7th-Oct-2011 06:40 pm - Slinking about [OPEN]
Sitting around and watching the ship's network wasn't achieving as much as it had done back home. There, he'd been able to keep a hand- er, cellphone -on the pulse of the city's population, and survey them without having to leave relative safety. Here, not only was he completely alone, but the population was irritatingly careful about their messaging. Cazali could have gone to get his 'information' from that Kamen Rider, but...he didn't want to seem dependent. Especially to someone who apparently knew about him. So, he had to go about gathering intel the old fashioned way- stalking.

2nd-Oct-2011 11:52 pm - A Mini-Midlife Crisis
Where to start? He had to resist the urge to pick at the little square bandage on his forehead or the stitches. Daniel put his hands on his hips, where they couldn't get anywhere near his head, and surveyed what was going to temporarily be his domain. Until he got kicked out, at least, but until then, he was determined to squat here. As makeshift archaeology labs went, he'd worked with less. It was a lot to take in; there were an impressive amount of artifacts from the dig. They probably didn't even scratch the surface of Taleen, but they'd brought back a lot anyway. The room was crowded. Practically overflowing. An archaeologist's wet dream. Maybe not Meaning of Life Stuff, but this could keep a person occupied for months. Maybe years, depending on how thoroughly you wanted to go into it.

Daniel didn't make any motion to begin on any of them. He sat down and looked at the tables.

What the hell was he even doing here? Once the excitement and rush wore off, Daniel realized how inappropriate this was. Talk about a lack of priorities. The fact that he was still thrilled about the prospect of spending a day studying them angered him at the same time as it excited him. Sha're was out there, still a host. Or maybe not, if his universe really had been destroyed. Daniel had a hard time wrapping his head around the concept. Part of him still didn't believe it was true. He wanted proof. Something besides Stacy and the Daligig's word. At the same time, having actual proof only meant that what felt like a terrible possibility became cold, hard fact. Maybe he didn't want to know. It was easier on his sanity if he could wonder if SG-1 was out there still.

And here he was, about to get arm deep in relics and a dead civilization. Like it had any bearing on what was supposed to be the most important thing. He should be trying to get back home or - or do something to help everything and everyone he ever cared about.

Sure thing, as soon as he found some good options. So far, Daniel didn't see anything better than staying on this ship. Even if he found a Stargate, it wasn't like he could abandon ship. It wasn't a matter of attachment but practicality. Where would he go? No point of origin, or maybe they were different, and even if he went back to this Earth, nothing was quite the same. It wasn't his universe. He was better off sticking with Stacy, Daniel had to admit to himself. Everything seemed to converge on her. If anything was going to come up that would help, it would more likely happen around her. That left him doing missions while he was on board, working. Maybe they'd find something on one planet, something that could helped his universe. Even with the destruction of Thor's Hammer, he had a chance to find something to help Sha're.

Daniel took a breath. He stood up. He could make himself useful until the next mission. He had a few things he wanted to study first. The mummy they brought back lay on the table. He was dying to start on it. Or there were the Goa'uld devices.

"Alright, this" Peter said as the door whooshed open, "is the Science Department. Its got everything from test-tubes, to microscopes, to things we don't actually know how to use and are frankly afraid to test."

The teenager took a seat and rifled around in the cabinets until he'd found a sterile lancet and a microscope slide.

"Okay, any questions before we get started?"
14th-May-2011 08:59 am - The Mysterious Melting Clock
It had taken a little time for Stacy to double back, and for the Melting Clock to be brought on board. Now all of them could see just what had caused such a drastic effect - the giant, metre-wide melting clock face. But now the crew had it in their hands, and they could get to the real work - trying to find a way to destroy it.

Anwei wanted a messaging laser so hard that she could taste it. A nice, simple, hand-held, low-fade messaging laser would have let her contact every ship grounded on Gondepetil in one sweep. It would let her send messages to other ships in space or the Bleed, if they had their receivers open. Just let her get through to the Vizsnunishne – somehow – and she would be on her way to finding out what was actually going on. The laser was standard equipment, really; shouldn't every ship have one?

But there was no sign of one in the Armory (or if it was there, the index wasn't showing it to her). She'd have to see if the parts were available to build it herself. Most of what she needed was in Engineering, but not everything; if she could find a precision micro-mirror array chip, she wouldn't have to make the targeting mechanisms quite so precise. And she wanted an optical linkage to the data transmission system, so she could carry information on a shielded datastore and not have it out in the open until she was ready to send.

She changed out the denim shirt she normally wore over her plantsuit for the grey jacket she had bought in Orongo; the spattering of alien text across it apparently read 'Love is a river, dive on in' but hopefully nobody would stop to read it. Then she went down to Special Weapons and started doing inventory – or rather, started searching for the parts she needed while labeling everything that she recognized on her omnicomm. She was trying to be useful, and if the search served her own purposes as well, who would be harmed?
Marco kept a close eye on Eva has he herded her into the Science Department. Kang had told him that they had a device which could scan for Yeerks - soon, he'd know for sure whether his mother was free.

He tried not to think too much on what would happen if it turned out that she wasn't.

Marco also wasn't happy about having to ask some random science geek to scan his mother, but he had to admit that he'd probably have no idea how to work the device himself anyway, so he resigned himself to looking around for someone to ask.

4th-Aug-2010 05:53 am - Ensuring Survival [Open]
[For the sake of not spamming the front page, I'm combining Alex's visit to the science and medical departments in one thread. Anyone can comment the main log if they want to run into him on his way there. If he's finding you in the departments themselves, comment the department.]

Alex really just wanted to stay in his room at the crew quarters. It was quiet and private and he could browse the comms all day, figuring out the programming.

But, he needed his pills. He could probably talk to the ship about it, though he just knew he didn't like the ship... the exact reason was escaping him though. So he had contacted science when he had noticed a post by them on the comm system. He had his pill bottle with him, as always, so that he could give a pill as a sample to someone in the science department. While they analysed that he'd make his way to the medical department, which was apparently just across the hall or something.

While actually getting the ball rolling on having some tests done was not required for immediate survival, it insured that he wouldn't be killed if when Loretta got on board. He refused to think that there was any possibility that she and Mikel would not show up. Without the government breathing down their necks, it would be far easier to find out what had been done to them. Loretta would kill him if he didn't take this chance to at least try to find out more about what they were being used as lab rats for.
