Oh, good - at least he isn't alone - [Ahem!] - at least he and Zelda aren't alone in this place.

"Ah," he says, smiling faintly, "And I don't suppose you would know how to get back there?"

Shadow Link shrugged. "Everyone is apparently looking for a way home, but as far as I know, they haven't found one," he said. There can be a noted lack of disappointment in his voice at this statement. Really, he almost said it like he was talking about the weather.

Sheik practically deflates, sighing and leaning back against the wall for a moment. If there's no way out, then he and Zelda are stranded. But then, Link is walking into enemy territory with no one to meet them there, lacking the weapons that he needs to free Hyrule, and...

"Truly?" he half-mutters, "There's no way out?"

Perfect.

"In that case," he enquires of the boy, "Perhaps you can tell me what this place is?"

"None according to the crew," Shadow Link said. Odd, he felt almost...bad for disappointing the other. He quickly squashed that feeling. It was probably whatever it was that seemed to be drawing him to the other.

"Some creature that acts like a vessel through the stars supposedly that's named Stacy," he explained simply.

"...are you...a human?" He asked. This person...almost seemed like a shadow. But that couldn't be right.

Sheik raises his eyebrows at the question - although now that the issue of humanity has come back, he's realising that the boy is positively steeped in the Shadow. Curious.

"What do you think?" he asks cryptically.

"I think you don't feel human," Shadow Link said. "You're not...like what I'd expect that feels sort of like you, but it's not enough to be like that and be how you are."

No reason for him to be specific if he's not getting a straight answer.

Sheik's eyebrows raise even further - he's not sure whether the boy just managed to out-cryptic him or whether that was just incoherent.

Finally, and with only a little help with Zelda, he manages to detangle the sentence (somewhat). "What were you expecting, then?"

"Usually for what I sense from you that makes me think you aren't human results in a being that's rarely able to string together a sentence, let alone look like you and can avoid answering my question," Shadow Link said, raising an eyebrow.

Well, that was... slightly more coherent.

"What, precisely, do you sense from me, then?"

And is it the same thing I can sense from you?

[You think he has ties to the Shadow?]

[Yes.]

"The same thing I wouldn't be surprised you're sensing from me," Shadow Link retorted. "But since I was asking what you were first, it's only polite you answer first, don't you think?" He asked with a smirk.

((OOC: I hope it stops doing that next time you're on.))

That would be an answering smirk - not quite as obvious, with the cowl, but still present.

"You have links to the Shadow, don't you?" he asks.

((OOC: Hopefully I won't have to use that horrid thing ever again!))

Shadow Link's smirk grew. "You do? Close, but just a bit off in your guess," he said. After all, they weren't 'links.' He WAS one.

((OOC: *Pats.*))

He shrugs. "You are a shadow?" It's a wild guess, considering most true shadows are mindless and can't tolerate light in any form, whereas this one clearly is not and can.

He's not Sheikah, that much is for certain - he feels just a little too different, and he lacks the red eyes that all Sheikah possess, and the minor fact that other than himself and Impa ([No, not Impa any more.] [...Force of habit]), there are none left. At least, none he knows of.

"So the only question, what are you? Something the Royal Family knows, that I'm almost certain," Shadow Link said, gesturing casually at the Eye.

In a round about way, he had just said that yes, he was a shadow.

Duly noted. He smiles faintly at the shadow and nods once. "The Royal Family does indeed know of us, yes," he comments - their loyal servants and protectors for hundreds of years, as the princess in his head is testament to.

"I am one of the Sheikah."

"Sheikah?" Shadow Link asked, raising an eyebrow. "And what is that? I've seen the symbol, but never heard of that race."

"You have not...?" He's a little surprised, to say the last - despised by some parts of Hyrule, yes, but most have at least heard of the Sheikah - as a story to frighten the children, if nothing else.

"We are the Shadow Folk," he says quietly.

[Sheik, is this wise? Telling him this?]

[We are no longer in Hyrule, and he's only a child. I will not reveal your presence, but telling him what I am cannot be a danger.]

Shadow Link frowned at that. "I have never seen anyone like you in Hyrule, let alone near or in the castle," he said. "I'm one of the few truly sentient shadows. If there was a 'Shadow Folk,' why haven't I heard of you?"

More to the point, why hasn't Sheik heard of him? A sentient shadow - the only one he knows of is that monster down in the Water Temple. What distant corner of Hyrule must this boy be from?

"Perhaps..." he says slowly, but it's Zelda who interrupts.

[I do not believe he is from a different place. But he feels... displaced,] she tells him softly, [Out of order. Almost as if he isn't from a different place, but a different...]

Sheik nods, almost as if to himself. "Perhaps... does this... place take people from different times, not just different locations?" he asks.

"I have heard that could happen," Shadow Link said. After the whole finding out about alien thing, he was trying to find out more about the people here and he heard something about people not being taken from the same place in time, but still 'being' there for when they shouldn't.

In that case, it's possible that this boy is from a different time entirely.

"Are you familiar with the Hyrule of the era of the Hero of Time?" he asks slowly, "That is the time I hail from."

Shadow Link paused at that, thinking about it. "...yeah, but that was a long, long time ago. Why?" Of course he bothered to learn about the other heroes. He'd heard rumors from the monsters about Ganondorf.

He had wanted to see if there was something true about them.

"Ah," he smiles slowly - that explains it. He can tell Zelda is itching to ask him about it, time that flows endlessly like a river for him as malleable and understandable as putty under her hands, but it would not be wise to reveal herself.

"Then you are from a great deal to our future - no wonder the Sheikah have been all but forgotten." And isn't that a cheerful thought.

The future? Well, he supposed he could be from the future. "So why does the Royal Family still remember them?"

Another small smile. "The Royal Family remembers a great deal," he simply shrugs - he knows that Zelda possesses knowledge of times even before that of the Book of Mudora, and that there is more yet in the archives, untouchable by Ganondorf, for her to learn when they return.
