A House Divided [Part 3]

[Instructions: Here.]

Despite a few tricks up their sleeves, the Conspirators hardly stood a chance. It's all or nothing as they make a few last ditch attempts to kill the Yeerk, and as the fight grinds to a screeching halt.

Will they kill the Yeerk?

Will someone other than the Yeerk get killed in the crossfire?

Chaucer first, by instinct, tried to shrink away from the approaching man. He'd been taken prisoner on the battlefield before, and did not relish repeating the experience. There wasn't anything he could precisely do, however, except wince and try not to whimper as the fellow tried to help him.

"Geoff-- Geoffrey Chaucer," he managed, barely, swallowing to try to keep his voice even, "writer." He tried to focus on breathing evenly, slowly as he could manage, and not on the pain. "Don't suppose... heard of me?"

Robert looked at the other man (Geoffrey), brow furrowing. The named sounded familiar, but he couldn't place where he'd heard it. Oh well. He swallowed nervously, the blood warm and sticky underneath his fingers. This wasn't good. Not at all.

"I...your name sounds familiar, Geoffrey. I can't remember where from though." He locks eyes with the other man. Had to keep him awake and focused, the longer he could do that, the better chance he would have of surviving until a doctor or a medic came.

"I'm Robert. I'm going stay with you until we can get you a doctor, okay? I'm not gonna leave you."

And luckily for Robert, he didn't have to. Katara was done gawking at the Jedi convention and had moved out again, looking for more wounded. Sokka had done the same, and hopefully he would find someone that could still be moved. It occurred to her SOME people couldn't afford to be waterbended, not when they had no clue what it even WAS.

Katara spotted the injured man and...the man who had been previously fighting with the wolf. So he HAD come off the winner. Lucky him.

"He's losing consciousness," Katara said, looking grim. "I'd better stop the bleeding. There will be others coming soon but this has to be stopped up now."

Katara bent over to Chaucer. "This will only take a few minutes, and then we're moving you over to a place where they will concentrate on your injuries, ok?"

Katara closed her eyes and concentrated on his side and hand, the water in her hands starting to glow. She was glad she sat in with Pagoda at the North Pole: her teaching was about to pay off.

As black began to swirl before Chaucer's eyes, a little girl came, said something, and...glowed? What was she doing? Magic?

But she said she was helping.

It was too much for his barely-conscious mind to grapple with.

With one last, frightened whimper and a beseeching look at Robert, Chaucer fainted.

"Hey, Geoffrey, stay with me! Hey!" He muttered a curse under his breath, feeling that horrible feeling of fear and uncertainty deep in his gut. How many of his buddies had given him that look while the medic tried to save them, and how many had been lost? He forced the memories back down. The War wasn't here. This was injured civilian that needed help. Reluctantly, he pulled his hands away, letting Katara do her work.

Katara turned to the person who had injured the wolf. "He'll need to be taken to the hut. Help me, so he doesn't lose consciousness here. I'
ll do the best that I can for him."

Robert nodded.

"He's already lost conciousness. We need to get going, fast." He looked the girl over. Skilled with her...water-flinging she might be, but she didn't look like she could carry a grown man.

"I'll take him." He bent down and lifted Chaucer up, grunting. This had been so much easier twenty years ago when Germans were shooting at him. He slung the man over his shoulders in a rough carry and begin making his way towards the healing hut as best he could. And to think that one time he did this at a dead run...

Katara nodded. She was going to move him with waterbending, but if he wanted to do it himself, she was more than happy to let him do it. Besides, he looked distraught enough that he'd gotten hurt to begin with.

She followed alongside him in case he needed help.
