A House Divided [Part 3]

[Instructions: Here.]

Despite a few tricks up their sleeves, the Conspirators hardly stood a chance. It's all or nothing as they make a few last ditch attempts to kill the Yeerk, and as the fight grinds to a screeching halt.

Will they kill the Yeerk?

Will someone other than the Yeerk get killed in the crossfire?

"There are other medics," Katara said, "But I'm also gathering anyone that's fallen down and gotten hurt. In your case, I think we better get you into the huts too. I hope you aren't feeling too uncomfortable?"

"Uncomfortable?" the death knight echoed, laughing at the thought. "I feel nothing. No pain, no pleasure. I feel no different now than I did but a few scant moments ago, albeit with a better control of my limbs, and perhaps not so lightheaded."

"Oh," Katara said, turning a little red. "I'm not sure exactly how that works. I've never met...well, a skeleton before until you were pod popped. Um...how do you usually deal with the cracked skull?"

"They will seal once more when placed against my skull, like a puzzle," he replied.

"It is not the first I have experienced; it shan't be the last."

"I see."

FREE-KAY. Still, Katara wsa hardly one to complain. At least he wouldn't need to be healed. All of this running around was really beginning to tire her out.

"Stupid projectiles," Katara muttered, finding some of the skull pieces. "They're more trouble than their worth."

"'Tis an inconvenience for me, and naught but that, Milady Katara," Khel said. Admittedly, it was a nuisance, but he'd pulled himself together in the past.

Milady. Wow. A skeleton with manners? It was hard to find guys who weren't skeletons that had those.

"Who knows what weird weapon they'll have next," Katara said, half to herself. "Pulling out metal is a lot harder than I though. I have no idea how Toph does it."

"Do not jump ahead of thyself, Milady; I am certain we may help still if we but put our heads together." The puns came naturally to the death knight. After well over five millennia of loneliness, he was finally beginning to feel some of the nuances of his former life.

And at that, Katara couldn't help but laugh aloud. "You knwo, only YOU could make jokes about something like this! But I think its helping. It makes all this craziness easier to bear."

And knowing that just made things SO much harder.

"'Tis true, I have a certain head for it."

Katara facepalmed. It was like having Sokka around but with a detatched head! What she wouldn't give to hear what Toph would have said to that!

Instead, she gingerly put the pieces of the skull in her pouch. "Something tells me you kill at social gatherings."

"Heads do roll," he replied dryly.

"Oh boy."

Katara got the final skull piece, but there was a smile on her face.

"Let's get you to the hut."

"How shall my body be moved? Skeleton or no, I believe the armor would make it far too heavy to be carried by thee."

To answer his question, Katara waved her right hand in the air, and a geiser of water appeared from the crack on the floor, moving his body far quicker than Katara would have been able to carry it. She gave a secret smile.

"Just kids, yeah right," Katara muttered.

"I judge not what others are capable of, for I am in no position to judge. My own body serves only to remind me daily of the failures of my past."

Katara gave him a small smile. "Well, on this ship, it apparently means you can't do dangerous things like this. In my opinion, getting as many people involved on this ship never hurts."

"Perhaps. Or perhaps they merely feel that childhood is a time for being childish. Believe me, there is time enough in one's life to deal with the darkness and the things that lie within."

"I guess that makes . But they're forgetting something: the reason we're here in the first place is because Stacy wanted our abilities, and in our world, using those abilities were necessary. I can tell you that in my world, trying to stay like a child was a good way to get yourself killed."

"Yet here thou art. Thy world is not where thou remain, Milady Katara, and I've little doubt that these people only wish to see you enjoy what fleeting moments thou hast. I dare not even dream of being like thee again. I would settle for death."

What he said startled Katara a bit. "They can't make it so I can enjoy being a kid. That's not what I was brought here for. If it were, trust me, I'd be more than happy to enjoy the break."

They finally reached the hut. "There. Hopefully you can pull yourself together here."

Oh god. She was doing it too.

Khel's eyes turned up to glance at Katara, a single non-existent eyebrow arching incredulously. "That is hardly true. And I apologize again for the trouble, Milady; I did not intend to fall to pieces."

They could probably do this all day.

"I'll check on you later," she said. "I have to maker sure no one else is left injured out there."

"Very well. I shall endeavor to remain in this spot." Like he could go anywhere as he was.
