Less than an hour after the ship leaves Agrestic's orbit, an announcement is broadcast throughout Stacy.

|| Attention, crew. Your crewmates, Howard Bassem and Charles Merriman, have been apprehended attempting to desert. They will now be given Punishment. According to established guidelines, you are all requested to report to the Observation to witness the Punishment. Attendance is not mandatory, but highly suggested. This will serve as a reminder of the consequences of treason and desertion. ||

On the observation deck, Archon Yavek, Archite Rekkti, two other Daligig and a handful of Kessek soldiers stand outside a spherical force field. Inside the bubble, Orc and Howard are suspended by tentacles looping around their wrists. Orc's ceased thrashing around and struggling against his restraints; rust-colored fissures have developed around his shoulders and forearms from the strain, but now he simply hangs there, looking defeated. Howard's nose is bleeding, and every time a drop falls to the bottom of the forcefield there's a small sizzle. He's weeping and begging the Daligig with every plea possible, but they act as if they aren't listening. Instead, they wait for an audience.

One Kessek aims a body blow at Jaime's torso. Another grabs Jaime's ankle and tries to slam him to the ground.

Two on one isn't fair at all. Still, Jaime does his his best. He deflects on the oncoming body blow and retaliates with a smart right-hook directly into the Kessek's face, his fist reforming into some sort of alien battering ram. And then he's snapped backwards as the other Kessek hurls him into the ground.


"Ow." He wheezes the word as he clambers to his feet and gets ready to go in again.

The first Kessek barely gives him a chance to get to his feet before they're attempting to tackle him to the ground again. The one Jaime punched in the face follows in short time.

Jaime reacts, one hand coming up to throw out a forcefield that will serve to deflect the two Kessek for a moment. And then he follows after with flurry of blows as he pounces at the nearest one, teeth gritted. He has a broken rib, he's sure. And that ankle the Kessek grabbed is only working because Khaji is telling his body it should. Jaime can't feel it, which means Khaji has probably shut off the nerves so he can keep fighting. The Kessek definitely aren't pushovers and here, on the Obs Deck, he can't let himself go and fight them with the force they require. Too much risk of other people getting hurt. Punch drunk, like a boxer, he sways, smashes his fist into a Kessek's face, and keeps going.

He's the Blue Beetle and no innocents will be hurt today as long as he can function.

Both the Kessek and Jaime are going to end up unleashing fatal blows soon enough. Stacy can't be having that. Tentacles whip out of the walls and restrain the Kessek and Jaime, pumping Jaime full of sedative. The Kessek, for their part, do not find the restraints.
