Celena had been moving at a near non-stop pace for the last few weeks, when the shore leave had rocked around she had increased the pace again, dividing some of her time away from the reconstruction to collect a significant amount of supplies from the planet below as well as to monitor the situation with the potential rebellion.

Now however she was focused on the opportunity that she had been waiting for, the initiation of the Gateway network that would aid with transportation throughout the ship. At that current moment she looked over each of the ten gates that would form the initial network, checking over each gateway device in turn. Each device looking near identical to her initial Gateway pair, the smooth grey base plates inlaid with the crystals that would power them. The gate crystals of each spinning idly in a tight vertical circle above an indentation in the base plate below. To the right of each a holographic display panel projected from a raised pillar off to the side of the base showed the status of each of gate in question, and once connected would allow crew members to select the gate to which they wished to travel.

With checks underway she waited for others to show up and to wait for Rhiow, ready to assist with the construction of the Catenary should she be required.

"The idea for both the paired Gateway device and now the Gateway network were of my own ideas, they were however based originally off similar devices that my own people make use of," Celena cast a gaze out across the gates in question.

"They will, I hope, provide a stable and rapid manner of transport throughout the ship, whether of individuals or the even the transport of supplies,"

"I think its a great idea!" Kaya said, smiling. "It would make it much easier for people to get from place to place, and we might even be able to unravel new mysteries about her."

Specifically, she was thinking about a certain ghost phantom who had yet to be found.

"How can I help?"

"Thank you," Celena dipped her head with a smile, "Quite so, the idea had initially come to me as a way of evacuating those in need on the field of battle and in other situations, from that though I saw that it could be quite useful here as well,"

She pondered a moment, "With a portable gate that could be possible as well, to be able to take it further into unexplored regions while maintaining the ability to return swiftly,"

"If you could watch the three gates there, keep an eye on the readouts for the moment, the power levels of those should rise shortly, let me know if any of them seem to remain unstable,"

"That makes sense," Kaya said. "Now things like medical supplies and food and all will be able to be transported much more easily, not to mention if we have another one of those strange situations that happen on the ship."

Kaya nodded eagerly. "I'll let you know! Go ahead and check the readouts!"

Celena dipped her head at that, "That was my main thought with such, being able to easily transport when such situations might arise, whether it be people or supplies,"

She nodded and with a smile as she checked the readouts even as the three gates in question began to be woven into the network.

"It'll definitely come in handy for the coming time, I think," Kaya said. "I know we needed to transport things before, but with all that's going on now, i think we'll be very much dependent on that kind of technology now. Thing have definitely gotten to where people are going to need to really now the ins and outs of the ship."

She watched Celena at her work. "How's it looking?"

"Indeed, that is quite possible, and put less reliance on the the ship's own transportation systems in addition," Celena nodded in agreement, "It could well help with that manner indeed, these ones will be less portable however, I shall be constructing a portable one for this network however,"

"Looks like they are stabilizing for now, good, they've been woven into the network successfully it would seem, still yet to test an actual gate connection however,"

"So to test it out, you'd need to have someone try to be transported?" Kaya asked. "Or something, anyway. How small or big are we talking about/"

"Indeed that would be the best way to test, to send an object or person through the gate," She dipped her head with a smile, "As small as needed or to a reasonably large interface, though not enough for large vehicles,"

An object or a person. Now came the next question, although even as she was waiting for the answer, she had already decided on what she was going to say next.

And she bet Celena knew it too.

"Where would the person or thing end up?"

Celena gave a tilt of her head at the question, it was one she well knew the answer to, "The person or object would travel through the gate and out of the connected gate, assuming the link is successful,"

With a few taps on the control panel she began the process of forming a gate connection to one of the three that Kaya stood by, the ring of crystals of both gates spinning in unison before they began to glow as the portal interface was formed. When it was complete a moment later Kaya would be able to peer through the gate in question and see Celena where she stood by the other as if there was no space between the gates.

"Oh well, of course," Kaya said, feeling silly since she assumed that the gates were already interspersed elsewhere on the ship. So far, though, it looked as if it were going very well: she could see Celena pretty clearly, and grinned.

"If you don't have any objections, I wouldn't mind helping you test this out!"

"Indeed, once these are completed and tested fully they'll be distributed to their positions about the ship," she replied with a dip of her head, smiling on back through the portal.

Checking over the readings once more, "It looks to be a stable connection, I've no objections, step on through if you wish,"

So it was coming along, just as Billy said! She hadn't known that they'd gotten this far, but she was pretty pleased to hear that they were close enough to having a way to get to each other so much faster now.

Maybe one day Billy would actually teach her how that worked in the first place.

"All right," Kaya said, smoothing her plansuit down, looking through the first gate. She took a breath, exhaled, and then walked through the gate in front of her.

Indeed as long as the tests and connections went smoothly and successfully the portal network would be up and running for all the crew to use.

Celena looked to her through the gate with a smile as she walked on through, checking the readings as she did, the portal held steady and for Kaya stepping through it would feel no different than simply stepping through the threshold of a doorway, such was the way the gates were connected.

Kaya smiled. It looked as if, provided all went well, that the portal transference would be successful! It had been a bit of a nervous step for her, and likely might have led to pretty bad consequences had Celena not taken all precautions, but just like the bathhouse, Celena knew her stuff!

"Amazing!" Kaya breathed. "I don't think it felt any different from walking through a door! You're biggest obstacle will probably be people just scared of the kind of technology to do it. They might think they'll lose body parts or something."

Celena dipped her head with a warm smile, "Thank you, and indeed such is the way that the portal joins one point of space to another so that it basically is forming a doorway between the two," she replied with something of a grin.

"That is true, introducing such a vast crew to a new form of technology is always an obstacle, however I have included failsafes and other measures to ensure that even if they go down there is no risk of losing body parts, indeed one is merely deposited one side or the other intact,"
