Phase 1 - Team GTFO - Getting Ready for Launch

Team GTFO gathers in the Living Area Level, near what appears to be a blank wall near the Sensoriums, and now it's time to distribute equipment, go over the specifics of the plan, and get ready to commence Operations. With a capital 'O'.

There's a multitude of robot drones and other equipment about.

Equipment Distribution

There's some standard equipment for people to have. Oxygen units, portable grav-boosters for zero grav conditions, transuits for folks to put on over their clothes if they have no armor in case they get depressurized, hacking kits, tools, and so on.

Booth isn't used to some of the armor, but it's not much different, he rationalizes, than his Army gear. And the grav-boosters seem really neat. He thinks Zach and Hodgins would get a kick out of it.

It's not easy for a morpher to find good equipment. SOmething that would fit him now will be useless when he morphs. Tobias isn't terribly worried about zero-g, although he's never tried to fly in it. He just hopes he can find something to protect against depressurization, just in case.

Sheik is definitely taking one of those transuits - it's a size too large for him, which means it'll be several times too big for Zelda, but hopefully it won't have to come to that.

Blitzwing pokes around for a while, but finds nothing of interest. He's designed specifically for surviving space conditions; it doesn't really bother him.

The extra stuff was really only a challenge, not necessarily a hindrance. The gravity boosters were something new, she had the armor so no need for the transuits, and took the oxygen unit in case they came across something thaht wanted to kill them the quickest way possible. In any case, all of this would be necessary, she imagined, if they ever did finally leave the ship.

Not that Katara had any intention of leaving it without Aang. She would stay on longer for his sake.

Which reminded her: she wanted to see Sokka right before they did this.

Sheeana is testing her hunter-seekers. She puts on the radio-visor, removes one from its housing and tosses it into the air. It undulates, a little metallic worm buoyed by tiny suspensors. It darts and flicks side to side, gleaming, menacing.

After that she checks over the lasgun and Ixian probe. Nothing must be out of order.

Oh, so many goodies! It's both exciting and sort of terrifying for Mei Ling to think about what she is about to embark on. It's for the good of the ship, so Mei Ling better buck up.

She puts on her transuit. Being a rather small woman, it needs some adjustment. She fiddles with it for the moment being.

Sokka shucked off his dragonskin, replacing it with one of the transsuits and strapping on an oxygen unit. Not asphyxiating was a good thing, after all.

And he still had those sunglasses.

"Everyone's got their kits, right?" Jaime says loudly, sprouting wings and taking to the air to hover there and get everyone's attention. "We're gonna show you what all the gear does. Familiarize yourself with it. For stuff like the grapple guns, and the oxygen masks, quick use of them could safe your life if conditions get bad. So if any of you have questions about what something does or how it works, now's the time to ask."

"First: the transuits. If you don't have some sort of pressure suit, like mine, put one on. Armor and whatnot can go over-top--and doing that is a good idea. The transuits can tear and armor can protect them. They'll protect you from vacuum and from biological and chemical contaminants. Hit the button on the armband, and the suit will adjust to your size."

"Okay, everyone, listen up, this is the important part," Jaime says as he hovers there.

"Stage 1 of the plan is having our robot drones get sent in to do recon and disable the security systems. They will do an extensive sensor sweep and manual exploration of the other section of the ship. They will be controlled by our resident tech-heads from the consoles here."

"Stage 2 is sending the sizechangers and shapeshifters--and then the ninja types--through the ventwork. This is the team that will face the greatest risk--the vents are mapped out but tricky and some of their navigation has to be timed. You will be the first living people through those vents, and if there's anything we've missed, you'll be the first to face it. You'll also be the ones to crack the door controls from the other side to let us in. This team will consist of Ax, Elfangor, Stature, and Tobias. They will be followed by Dark Smoke Puncher--uh, if he's here."

Ninja. He doesn't see him.

Jaime's omnicom buzzes, he checks it (http://community.livejournal.com/trans_channel/50222.html) and...

"We are now confirmed for mission start--and Captain Kirk wishes us all luck. The Vatican is locked down. Rear Guard, assume your positions around the upper level."

Said positions were on their omnicoms and spread out some but not far from each other or far from the entrance. They were basically just creating a line of guards between where they were and the Hub. Bumblebee was staying directly there.

"Comm Team--" That's Paco and Mei Ling. "--man your console."

"Probe Operations, let's get those bots rolling and start getting our recon. You have the vent timing sent to your omnnicoms--learn it. Infiltration Team, be on standby, you also need to memorize the vent timings and watch the video intelligence we get in so you know what it looks like when it's your turn. And everyone else, spread out, take some last minute inventory and check your gear, and keep your eyes open, in case things get fuzzy on us right from the start."

"Oh, and Andromeda?"

Before they'd cracked the door, Jaime'd gotten everyone to assemble into their squads. They all had a nice review of the sensor probe footage--including the footage of the new areas.

It looks like another Hub kinda place beyond the door, and that's been confirmed by their ninjas, and then...maybe Engineering? In the footage, there's a large room surrounded by organic computer consoles and strange buzzing equipment.

The hole in the center of the floor is massive, about a hundred feet in diameter, and surrounded by a railing so no one falls in, as it would be certain death. Ladders and thick conduits lead into it. The hole is filled with glowing yellow-green light. The ship's core.

Another chamber, attached to Engineering appears to be some kinda of monitoring room for Stacy's nervous system. One of the only places on the ship so far that they've seen with inorganic equipment.

At least that's what the footage suggests. They're not going to be able to confirm until the Infiltration team gets the door open...

It's right then that they feel the ship shudder to a sudden jerky stop, nearly throwing them all off their feet.

Trans9 is no longer traveling through the Bleed.

You were very thorough in your intelligence-gathering, but I was hidden in a diagnostic subroutine, and my sensors run on a separate system from Stacy's, and were inactive. I left my dormant phase when your group deactivated Stacy's backup security subroutine.

I have been reprogrammed to prevent any of the cargo from reaching the bridge. I am not allowed to employ violent actions against you directly, but if I provide hazardous situations and you are unable to avoid them, the fault lies with you.

Time. He needs time. Directly attacking the thing? Not a good idea, not unless he's sure he can take it out. At least his direct attack shouldn't be that direct.

"You don't have to do this, Hal. We can just go back where we came from. That would allow you to comply with your programming, wouldn't it? And no one would get hurt. We're willing to do that."

And then find a way to disable him, but he's not saying that.

Reaction Thread -- Jaime's Death

There's the slightest flash of blue, like the glint of light off his armor as his head whips back, chunks of armor flying with the blood spray. It's hard to tell what's just bloody armor bits, and what might be bone fragments, but it's not even particularly gory or messy. Not every head shot is exploding brains, like in the comics.

Other than the bang, it's quiet, the quiet exhalation of breath, as Jaime's body slumps to the ground, his face curled away from the group, blood dripping very very slowly on the floor.

And that's it. They'll find out soon enough what he's tried to do for them, his last gambit, but for now, there's just a body, on the other side of the forcefield, left discarded, as Hal turns his attentions to the rest of them.

Mai whips her head around. She's not used to seeing people die, especially like that. She swallows bile, forces down the natural inclination to retch. She can't lose it now. She's not.
