From Dusk Till Dawn...
...Okay, so maybe that movie was about vampires and not zombies.
But as the battle in the Vatican dragged on, it might feel like it had been going just that long.
And it showed no signs of letting up just yet.

Outside
What the hell are you waiting for, man! They're everywhere!
Run!
Re: Outside
When he came to his senses he saw how dire the situation was. Much as he was loath to retreat, he needed to get back to the vestibules. The doors could not hold for long. And so he found himself shouting words the Son of Satan seldom uttered. "Fall back!"
The Cavalry
And now help has arrived. Dropping in from the sky.
After GLaDoS finally let them go.

Hopefully, Nanoha thought to herself before pushing the thought from her mind, they'd be all the reinforcements that were needed. She was in her full Barrier Jacket, the robe whipping through the air as she fell in controlled descent. In one hand, she held Raising Heart, also transformed, and in the other... a labcoat.
Not just any labcoat, it was a labcoat that belonged to - and was currently ON - one Dr. McNinja, who had been her erstwhile partner in maze-running for the last while. And, she'd learned, he was also one hell of an effective close-combat fighter. They all had their roles to play, and right now her role was to keep him in the air with her using her magic as they descended toward the Vatican.

As they neared the doors he looked up to his fellow GLaDoS kidnappee and tapped her arm, drawing his katana from it's sheath on his back.
"Hey, drop me here will you?"

They were at least a hundred feet above the ground. Probably more than double that.

He paused. "And thanks for the lift this far by the way. Remember if you have to go it on the ground aim for the head, don't let them grab you, and hit them twice if you're not sure. However in your case I'd suggest staying airborne and pulling some magical carpet bombing."

"Good luck!"
With that, Nanoha changed direction, flying more forward than downward, and used the momentum to spin around, giving him a fling in the direction of the Vatican.

As Nanoha's fingers slipped free of his coat that confidence in the first plan that came to mind settled in as he dropped into a power dive, aiming for the side of the building, he flipped head over heels at the last moment, landing feet first against the brickwork, digging in to take advantage of the fiction, reaching back to touch the wall with one hand and slow his descent into the mass of undead below.
It didn't slow him by TOO much, really... but it gave him a great base to push off of.
A few feet above the crowd he launched from the side of the building, leaping into the frothing mass and starting to leapfrog over zombie heads and shoulders, running across the skulls of the hoard (many of which collapsed under his weight) sweeping low to decapitate or de-limb all the ones that reached for him as he made his way along trying to loop back towards the doors.

Re: Outside
Coming, eventually, Arha said, her voice a blend of soothing and the fire of battle as she sliced down yet another zombie. This, she could not do like this. Keeping her balance, she cast out for Obi-Wan's presence with part of her mind while slicing down those undead who ventured within the reach of her oct-o-pooze.
Her mind arrowed out, hunting for the familiar calmness that was her Master's. He really wasn't that far away. Arha's worm bellowed and came down hard smashing several zombies.
Obi-Wan, she thought loudly. I could use some help over here if you--
Several arms tugged at her legs and she slipped, her concentration broken as she was pulled off her worm and into the undead fray.
Re: Outside
"Arha!" He cried in horror, catching sight just as she lost her seat. The undead at the sides of the worm clustered, reaching gropingly towards a struggling body in their midst and it was into that mess he carved his path of burning flesh and corpses. His work was quick, but was it quick enough?
Re: Outside
The oct-o-pooze snaked out and took three more zombies out of action as her worm bellowed and came crashing down , giving the both of them a moment of peace.
Arha was panting, despite her fine control as a Bene Gesserit.
"Meet," she gasped, "Shai-Hulud." She gestured to her larger worm and then to the Leto worm. "He's. Your transport." Arha grit her teeth and forced herself to take deeper breaths as she inspected her suit for damage. Lucky break. No bites.
Re: Outside
Ride. Go.
Re: Outside
Now he was above the level of the writhing horde, and found he could lop off heads with relative ease compared to the grasping furor that the fight on the ground had been. He had a moment of confusion wondering how to steer the bedamned thing, but it seemed to be following Arha's lead, which seemed to be heading them towards the much-beleaguered front doors, which was a mercy. Screaming, dying, and the truly dead littered their wake and pressed their sides in impressive numbers and Obi-Wan smiled grimly. Now this was progress.
Re: Outside
There was no time to be tired, now.
She had work to do.
Re: Outside
He hated to admit it, though, but he was running down. Even with the System pushing him forward, there was no way he could hold up. He was going to make a mistake somewhere along the line and he would pay for it dearly.
Re: Outside
He snorts at Jean-Paul, jerking his head back towards the Vestibule, the voice more of a growl then anything else.
"Go!"
Re: Outside
This went against everything she'd learned in command school, every single piece of wisdom she'd managed to collect as a captain. It was epic level tactical dumbassery.
She couldn't help herself though. Pikachu was a pet.
Lafiel could not abandon a pet.
Re: Outside
It takes three seconds to run the calculations—longer for her to bark the order at the internal AI than to see the result. Nobody else would be able to get to Lafiel in time, taking the average rate of enemy advance and Lafiel's rate of fire.
But she's in a Tymazzi.
She runs, thruster systems flaring full as she tramples through the zombies. She can't manage full speed—not enough traction, too much in the way—but she goes from 0 to 60 in four seconds, and by the time she's halfway there she's already decelerating, armored skidplate feet grinding across the ground with a high whine, using the hyperclaws of the suit's left hand to chop the zombies out of the way as she zooms in a parabola towards Lafiel.
"" comes from the PA system of the suit, crackly but very audible, and the antipersonnel cannon of the other arm comes up.
Re: Outside
Whatever this thing is, it's seriously bad news.
All the activity around Luly and Lafiel attracts the Flood Juggernaut's attention. It leaps, clearing zombies with several bounds as it zeros in on Luly's mech. One big spiked tentacle arm comes sweeping down at the Tymazzi, with a good bit of force behind it.
Re: Outside
...and it wasn't good.
"You want anyone here? Come through ME!" he said. Damn his tiredness, the System'll keep him going! Raising another gauntlet arm, he began firing his shurikens at the beast at a faster rate than normal. He'll use the final setting when he can. He just wants to get it away from the others.
Re: Outside
In fact, as she bounces awkwardly up and backwards, jackrabbiting all at once to try and avoid the blow, she only notices that zip line as the pull of it twists her flight path.
Uh-oh. Hopefully nobody's standing where she's going to come down—now, because of the sudden "help", looking like a rather less controlled landing than it was going to be.
Re: Outside
"Damn thiiiiiiiiiis...!" Jean-Paul shouted, disengaging the zipline and launching him towards a wall. His body twisted as he took the impact from the back... and instinctively grabbed the wall with one of his gauntlets, letting gravity take hold as the claws dragged him down to the ground.
Noticing the beast still moving, it took a bit more focus than usual to raise his other arm and continue firing. The exhaustion was really taking hold... but he wouldn't let THAT hinder him.
"DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE YOU!"
Re: Outside
This what he was made for.
Re: Outside
Helloooo there.
The Juggernaut stumbles, regains its balance and jumps back. It centers its attention on Plays now and flails its tentacle arms at him. Move, Plays!
