since arriving on the ship. Behind the bar, a green-skinned redhead with horns, more conspicuous for his paisley shirt and purple ascot, was trying to get his attention.

"Hey, kiddo, didn't you hear them call your name?" The demon said, smiling. "You're up, bubbulah. Don't worry, I picked a good song for you." Peter eyed him warily. Wherever this place had come from, it was not his head. But decided not to question it, and went to stand in front of a karaoke machine on stage. He picked up the mike and saw the song, and smiled. He loved this song. EVERYONE loved this song. Luckily, a few years in boy's choir had given him a sense of tune, and puberty had left him with a decent tenor. So, he began to sing.

o/` I can't fight this feeling any longer,
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow... o/`

That was all it took. As if suddenly injected with 100 ccs of pure rock ballad awesome, Peter closed his eyes and began letting the music take him, eventually rocking out. He had forgotten what it was like, honestly. Forgotten the fun of just letting go and having fun. And as he finished up the REO Speedwagon classic, breathing heavily and feeling alive, he wished he hadn't.

But then he opened his eyes to notice more than just his holographic audience had filtered into the "club".

"Uh... Next?" He said as he hastily replaced the mike and went to get a holo-beer.

That was embarrassing.  He could only hope someone would follow him up and make it slightly less so.

[ooc: Start a subthread with your character approaching the stage and singing a song. Characters can react to other's performances even if they aren't singing themselves. And any song you'd like, Lorne has the entire mutliverse on karaoke. I'm not asking, and neither should you.]

Captain Kirk is onstage. I think we all know (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hARDXYz2io&feature=related) what this means.

"Doesn't change the facts. We've all done it, and in the end, we had fun with it. You never know if you'll enjoy it until you try, Mai." Static inched back around Slobo as he said this, positioning him as a shield. "Anyway, everyone, this is Mai. Play nice."

"Kat, I'm working on it. I'm having trouble thinking of something good."

Arha couldn't remember the last time she'd poured forth song--besides after healing to the children of those lost in battle to soothe them. It had been ages yet since she'd sung this one. Weaving her voice with Sheeana's was thrilling to the last note and her eyes shone with the pure thrill of it.

It was not a long song and ended all too soon with the last notes hovering, then fading into silence.

Her expression was blissful as she turned to Sheeana. Next to dancing, singing had been a favorite thing, always.

"He's right, you know. There's no harm in giving it a try, is there?" Nanoha echoed from where she was just observing from the back with a smile.

"What's the worst that could happen?"

"Wasn't the Devil," Dean muttered in between sips of his beer. He should be so lucky that Lilith was claiming his ass then, and not like Satan trying to claim his brother's ass now.

He studied Peter for a moment, "Yeah? Demons AND angels do that too." Especially angels.

"I already know I'm not going to enjoy it," Mai retorted, arms folded stubbornly over her chest.

Static clapped like there was no tomorrow. This was just too epic.

"W-what?!" Ok, that was definitely NOT something Katara could even pretend she even knew about. What did people do in different worlds sometimes? "No, Static and I are definitely just friends. I mean, he's nice and sweet and good looking, of course he is. I can't imagine a girl not wanting to be with someone like Static. The thing is...there's someone I'm waiting for."

And for now, especially when she felt the buzz on her head, she wouldn't elaborate.

"Anyway, aren't you more his style anyway? You're older and you're way more attractive and a super hero. If we both liked him, it isn't like I'd have a chance there."

She said it in both jest and as a fact. I mean, she could see why people would find Rose attractive. She was just sort of plain in comparison.

Hunter was given a proper greeting and smile. "Lovin the accent, sounds gentlemanly some how."

But her drink was stopped before it could reach her lips by Katara's comment. "Wait...whoa whoa whoa..first off You are way pretty, and powerful. And from what I have seen so far really sweet. Mot guys tend to like that in my experience. Most guys worth having anyway."

And now we've come to the painful truths portion of the show. "I uhh...I have bad luck with guys. Getting lucky and being lucky are way different. It always seems like if I like a guy he likes someone else." ok Alcohol was making Rose talk, and no wonder, look who was being a booze hound.

She chuckled. "And if we don't want to take 'no' for an answer?"

Kate wasn't big on karoake. She loved music, but she didn't think she was that great a singer. (She was ok.) It's one of the reasons she focused more on instruments. So she had the AI pull up a cello as she took the stage to play. She always found music as a good outlet for emotions. Especially now.

So her first piece (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcSCrVkrF3I) was powerful, and sad.

The second one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ziwz24B1Dog) had power, and yet was lighter, richer, and more sweeps.

This is when things were gonna get dangerous, and Static knew it. "Well, if you're so sure you won't enjoy it, then there's no reason not to use off-key songs to make everyone else suffer, is there? May as well spread the pain, rather than being too afraid to try."

He took a pull of his beer. "Ooh! I got it! Kat, I know what we're singing!" He grabbed her arm and headed off for the stage, grabbing the mics as they went. (http://www.lyrics.com/somebody-to-love-lyrics-glee-cast.html)

"Caaaaan, Anybody~..."

And this sort of talent was something Nanoha could certainly appreciate.

"That was beautiful," she said quietly. "You're quite talented."

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Kate glanced up, and gave a small smile as she set the bow down.

"Thank you. Had years of practice." Which helps of course, but she knew she had a knack for the strings.

As did Slobo. This was, as he would say, Captain Fraggin' Kirk.

"You ROCK, Captain!" Slobo yelled and applauded as much as Static. Maybe they had more in common than even Static had thought.

Gauron's passing by the sensoriums on his way back down to finish sorting through Weapons and Possessions; however, when he notices that the door to one of them is open, and there's slightly off-key singing emanating from inside, his curiosity is piqued. He decides he can afford an extra fifteen minutes before getting back to work.

He'd just been planning to hang out at the back of the room and laugh at everyone else's attempts for a while before ducking back out - but somehow, the mic ends up in his hands, and he's never one to back down from a challenge. And, luckily, he has a plan.

Club industrial might not seem like Gauron's cup of tea, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bedj1qC_jwg) but he feels like the lyrics are more than appropriate. Anyone who's familiar with the original will notice he's made a lot of slight modifications to the vocals, but that's just so that he can actually sound good while doing the song.

"The will to greatness clouds the mind,
Consumes the senses, veils the signs
we each are meant to recognize
Redeeming graces cast aside,
enduring oceans' newfound promise
that the end will never come

We live in times when all seems lost,
but the time will come when we'll look back
upon ourselves, and on our feelings
Embrace the void even closer still
Erase your doubts, as you surrender everything

We possess the power,
if this should start to fall apart,
to mend divides, to change the world
to reach the farthest star
If we should stay silent,
if fear should win our hearts,
our line will have diminished
before it reaches the farthest star

Wide awake in a world that sleeps,
enduring thoughts, enduring scenes,
the knowledge of what is yet to come
From a time when all seems lost,
from a dead man to a world,
without restraint, unafraid and free

We possess the power,
if this should start to fall apart,
to mend divides, to change the world
to reach the farthest star
If we should stay silent,
if fear should win our hearts,
our line will have diminished
before it reaches the farthest star...
"

The most obvious of those modifications is speaking rather than singing the lines, "If we fall and break, all the tears in the world cannot make us whole again," before launching back into the final chorus.

"We possess the power,
if this should start to fall apart,
to mend divides, to change the world
to reach the farthest star
If we should stay silent,
if fear should win our hearts,
our line will have diminished
before it reaches the farthest star.
"

It's about time he was on his way, but that was actually fun.

Jamie is with Caden on this. There's no way Wyn would be able to get both of them up on the stage if they stick together.

Right?

[identity profile] top-teen-38.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
The young chalky man approached Gauron, immediately.

"It wasn't my cup o' tea, but still, good song. Care fer a drink on my tab?"

It was all Slo' felt he needed to say. Maybe it would be enough.

Jamie manages, somehow, to turn a little redder as he hurries off to go find a nice corner to quietly die in. Or at the very least hide in. In a few minutes he might recover enough to appreciate that he's making people laugh, though.

Jamie acknowledges the applause with a bit of a sheepish wave and a murmured, "Thanks." He's still rather out of sorts, although something of a normal color is returning to his face.

"Hrmph."

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2009-11-14 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie listens, baffled somewhat at first by the lyrics, but by the end, he's bobbing his head in time with the music, and grinning just a little. And he'll applaud, too.

"It shows," she nodded. "How long have you been playing?"

[identity profile] toariversodeep.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
"All members of my order do," Roxie says as she shuffles her way over in Slobo and Haku's direction. Good hearing too, apparently.

[identity profile] toariversodeep.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you," Roxie says quietly once she's off the stage.
