Sometimes you lose too much [Open]

Something about the river kept drawing Morgan back.

Which was odd, since he'd never considered himself to have any particular affinity to water before coming to the ship. Sure, he'd trained in it, and enjoyed swimming, but he hadn't considered his pool or a beach to be any sort of 'quiet spot' or meditative spot for himself. Then again, lacking access to his mentor's dojo, or his own personal retreats of choice, maybe he shouldn't be so surprised that he'd found a new one.

Work kept him busy, with Medical low on staff and so much to do from the rebellion. Fake as it might be, he still found himself putting in long hours and lots of effort to keep things going.

Still, sometimes... especially when you got the worst of news, you had to take a break. And you couldn't be strong forever.

Morgan sat at the edge of the river, staring into the currents, and let himself quietly cry.

Rarity nodded, remembering how she and Sweetie Belle spent the day. "She kept running all around the ship to explore as much as she could. At the end of the day, we were both so tired that we slept under the stars in the observation deck."

She smiled wistfully at the memory and added on, "Sweetie Belle is a unicorn like me but she's still a filly. White coat, green eyes, pink and light purple mane and tail."

If Morgan's mental image suffered in one respect, it was that he pictured the pony Rarity described with her elegant mane and tail stylings. "She sounds adorable," he said with a grin. Never having had a younger sister, he envied Rarity a bit. "Better that she be out for one day, and you know she's safe down in the pods, though, than always having to wonder, right? Even if it does hurt to have to say goodbye the next day..."

"I know but I think it would be best if she stayed asleep..." Rarity didn't want to expose her sister to the harsh reality of the ship. All the death, chaos and carnage could be too much for a filly to handle.

"When all this is over, we would be reunited with everypony- I mean everyone we ever knew."

"I had a friend come out on Visitation Day too... I'm glad to know she's all right." He drew up his legs, folding his arms atop his knees. "I guess I'm more sad for the people I know aren't here... and the people who were here, who are gone now, and I never will see again if we go back to our own worlds."

Rarity frowned at the thought of not seeing the friends she made on this ship ever again. "That is a dreadful idea! I do hope the technology people on this ship would be able to come up with something to keep in touch. I would hate to lose a friend like you, Morgan."

"Or magic. You'd think someone who lived on a nexus world would be a little more optimistic about finding people again," he said with a smile he couldn't suppress. It slowly grew as his thoughts proceeded. "Well, that puts it in perspective! I'm spending so much time thinking about the people I've lost for good that I'm writing off people who I haven't just because I've lost them for now!"

The unicorn smiled, "If my friend Twilight was here, she would find a way to solve all this. She would tear the ship upside down looking for information and answers."

She nodded at his last sentence, "I suppose we should be content with the people we have now and not worry so much about the future. Worrying can take away the fun and joy in things."

[morganknight]

"Both the future and the past," he said, rubbing at his face with one hand even as he smiled. "Live in neither, but dwell in the now. No, trust me, Rarity, I'm not so eager to give up our friendship that I won't look for a way to maintain it even after all this. I promise you that much."

[whining_unicorn]

Rarity gave him a smile, "That is comforting to know. I hope the Princess would welcome humans to Equestria. I would love to show you The Carousel Boutique in person. It's my pride and joy."

"And I'd love to see it -- for real, this time." The Sensorium was very realistic... but the conscious knowledge that it was an illusion never left him. "From everything I've heard, your world must be something else again!"

[whining_unicorn]

"You should see Applejack's farm. It spans for acres! Rows and rows of different kind of apple trees. There's Rainbow Dash's home in the clouds, the bakery store Pinkie Pie works at, my friend Twilight Sparkl's library and a cute little home at the edge of the woods that has every critter you can imagine owned by another friend, Fluttershy."

Rarity could go on about the countless locations in Equestria. "Enough about my home, what about yours? Are there any interesting places there?"

"Well, I own a mansion," he said with a smile. He didn't know whether Rarity was honestly thrilled to relate all this, or was just trying to cheer him up, but either way, it was working a little. "Huge and elegant. Swimming pool in the basement, a garage that holds dozens of cars..."
