From Dusk Till Dawn...
...Okay, so maybe that movie was about vampires and not zombies.
But as the battle in the Vatican dragged on, it might feel like it had been going just that long.
And it showed no signs of letting up just yet.

Was he above tranquilizing the old bat just to shut her up?
He considered it carefully.
No, turns out, he actually wasn't. "Keep it down over there, abuela," he said sharply.

"Ma'am, nothing is going to get into this room. I understand what you saw out there must have been terrifying, but maybe it'd be best if you just lay down for a while." And shut that crazy old trap of yours.

And that's when an eldritch wind blows from nowhere and her face changes. She was one of the original ones released, one of the special ones.
"I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOULS! I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOULS!"

Sherry's brain went white, and the little girl didn't even think to grab Eve's hand as she bolted past the adults, squeezed herself through a hole in Borg's barrier and out of the chapel. Running hurt, of course, but the pain didn't seem to reach Sherry's panicked brain.
Running first, ow-ing later, right? She could do that. She could. And she'd have to remember to apologize to all of her friends if they survived. But right now, she was running.

There's a second when he thinks that Sherry has the right idea. But instead of trying to run, he places himself between the old woman and the remaining kids in the room. Even as he does so, he's mentally calculating the distance in the room - and coming to the conclusion that the rifle is not going to work.
"Ye'll not be taking any of their souls today, ye auld hag." There's a gleam of metal as he draws his claymore from it's sheath.

"Sherry!" Lois calls after her, making chase. However, that hole Sherry squeezed through isn't going to fit an adult woman, and she doesn't get far before she has to stop dead in her tracks.
"Sherry, come back––someone get her!"

"You'll be going home with an empty stomach, you crusty old bitch!"
Yuri didn't even hear Lois's call over the sound of her own screaming (almost comical how differently she and Borg reacted) but she could guess what had happened. She wanted to go find her herself but she needed to stay here to keep the...well, whatever the old lady was...pinned here.
"Vega-kun!"

"Jesus Christ, kill it!"

While everyone else was focusing on the old woman, Terry noticed the little girl - did Lois just call her Sherry? - run past. "Ah, slag it," he cursed, making an attempt to grab her.

Nails that are far too sharp to be human slice at the drilltacles and she's freed, flying around the room again.
"I SMELL A FRESH SOUL!" She makes a dive for Vega.

Something is hurtling at him. Fast. A threat to him and everybody else. An enemy.
Not just an enemy. An opponent.
And he has a gun.
Things seem to move slowly for him as adrenaline hits his system. He raises the gun, remembers without thinking what he was taught, sights it like he's been doing it his whole life, and fires.

It's already scrabbling and spitting by the time it's in the air, and the fraction of a moment of travel is enough for it to full congeal into a white-shelled crab-spider-thing the size of a cat, full of teeth and claws and legs, and very very upset.

hopefully, right now, it was time to focus on keeping the kid safe.Sighting quickly along the gun, she fired.

He murmurs a brief prayer, then there is a much louder yell as he flings himself after the old woman, sword flashing through the air.
"CREAG AN TUIRE!"

But rather then jump at the old woman like everyone else seemed happy to do, he practically tackled Vega. The kid was firing a gun at the old woman, which was a good idea, except for the fact that along with trying to protect the kids, everyone else was almost putting themselves into the line of fire. And a gunshot wound wasn't something they needed right now. So Terry leapt at Vega, trying to grab the gun and knock the barrel out of the way before the kid shot off any more friendly fire.

When Loren came in through the door, she spared the woman a glance, gesturing with one hand back the way she'd come.
"A little girl just ran out of here, blond hair, named Sherry. Go find her! We've got this." She could prioritize, even in a crisis. The kids were priority one, here. And while none of the others had been able to get out, initially, she could see the doors had been cleared up now.

Jamie hacks off an arm and then it starts crawling around the room, "jumping" from one surface to another.
"I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!"

Luis whips his Red9 out from his belt and joins in with the shooting, trying to keep the old bitch pinned down or at least to where she can't swallow any souls all that easily.
At the back of his mind, he hears Leon's voice and sees his fist ready to knock his teeth out for letting Sherry get away, but the sad fact was, the little girl was priority #2 at the moment.
"Grab that arm and... kill it, or something!"

After the arm she goes. Bang, bang.
