From Dusk Till Dawn...

...Okay, so maybe that movie was about vampires and not zombies.

But as the battle in the Vatican dragged on, it might feel like it had been going just that long.

And it showed no signs of letting up just yet.

Daimon did not know how long he had been fighting but he was suddenly tired. Unlike the rest of the crew (he hoped), Daimon was waging two wars. One against the hordes of the undead and one against his darksoul. He nearly lost himself in that battle.

When he came to his senses he saw how dire the situation was. Much as he was loath to retreat, he needed to get back to the vestibules. The doors could not hold for long. And so he found himself shouting words the Son of Satan seldom uttered. "Fall back!"

It was almost strange to be back here, after spending so much time in that reality that felt so false, but there would be plenty of time to think about that once everything was said and done. They hadn't been told much, only that they were the reinforcements. There might have only been two of them, but they were all the reinforcements there were.

Hopefully, Nanoha thought to herself before pushing the thought from her mind, they'd be all the reinforcements that were needed. She was in her full Barrier Jacket, the robe whipping through the air as she fell in controlled descent. In one hand, she held Raising Heart, also transformed, and in the other... a labcoat.

Not just any labcoat, it was a labcoat that belonged to - and was currently ON - one Dr. McNinja, who had been her erstwhile partner in maze-running for the last while. And, she'd learned, he was also one hell of an effective close-combat fighter. They all had their roles to play, and right now her role was to keep him in the air with her using her magic as they descended toward the Vatican.

[identity profile] wantstobebatman.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
McNinja peered down at the swarm underneath them, eyes wide and expression serious. Zombies. It had to be freaking ZOMBIES.

As they neared the doors he looked up to his fellow GLaDoS kidnappee and tapped her arm, drawing his katana from it's sheath on his back.

"Hey, drop me here will you?"
starlightace: (T-that doesn't go there!)

The girl blinked down at him. She had to have misheard that. "...here? Are you sure?"

They were at least a hundred feet above the ground. Probably more than double that.

[identity profile] wantstobebatman.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Trust me." He gave her a thumbs up. "I've got this. Just give me a good swing toward the building and let go."

He paused. "And thanks for the lift this far by the way. Remember if you have to go it on the ground aim for the head, don't let them grab you, and hit them twice if you're not sure. However in your case I'd suggest staying airborne and pulling some magical carpet bombing."
starlightace: (*You gonna get befriended)

[personal profile] starlightace 2009-10-31 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Nanoha nodded, giving the man a small smile. "All right." If nothing else, their time spent running the mazes had led her to trust McNinja's judgment. "And don't worry about me; I'll stay out of their way and soften them up for you." It was just like how she'd done in drills back with the TSAB - stay in the midfield and support her close-combat teammates.

"Good luck!"

With that, Nanoha changed direction, flying more forward than downward, and used the momentum to spin around, giving him a fling in the direction of the Vatican.

[identity profile] wantstobebatman.livejournal.com 2009-10-31 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
This was something McNinja had always wanted to do. To start from a great height, take a fall and ad-lib his way through the landing. No tests, not guarantees, just to trust that he'd figure it out and it would work.

As Nanoha's fingers slipped free of his coat that confidence in the first plan that came to mind settled in as he dropped into a power dive, aiming for the side of the building, he flipped head over heels at the last moment, landing feet first against the brickwork, digging in to take advantage of the fiction, reaching back to touch the wall with one hand and slow his descent into the mass of undead below.

It didn't slow him by TOO much, really... but it gave him a great base to push off of.

A few feet above the crowd he launched from the side of the building, leaping into the frothing mass and starting to leapfrog over zombie heads and shoulders, running across the skulls of the hoard (many of which collapsed under his weight) sweeping low to decapitate or de-limb all the ones that reached for him as he made his way along trying to loop back towards the doors.

[[Moving this from this thread (http://community.livejournal.com/trans_9/157414.html?thread=12002022#t12002022).]]

Coming, eventually, Arha said, her voice a blend of soothing and the fire of battle as she sliced down yet another zombie. This, she could not do like this. Keeping her balance, she cast out for Obi-Wan's presence with part of her mind while slicing down those undead who ventured within the reach of her oct-o-pooze.

Her mind arrowed out, hunting for the familiar calmness that was her Master's. He really wasn't that far away. Arha's worm bellowed and came down hard smashing several zombies.

Obi-Wan, she thought loudly. I could use some help over here if you--

Several arms tugged at her legs and she slipped, her concentration broken as she was pulled off her worm and into the undead fray.

boi-Wan's head turned, homing in on that silent call even as it cut off. Damn damn damn, where was she?

"Arha!" He cried in horror, catching sight just as she lost her seat. The undead at the sides of the worm clustered, reaching gropingly towards a struggling body in their midst and it was into that mess he carved his path of burning flesh and corpses. His work was quick, but was it quick enough?

Arha was pissed off and went down slashing, the oct-o-pooze keeping the worst of the horde at bay until she heard the hum of a lightsaber, then saw it flash through as she kicked a body free. The stench was amazingly fierce, especially when the damned zombies were trying to eat her. Another few zombies fell and Arha collided with Obi-Wan's chest.

The oct-o-pooze snaked out and took three more zombies out of action as her worm bellowed and came crashing down , giving the both of them a moment of peace.

Arha was panting, despite her fine control as a Bene Gesserit.

"Meet," she gasped, "Shai-Hulud." She gestured to her larger worm and then to the Leto worm. "He's. Your transport." Arha grit her teeth and forced herself to take deeper breaths as she inspected her suit for damage. Lucky break. No bites.

And the smaller worm bowed its faceless head for the Jed-eye to climb on. This was the first time any of Leto's revenants had allowed someone to ride them since Sheeana.

Ride. Go.

"Right," The Jedi snapped, all business once he'd seen her alive and well, and whirled to cut back enough of the pressing horde to give them both the bare moment of breath needed to gain their mounts. Obi-Wan vaulted Arha's worm on light feet, then executed a neat flip onto the so-called 'Shai-Hulud.'

Now he was above the level of the writhing horde, and found he could lop off heads with relative ease compared to the grasping furor that the fight on the ground had been. He had a moment of confusion wondering how to steer the bedamned thing, but it seemed to be following Arha's lead, which seemed to be heading them towards the much-beleaguered front doors, which was a mercy. Screaming, dying, and the truly dead littered their wake and pressed their sides in impressive numbers and Obi-Wan smiled grimly. Now this was progress.

Arha moved once more, opening herself to the Force as she pulled on the reserves of her energy, and lashed out at any undead. She whirled and spun, maximizing her reach as much as humanly possible. The highly flexible oct-o-pooze was as much a whip as it was a sword, its tentacles precise as she knocked heads from shoulders. Her worm brought them closer to the doors as she nimbly kept her footing as Shai-Hulud rolled to squash more zombies. Arha found her way to his aft end where both her crysknife and her oct-o-pooze were of best use.

There was no time to be tired, now.

She had work to do.

There was no stopping these beasts! Jean-Paul had held back on both his flamethrower and shurikens, deciding to battle the beasts head on. Silver glistened as his bladed-gauntlets lashed out, tearing their heads apart like a hot knife through butter.

He hated to admit it, though, but he was running down. Even with the System pushing him forward, there was no way he could hold up. He was going to make a mistake somewhere along the line and he would pay for it dearly.

There's a loud roar as something big, mean, and furry comes crashing to the ground near Jean-Paul. Looks like his backup just arrived. The ten-foot tall wolfman shakes a zombie off of his back and then tears a few heads off with a swipe of his claws, snapping and snarling as he rights to keep an area clear.

He snorts at Jean-Paul, jerking his head back towards the Vestibule, the voice more of a growl then anything else.

"Go!"

Lafiel landed with a jolt that sent tendrils of pain through her knees (germhirec gravity!). Crouched amid the gore, she raised her klanyu. Zombies went down with neat quarter-thick holes burnt through their brains. She dashed through the gap towards the exhausted pikachu (http://community.livejournal.com/trans_9/157414.html).

This went against everything she'd learned in command school, every single piece of wisdom she'd managed to collect as a captain. It was epic level tactical dumbassery.

She couldn't help herself though. Pikachu was a pet.

Lafiel could not abandon a pet.

[identity profile] aworldnevermade.livejournal.com 2009-11-03 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
As Lafiel runs into the crowd of zombies and the weapons discharges trace across the sensors of Meluly's Tymazzi suit, she skids to a halt in the seared-open line her own energy beam has temporarily left.

It takes three seconds to run the calculations—longer for her to bark the order at the internal AI than to see the result. Nobody else would be able to get to Lafiel in time, taking the average rate of enemy advance and Lafiel's rate of fire.

But she's in a Tymazzi.

She runs, thruster systems flaring full as she tramples through the zombies. She can't manage full speed—not enough traction, too much in the way—but she goes from 0 to 60 in four seconds, and by the time she's halfway there she's already decelerating, armored skidplate feet grinding across the ground with a high whine, using the hyperclaws of the suit's left hand to chop the zombies out of the way as she zooms in a parabola towards Lafiel.

"" comes from the PA system of the suit, crackly but very audible, and the antipersonnel cannon of the other arm comes up.

"Get DOWN!" a voice shouted out as a grappling line zipped out and around Luly's arm, pulling it and the machine out of harm's way. Or trying to. Looking at the Flood Juggernaut, Jean-Paul began gauging the situation.

...and it wasn't good.

"You want anyone here? Come through ME!" he said. Damn his tiredness, the System'll keep him going! Raising another gauntlet arm, he began firing his shurikens at the beast at a faster rate than normal. He'll use the final setting when he can. He just wants to get it away from the others.

Re: Outside

[identity profile] aworldnevermade.livejournal.com 2009-11-03 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Pulling Luly's suit? Well, that might be a problem. See, it sure looks nimble and light from the outside, by the way she zooms around... but it's all layers and layers of composites and alloys, machinery, generators, life support... Easily over two tons, closer to three, and the only reason it can bounce around like that is that part of that equipment includes internal gravity thrusters.

In fact, as she bounces awkwardly up and backwards, jackrabbiting all at once to try and avoid the blow, she only notices that zip line as the pull of it twists her flight path.

Uh-oh. Hopefully nobody's standing where she's going to come down—now, because of the sudden "help", looking like a rather less controlled landing than it was going to be.

Re: Outside

[identity profile] avenging-bat.livejournal.com 2009-11-03 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
This was probably one of the stupidest things he's ever done. Letting himself get tossed around, Jean-Paul easily zipped past Luly as he tried to get a better shot.

"Damn thiiiiiiiiiis...!" Jean-Paul shouted, disengaging the zipline and launching him towards a wall. His body twisted as he took the impact from the back... and instinctively grabbed the wall with one of his gauntlets, letting gravity take hold as the claws dragged him down to the ground.

Noticing the beast still moving, it took a bit more focus than usual to raise his other arm and continue firing. The exhaustion was really taking hold... but he wouldn't let THAT hinder him.

"DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE YOU!"

[identity profile] playsin-traffic.livejournal.com 2009-11-03 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
A loud, almost ear-splitting howl of challenge and battle resonates in the air as a giant wolf-man gallops past Jean-Paul on all fours, teeth bared in a feral snarl as Plays quite literally charges the giant creature, aiming a raking claw attack against one of its legs. He's moving damn fast, almost a blur, shrugging off claws and grasping hands from the smaller zombies.

This what he was made for.
