Whodunnit?

It was time to get a little more organized, share some information with each other. She had a talk with that bigface kid, Jaime, to see if he could do anything to shield them from Stacy's prying eyes and he said he had a few ideas, so a meeting place was chosen, and it was time to gather.

Cybil had a good authoritative, shouting voice.

"Everyone, listen up! We're meeting down in the city near that big tree. Grab whoever you see and get down there."

Indeed they were. People were starting to gather there.

[ooc: Instead of little subthreads, everyone post in one thread as people arrive. Try to keep the convo general, like everyone talking to each other, instead of devolving into private conversations.]

Kate had some experience with sonic attacks so she had covered her ears, but that kept her from grabbing Paco. Instead something else grabbed him, and she yelled his name, and aimed some arrows for whatever the hell was grabbing him. She then tried to climb up the building, and stabbed a bug that tried to grab her.

Okay, so everything was bigger in Texas. That did not cover roaches bigger than he was.

"JAIME!" he shouted, whacking the doom roach around the head-ish area. "I COULD USE SOME LASERS OVER HERE!"

The doom roach gave him a shake, like a dog with a stick, and slammed him into the side of the building. The stick flew out of his hand and Paco was out cold.

Ladies and gentlemen, the cavalry has arrived!

...Okay, the cavalry is a blue centaur with extra eyes and a truly wicked-looking scythed tail, but there's still a cavalry.

One of the roaches was trundling toward the unconscious Nathan, apparently intent on killing him or dragging him off somewhere. It was unimpeded until the full weight of a teenage Andalite landed on its back.

FWAP! FWAP! FWAP! The head-like portion of the roach in question fell off and rolled out of the way. Ax removed its legs as well. If it was anything like Earth roaches, beheading it wouldn't kill it, but he did want to make sure it couldn't attack any of the others.

< Please do not harm me, I am assisting you! > he announced to the rest of the crew as he went after another roach.

"Fuck! CONNOR!" Murphy screamed after his brother, already unloading more bullets into the gigantic bugs. If a stray bullet got Ax, he didn't seem to notice.

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2008-09-30 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
< AAAHH! > Ax yelped, managing to twist out of the way enough that Murphy's bullets didn't seriously injure him. One stalk eye took in the damage and then swiveled in Murphy's direction, taking note of his face.

At least it hadn't been a Dracon beam.

FWAP! FWAP! FWAP!

< Could someone please retrieve this man so that I may be of more assistance? > he asked, dispatching another roach that had been heading for Nathan.

After her continuous pleas to Stacy for help went unanswered, Lyta was pulled back to the reality of what was going on by the sound of Ax's voice in her head. He'd changed.

Jerking her head in his direction, she saw Ax fight off a series of roaches in his attempt to protect Nathan. NATHAN!

Her eyes widening, Lyta kept her head low as she rushed over to the unconscious man, having to duck a couple of times as Ax's bladed tail swished by her and took down another roach.

"I've got him!" she shouted as she grabbed Nathan's arm and wrapped it around her shoulders before she attempted to hoist him up. 'I think,' she thought when she realized just how heavy he was.

"You are so going on a diet," she groaned at the unconscious Nathan as she began to drag him away.

As soon as ears were mentioned, both Pat and Tox had a bad feeling-one that was quickly confirmed. The sonics were more than enough to affect Toxin, and he was unable to hold up against them, going from suit form to just a mess of red and black, somewhat stringy glop.

Pat went down as well, the shock to Toxin making him pass out.

This was hell all over again. The ringing in his ears was painful, disorientating, and he could only hope the pipsqueak hadn't permanently damaged his hearing. That complaint was far back in his mind, however; he could see well enough, even if, at this point, he didn't want to really be involved in this scene anymore.

The last time he'd been in something like this.. at least his foes had been human, with human enough motivations. This, he didn't get. Not in the slightest.

Tony's hands curled into fists, even as he quickly scanned the battlefield, looking for something, anything, to strike back with. No good opportunities presented themselves. What was he going to do, fistfight a giant insect?

Still, a blur of red and black had captured his attention. Shit. Pat. The cop had seemed like a nice enough guy, infestation aside, and Tony found himself wading through the mayhem, finally focused on something, trying to be of use to somebody.

[identity profile] the-cute-speedy.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Scuze me handsome.." Mia jumped onto Tony's shoulder, then propelled herself forward, firing a freeze-arrow in mid-leap at one of the bugs. Mercifully, the requisite earplugs had been stashed with her sonic arrows.

Then she was on the floor again, and the dramatic action-hero moment was passed. Now she was hip-deep in a very real survival horror scenario. "I can do this... I can do this.. I'm too cute to die here." She shouldered her bow for the moment and readied her sword against the nearest bug.

The roaches weren't happy about the blue thing with the sharp tail. Especially since it kept getting between them and the female trying to drag an unconscious male to safety. But they had sheer numbers on their side, and there was only one of it. They could wear it down eventually.

The bug Mia hit with her freeze-arrow certainly froze. Unfortunately, the two bugs behind it simply clambered over it's back and split up, one heading straight for Mia and the other cutting Tony off from Pat. Another one cut behind him to keep him away from the rest of the group.

In fact, separating the remainder of the crew seemed to be the master plan, especially splitting those without super powers away from those with super powers.

Besides, they only had half of the set of twins. You needed both, didn't you?

[identity profile] titanium-will.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Weight suddenly pressed against Tony's shoulder, a grunt of displeasure leaving him as the girl decided to use him as a trampoline. Damnit, didn't she see he was busy? Her remark, of course, fell on deaf ears. Literally.

He'd almost made it, though he wasn't entirely sure what he was going to do when he got to Pat; drag the poor bastard back, if possible, try to offer some form of help, but one of the insects had suddenly scooted in front of him. Well, if you could say anything that big really scooted. He started cursing a blue streak, at that point, and if it didn't move, he'd try to kick the damn thing.

He never really noticed the one behind him.

Vincent strode through the battlefield, invisible. This was his element, his Aesir blood pounding in his ears. The field was too cluttered with pawns allies to use any wide range spells, so he opted for a more personal touch. Both his hands were coated with destructive energy, more than enough to rend these bugs to pieces.

He weaved his way past each obstacle he came across, plunging his magic-laden hands into the bugs, ripping them open. He couldn't help but smile. This was the most fun he'd had in quite some time. But he was going to make sure this battle came to a close soon. This was his domain now, and he wasn't going to let some miserable lot of vermin interfere with his plans.

Speaking of Aesir, Wednesday's been contributing a bit, too—nothing supernatural, but he's good with that scimitar, hacking at joints and limbs with the smooth efficiency of a trained soldier... not that there are armies today that really train in that kind of thing. "Pull back!" he shouts, hoping there are enough who can still hear him to actually matter. "Stay together!"

He's trying to clear through the separating bugs, and one-on-one—despite the occasional obvious twinges of pain or overexertion—he's quite good at it. The problem is that there's far, far too many to get through in time.

Well, there's one good thing, at least... this all seems to have put a bit of color back into his cheeks.

Snug like a hug from a bug! The roach wrapped its front legs around Tony and lifted him up off the ground as easily as a child. And to insure his tractability, it lowered the plates down over its eyes and headbutted the back of Tony's skull.

One more down.

Vincent and Wednesday were fast becoming another of the bug's least favorite people. Roaches were hard to kill, but ripping them open was more than just incapacitating, and there's only so much a bug could do without functional legs. They tried to herd both of them in the direction of the leg-chopping blue thing. Several tried to swarm Vincent and take chunks out of his arms and legs.

Meanwhile, the bullets didn't seem to be doing too much good. It hurt them, yes, but roaches are hard to kill. Most of those using bullets were without super powers, and these roaches had long since adapted to dealing with baseline humans.

Suddenly, he was lifted off his feet. The stream of profanities were suddenly cut off as something crashed into the back of his head. Everything went black. So much for him having a thick skull.

It was possibly the quietest he'd been in a long time.

[identity profile] nothawkingbird.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Kate had lost sight of where these damn things took Paco, and arrows weren't working. Slashing off pieces of them with her sword helped though.

Like hell were they gonna grab her if she could stop it.

"C'mon, where's the giant cans of RAID when we need it?" She yelled through the chaos.

Christofel takes the simple route of running when and where he can, trying to stay behind the others... to look at him he seems little more than an ordinary person, if a rather panicked one.

[identity profile] the-cute-speedy.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Mia snarled as more advanced on her. They were too heavily armored to hack, and the legs were moving too fast to target joints, so she settled on a more tried and proven tactic.

Everything was squishy inside.

She let one get dangerously close, then thrust her sword like a fencer, down it's gullet, twisting and then withdrawing it to guard against the next.

[identity profile] vincent-amora.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
That did it. The bugs weren't breaking through his blasts, but they were swarming him enough that Vincent decided some damage to his allies was justified. His own life took priority.

"REPEL!!" He brought his palms together and changed his spell. A force-field blasted away from him, pure force energy repelling bug and selectee alike.

[identity profile] mynameisax.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
< AHHH! >

Ax was slammed into the side of a building by Vincent's friendly-fire, leaving him stunned and unsteady.

[identity profile] thexanwhosees.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Xander was also trying to fight the giant bugs, and holding up ok. But there was no time to react before the blast from Vincent sent him flying, and landing right in the middle of a group of the bugs.

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
One pile of bugs dragged Xander away.

Another pile of bugs was dispelled with a blast of blue energy, as a very disgusted looking armored superhero climbed out of it. They hadn't been trying to kill him or drag him off. It was like they thought he was a kindred buggy spirit or something.

"Ohmygod they tried to feed me a piece of Hudson!"

Wait, where was Paco?

No.

NO NO NO NO!

But he couldn't just run off looking for him. Unfortunately it did not work that way--he hated that it never worked that way. Not when you were a superhero.

But Paco knew that. There was some comfort in that at least.

Looking around the battlefield and noticing who was missing, and who wasn't, he quickly noticed the common thread.

Powers. No powers.

Except for one.

He called up one of the comm frequencies on a hunch, hoping their comms had been in with their belongings.

"Superboy! You're half-blind! You're not going to find them!"

[identity profile] el-escarabajo.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Robin will keep them alive. you know he will. And they're all pretty tough. Get back here! We need to regroup! These people need your help. You're the closet thing we've got to the Big Guy here--"

[identity profile] so-pregnable.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
"It's my fault he got grabbed! You've got plenty of other capes back there--"
