So here was the thing: It was pretty hard not to notice when your previously unconscious companion suddenly stirs and decides there's something particularly interesting about your scent. Frankly, the fact that she was a member of his team made it only mildly less disconcerting, all around.

There were, however, more important matters at hand, such as shooting the zombies swarming through the Vatican before they got the bright idea to try and start climbing things. He'd happily pass on those sorts of zombies.

He did briefly pause when some of the zombies changed, however. "Did you just do what it looks like you did?"

"I actually meant to inform you that I kind of lied about being a normal person, being team leader and all for future tactics. Kind of got distracted. Be nice if you didn't spread the word around." Selene said, not looking away from the zombies.

"I needed a human scent. You know how people don't always notice how they smell themselves? Or I'd use mine. On the plus side, any of those zombies reach here, they'll probably think you're rotten meat if they stop attacking other zombies and not try to eat you. Bigger bonus if it messes with how they view living humans smell on a whole and might not eat people."

See, this? This was why he wanted to get to know his team well before Stacy started belching zombies all over the Vatican. Things like secretly being an infiltrator Terminator (which he still hadn't puzzled out all the way, because weren't those infiltrators to begin with?), or a supernatural being were really handy to now ahead of time.

He went back to shooting, because shuffling zombie hoardes waited for no man, but he did manage a sidelong glance at the woman. "So what exactly did you do to them?" Secrecy was a matter for another time.

"Illusions. Right now they smell, sound, and appear to be human. To a limited degree, they feel like it. Like body heat. Can't do anything about taste and it's only physical in the fact there's a zombie body inside the illusions. Which is why they might realize your scent means infected meat, because it'll taste the same. I can also astrally project, which is why you might have noticed me asleep earlier. If the numbers go down, I might go down again and see if any of them can be put to sleep. I've put an organic ship to sleep before, so zombies might be affected too, but it takes too much time for this much to try that right now. Getting them to kill each other is faster," Selene explained in a very matter of fact tone as she maintained the illusions.

"There's also more to my powers, but the rest isn't really relevant to the situation." Zombies didn't dream, after all.

Right, illusions. They were on a living alien space ship with Terminators and John Connor and Kirk, and they were under attack by zombies. Why not astral projection?

Putting zombies to sleep, however, seemed like a long-shot. "Don't suppose you could do that to more of them?" Unlikely, as he assumed she'd have done it from the start, if she could, but it was his responsibility to ask. And yes, Selene, he would be questioning you thoroughly on the rest of your powers after this. Or during, if things got dodgy.

"I'm trying to see what reacts best. I have to move the illusion. If there's no zombie in it, then it's pointless," she said and pointed to the front. "I see a bunch of fire that way. I'm guessing that's people setting them on fire and with that much, probably outside the front door. Tell me if any of them start to come close to where I'm working."

She then moved her hands towards the back, her fingers starting to move as she formed more illusions, trying to avoid the green ones now that one started moving. "And definitely better to see what reacts. One of the green ones got bigger after going still after attacking one. Which means I'd rather not make those attack others and get stronger unless those die by headshots. But the big ones never die by headshots that easily it seems."

She will be dodgy in those questions too because she really doesn't want to fully explain her dream wanderings. Even if it did give her a gather good bit of knowledge on zombies.

They were common nightmares.

He didn't get all of that, but he pretty much understood the gist of it. Good thinking on the door guards with the fire, too. That, and the blast of energy he'd seen. With the swarm he was looking at, they'd need more than bullets to stop it.

"The big ones never go down easily." While she worked her magic, he kept on whittling down the hoardes, such as he could. "Are our people going to think those guys are changing?"

"I'm trying to switch it off quick enough after the zombie stops moving that the people on the roofs will think it is an illusion. I'm not the only one who can do this stuff on board. And I've been leaving out the screams, and that'd be an indicator that the person was still alive. Zombies haven't seemed to realize that though. So if they aren't too impulsive, they should figure it out that it's not likely real people just popped up in the middle of zombies and only just now are getting eaten," Selene said. She hoped. She really, really did hope. Because she'd really, really hate if someone jumped down and got eaten because of it.

"But that's also why I'd like to know if you see any of the people doing the fire stuff are getting close to where I'm working. I don't want them to mistake them for real and I can stop the illusion at any time." Mitchell could afford a glance away.

Selene was doing too much precision work to even try. Though that's also why she chose to do it ear the hoard was entering the square. A lot of distance between there and the front door. Not to mention it'd make a good joke point to weaken the flow if a bunch stopped to 'eat.'

He really, really did hope no human noticed it, because in a situation like the one they found themselves in, people weren't always rational. Things that made perfect sense not to do on a normal day didn't make so much sense when you had a hoard of zombies clawing at the door out of nowhere, and apparently hapless humans suddenly in the middle of them.

"Got it. You just...keep doing your thing."

Selene knew that. That's why she was hoping. Really, the reason she could convince herself to do this was because she could become detached from it. Dreams felt real to her and after so many zombie nightmares, she got used to thinking about it more logically.

So, she just hoped she was doing enough that other people saw it wasn't likely to be real people.

"Will do, sir. Tell me if a headshot works on a big green one, by the way if you get one. I can make them freeze up then if that does work."
