Welcome, All Ye Magickians [Open]

Though he hadn't made any formal statements yet, Aibghalien made no secret of the fact that he intended to propose moving the Magic Department's headquarters to this building. As elegant and useful as the Jedi Temple was, he still had no idea what a Jedi was nor how it related to magic or the supernatural. But this building... This building was built for magic.

Already he found more and more excuses to come here, to the point that his old office and lab were practically abandoned these days. So a person who had interest in joining the department, or who simply wished to consult with him on a matter of magic, could find him there most readily, doing paperwork at his desk or examining some curious item to figure out what made it tick.

[Especially for new crew members interested in joining the department, but open to all!]

A door is unceremoniously shoved open somewhere, and the faint sound of footsteps is heard before the general peace of the area is shattered.

"Heeeey, magic guild guy! You in here?!"
dragonspooker: (Why yes I do like shiny things.)

It took a moment of figuring out the right direction for the voice source, but Lina shortly finds her way to Aibghalien.

"Not quite the place you advertised on the comm-thing."

Such architecture was unfamiliar to the Sangheili that had made his way to the Tower. Had he heard of such magic prior to his stay aboard this vessel he would have dismissed mention of it as superstition. As it was now however as Commander of the crew he needed to know just what those under his command were capable of.

Thus it was that eight foot tall alien warrior clad in his well kept combat harness ducked through the door to the Wizard's current place of study, stepping towards the wizard seemingly deep in study, "Aibghalien Marsai, I presume," He spoke up by way of greetings.

'Vadum's gaze followed that document for a brief moment before returning to Aibghalien, dipping his head the slightest in greetings once the wizard rose from his seat. "I am Rtas 'Vadum, current Commander of this vessel,"

"I will admit that I have little understanding of magic, nor would I have considered such a thing were it not for our current situation, such is the reason for my visit. I hope that I did not greatly disturb your studies" He went on with a calm if a hint of a wry tone, "To properly aid in the command of this vessel I need to know what those under my command are capable of. I wish to know the capabilities of the department and those who work with it,"
dragonspooker: (Yeah? Go on...)

"Makes sense, since this place has 'sorcery' in the name," Lina answers, looking about the room. A moment passes, then Lina sighs. "I guess I'm looking to join up. Not so sure about this war thing still, but might as well wind up where the interesting stuff is. Hope it turns out better than the food and the pay. Though that won't be a difficult task..."

OOC: Okay, I misread and thought we were in the temple, ahaha. Good job, self.
dragonspooker: (I'm a genius you see)

"It's not the amount that's the problem, the lack of something physical is my issue. Guess I can't really complain if it works, though." She shrugs, then perks up at the chance to brag on herself. "Well, I've dabbled in a little bit of all that's available - black magic, shamanism, and white magic. My specialties lie in black magic and the fire category of shamanism. I can do a little bit of magical crafting if I've got the right materials, too."
dragonspooker: (Enchanting)

"Well..." Lina starts, moving from ego mode to nerdscholar mode as she folds her arms.

"Black magic pulls power from demons and negative emotions, and has your curses and summons and a lot of stuff for dishing out a world of hurt. Shamanism is the general elemental stuff - air, earth, fire, water, and spirit. White magic pulls power from the gods, and has a lot of healing spells, effect-changing spells, and spells for dealing with evil spirits and demons. Cleric and shrine maiden stuff."
dragonspooker: (That's Professor Inverse to you!)

"Given that one of them can't even use own power 'cause he's broken apart and sealed up, but I can still blow things away with it, I'd call it indirect."

The question regarding if they worked got a slightly irritated change in expression and a frown. "I know a couple of the shamanism ones work, but I haven't had the chance to do much in the way of testing without getting reprimanded by the ship..."
shroudedintent: (Making a point)

'Vadum did not know how involved the previous Captain had been in seeing to the different department, he himself intended to know just what they were capable of and at least gain a rudimentary understanding behind the workings.

"That an energy field could exist, no, that one can manipulate it without technological aid is a separate matter entirely. Many things have been made possible via use of such technology, however none have achieved such things without technological aid. Thus it goes beyond normal understanding when one such as yourself can perform such deeds with but a gesture," He explained calmly gesturing to the book that now floated its way over to the wizard.

"So it would appear," the Sangheili Commander replied as he took the offered book from the Wizard. Turning it over in his large hands. "Laws that may well differ from universe to universe it would seem at times," he would comment before dipping his head.

"Tell me what you can then, of your own capabilities and of the capabilities of those who make up your department,"

He cast his gaze to the book before dipping his head, "Indeed? You have my thanks on this matter," He would spend some time studying the book in question once he was able.

"In regards to departmental activities, have you any projects of note currently underway?"
dragonspooker: (Don't mess with the best!)

[personal profile] dragonspooker 2012-04-15 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
That certainly got her interest piqued. "I definitely agree - I wouldn't want to wind up in a fight and waste time on an incantation that isn't gonna work!"

'Vadum nodded in acknowledgement as Aighalien spoke, noting the projects that he had mentioned, "Good work, let me know if there are any items in particular that would be of aid on the battlefield,"

"Keep me posted on the progress of the shelter defenses," They would be useful if another situation like the Shodan incident arose once more.

"That will be all for now, you have my thanks for the information. Do you have any requests of command?"
