Then I'll let you break it again and again [Open]
Diana was walking through hydroponics. With Jinx. And Provisions. Like some kind of warped, family outing.
Why?
They were having a lazy day in Jinx’s apartment, Diana watching Pro glide to and fro along the different pieces of furniture and Jinx lounging on the sofa reading one of her books, with the young bird occasionally coasting over her head to clip at her hair, much to Diana’s smug amusement and Jinx’s exasperation.
After a small period of time, Jinx put her book away and came over to see the other girl who was squatting in her apartment, expression on her face that as if she’d had a brilliant idea. Slyly, she put forward the idea that since they spent so much time together anyway, perhaps she and Diana could go on a date.
The result was Diana laughing in her face. It was a short laugh that only escaped because the question had been so unexpected, but it had swiftly drained all confidence from Jinx’s face.
Despite the fact Diana had no desire to partake in ‘dates’, especially the type that included commitment, because she had no use for that, the crushed expression on Jinx’s face as she tried pull her damaged pride back made Diana actually feel guilty.
It was at this point she realized she may be getting far too invested with Jinx and that perhaps this relationship was taking a turn into something Diana was not planning for and had been trying to steer clear of.
But if it had, it was too late to change now, she’d just have to think of some way of dealing with it later. For now though, she had to appease the girl who looked like she was about to crawl under her bed and hide from the world for a month.
So, Diana had suggested that maybe they could go for a walk together. It was still a very cheesy, romantic novel thing, which usually made Diana roll her eyes and brush the idea away, but it had certainly brought the light back into the those pink eyes.
So, now here they were.
Provisions coasting from branch to branch, exploring and strengthening his wings and flight skills, stopping to make sure the two girls were still close by and crowing for their attention when he managed a long glide. He was still incapable of true flight, but he’d certainly been coming along these past few days.
Jinx and Diana walked side by side, watching him hop and flap about. Jinx had been mostly quiet since they’d set off. Diana guessed she was still sore from the laugh. Joy.

Speaking of arms length...she cast a sideways glance at Diana before returning her cool gaze to the plants along the pathway. This walk was her booby prize. She was runner up in a contest that as far as she was aware, she was the only one in the running.
It was a stupid thing to do really. She had been struggling with the idea ever since GLaDOS forced them together before. She wasn't so obtuse to not see that Diana would have already said something if she wanted commitment.
But in an moment of temporary insanity that Jinx would blame on her lousy taste in dime story love novels she had asked her out and was shot down in a single burst of gunfire that sounded very much like condescending laughter.
She had done the same to more then a few students from the Academy, it was about time she was on this end of things.
Still Diana didn't want to lose Jinx as a...what was she really? Tool? Ally? Toy? In her current mindset Jinx felt that using the word "Friend" was being too optimistic. And so here they were, each of them pretending they really wanted to be here.

Well, Diana had her own ways of dealing with Jinx, no matter what the situation.
Provisions had managed to land a particularly tricky glide and crowed to them both for recognition. “Well done.” Diana said, in that slightly softer tone she only addressed Pro in when it was just her and Jinx. She held her hand out and he swooped over, flapping his wings at her, glowing from her praise. “Jinx would say something but she’s too busy being pouty with me.” She said, teasingly as she stroked Pro’s beak.

"I'm not pouting. You're entitled to your opinions." She argued "And I wouldn't want to make you do anything you didn't want. I couldn't even if I tried." She extended a hand to stroke Provision's feathers lightly.
no subject
"Of course, you're not." Diana countered, smug expression never leaving her face. "You're just being stubbornly quiet because you don't want to wake up the leaves."
no subject
"What would you like to talk about then." Jinx challenged knowing full well that question was opening up a whole new minefield. But since Diana NEVER talked about herself or her home life looking back on things there was only so much they could cover.

"Well maybe I'm just a little puzzled as to how I should be acting. After all we wouldn't want to give anyone the wrong idea would we?" because clearly she had had the wrong idea. It really just talking to hear herself though because she knew that Diana knew exactly what the reason was.

"How many questions do you ask that you already know the answer to?" Jinx coutnered not-so-artfully dodging around the question and lifting Pro up to a low hanging branch to let him explore the tree.
no subject
"Now, whatever makes you say that?"
Deciding that 'mommy' was just reinstating Jinx in her place among group, Provisions began a game of jumping on and gliding to all the lower limbs of the surrounding several trees.
"Maybe I actually want an answer."
Diana's eyes did not leave Jinx's as she watched her carefully, confidence clear on her face.

"We've spent more time together in the last few months then some married people. And you're one of the smartest people on board as well. So I'm sure you're already well aware of what's going through my mind right now." She was straining to keep her tone level but it seemed as though even she was reaching a limit with the games that had kept her enticed and entertained for so long.
no subject
Well, that wasn't entirely true. She still hadn't really asked the question. If Jinx wanted to start demanding answers, first she'd need to ask.
Diana raised her brow slightly to show that she was paying attention and understood what Jinx was trying to convey. She kept their gazes connected, pulling herself back enough that they were both straight backed, facing each other; the illusion of a level playing field. Nothing but an illusion.
"Why don't you ask the question, Jinx? Tell me what you want to know." If Diana was worried, or feeling any sort of apprehension at all, there was no indication of it. But was there ever? Diana was the picture of calm. "In fact, just tell me what you want."

She broke the gaze when she couldn't take anymore and made sure there weren't people around. "I wanted to go out on a date and see if there was something to this relationship or if we're just using each other. And you laughed. It's not like I was asking you to be my girlfriend or whatever."
It was horrible to be confessing like this, her entire face was red and every muscle was tense. She felt a little sick to her stomach because now she was wide open for every horrible scathing thing that could come to mind. Look at her the silly little super villain wannabe, conquered by a powerless human with some charisma and good looks. She'd never let herself live this moment down.

Diana knew, of course, that wasn't it. But now Jinx and her were inches apart, she had the girl cornered, verbally and physically, time to move in. "You need to actually ask."
no subject
"I already did. I asked you out on a date." She spoke very carefully "Because I want to see if maybe...MAYBE someday we could develop a real relationship. With all that mushy stuff you keep telling me is cheesy. And so what if it is? Is that good enough? Or do you want me to actually ask you to be my girlfriend?"
no subject
Finally, Diana's expression changed, but to one of mild exasperation. "I know. But why do you want to know if we could? This-" She gestured back and forth between herself and Jinx. "-is working. Or, at least, it was working. Why do you want be be more than what we are right now?"
Her fingers reached up to briefly brush Jinxs cheek before she put the hand on her hip. "I'm not looking for a committed relationship. I thought that was clear."

All the fight seemed to evaporate out of her leaving her looking weak enough to blow over with a paper fan. "I don't know...I wasn't even thinking about it that much when I asked you out. But when you laughed suddenly all of that just came...rushing in!" She gestured with exasperation. "And I knew it was stupid because you've always been VERY clear about this not being committed. Maybe I got greedy I don't know." I a vain attempt to clear her head she turned on her heel she and took a few steps away.
"I don't even really know anything about you other then what little bits you let me see."

It was at this moment, Provisions suddenly let out a loud 'craw' and jumped off the branch he'd been roosting on. But instead of gliding his way to the next branch or coasting over to the two of them, he began beating his large deep blue and black wings. With this, he was able to adjust his altitude and maintain his height, altering his speed as he flew in a large circle around them, serving through trees and avoiding branches, un-reliant on anything but his own wings to defy gravity.
After several laps, he swooped towards them, using his tail correctly to make an accurate landing upon Diana's shoulder, where he stood himself tall, turning his head this way and that, looking very proud.
Diana stared at him, rather surprised, enough so to actually let it show without releasing it. "He flew."
no subject
"What a clever boy!" She cooed.

The young bird had fluffed up his chest feathers at Jinx's recognition and was now looking back at Diana.
He'd flown.
This creature that she'd found in her room, this once small, breakable pink collection of pin thin bones and almost transparent skin had actually grown. It had sprouted feathers. And now it was flying.
This thing that cried for her attention, her food, her protection, her care and had followed her at almost every moment of everyday had suddenly laughed in the face of gravity.
And now he was looking at her for a reaction.
Diana wasn't entirely sure what she was feeling right now, or if she even wanted to be feeling it. But she gave a small smile, gently grabbing his beak in her hand and shaking it playfully and softly as he gurgled happily.
"Good boy, well done."
no subject
"Guess all that practice really paid of." She mused with a twinkle in he eye.

"Now your hair will never be safe."

A moment of courage, steeling herself and as Pro finished his snack she took Diana's hand in her clean none. "Come on then, let's go find some not exploded fruit." leading her and Pro further down the path and away from where the confrontation had taken place. Thank the gods for Provisions little performance.
