What is Love? [Valentine's Date Event]

It's shaping up to be another average day on the Transmigration 9. Crew members are going about their business as usual and all is (to most appearances, at least) about as "well" as things ever are on the ship.

Some crew members are going to be stopped out of the blue by impact with a force field.

"Attention Crewmen: You have been chosen to participate in an experiment!" GLaDOS's voice informs. They're not alone, someone else that was nearby is also caught within the same narrow radius. "Participation is mandatory. Please try to relax and enjoy the experience, as this will improve the quality of the test results."

Clearly this is going to be a wonderful day for science.

"You and your new scientific partner are now on a date," GLaDOS goes on. "As it would be detrimental to our study of the date experience if you were to be separated, you must remain close to your partner for the duration of the experiment. This will be enforced with the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field. Prolonged exposure to the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field may have unexpected side-effects. While any side-effects encountered will be documented and your desire to offer yourself to science is commendable, it is not a necessary part of this experiment."

"You will be informed when the test has been completed. We would like to thank you in advance for your full cooperation in the experiment and failure to attempt to foil it in any way."

"The experiment has begun, so you may begin dating."

[OOC: The exact details of your characters' confinement are up to players' discretion. Being trapped in a sensorium or other stationary place is a possibility, as is being stuck in a sort of roving invisible force field hamster ball that only affects the two of you. How far partners can move apart is probably subject to whatever's fun but they ideally shouldn't be able to sit on opposite sides of a room ignoring one another the whole time.

ICly the "test" lasts for a few hours and you are free to godmode GLaDOS telling them the experiment is finished.

"Yeah, but I meant actual real..." Mindy trailed off, sighing. "Well whatever, I bet they wouldn't have let me do that anyway. She took the pint from Ruff's hand and drank it down, stopping halfway and wiping her mouth. "You know its good when it tastes like crap!"

Ruff snorted in laughter. "You've been spoiled by sugar drinks. That's the best grog we have in town!" Which...being Berk still didn't speak much to it's flavor. But it was strong and that was important. Feeling warm in the chilly nights.

"Beer is still not tasting good anyway," Mindy said, taking a drink. "I dunno why, but it always tastes like ass to me. I don't get why people love it so much."

That didn't seem to stop her from clearing a pint, apparently.

"Probably the same reason you're drinking it even if you don't like the taste." Ruff pointed out with a chuckle.

"Come on what's something you used to love to do back home? Something you don't get to do on Stacy." She offered thoughtfully.

"I'd drinking it because we're going to get drunk together, duh," Mindy said, laughing. "But at least the moment we leave that will go away. Besides, there are a lot of things I do that isn't typical anyway."

Mindy screwed up her face in thought. "Actually, I've never just gotten to sit and eat junk food and laugh at movies: always busy. I'm told the Outsiders used to do that, but I guess its been too busy these days. It was something me and dad would do together, you know?"

"Well if it's not ya know, something you only wanna do with him..." Ruff offered being careful around the subject of Mindy's father. She knew it was a sensitive topic for the brash and outspoken young anti-hero so she had learned to approach with caution.

She noticed, and actually, she really did appreciate how Ruffnut was at least trying to make sure that it didn't rub her in the wrong way.

"He's gone Ruffnut, and nothing I can do will get him back." She took another long drink, wiping her mouth. "As it was, Stacy shouldn't have brought him back. It was a reminder that I can't walk through the ship holding onto the past. Now is now, and I should enjoy any slow moment I have. So yeah. Anything I get to do with you is something that will make me happy."

A part of Ruffnut was screaming silently that she had brought the mood to a crashing halt. How could she save the moment after leading it down this dark road!?

Without warning she leaned in and locked lips with Minndy. She could still taste the ale on her lips.

Aw Ruffnut. That was actually Mindy trying to put a positive spin on things. If you were that determined to make the mood lighter though, she wasn't going to complain. The kiss was returned, and consequently she could also taste beer on Ruff's mouth.

She did bring her arms closer around her girlfriend though.

They stayed like that for awhile while the moon rose over the ocean, a kiss here, some cuddling there. Talk wasn't needed when you were holding onto someone you loved. And Ruffnut was content to see just how long she could stay relaxed like this. Blissful.

This was good for her: of all the things Mindy did, including that cafe, this was where she felt the most natural, where she didn't have to blur the hero and the girl, where she could just be herself. How long had it been since she allowed that for herself?

At the moment, in Ruff's lap and leaning on her shoulder, she remembered what they talked about earlier. "How about that swim?"

"Oh? You really sure?" She smirked wickedly. Without warning she stood up scooping up Mindy and took off running. The world shifted around them to show a cliff and without breaking stride the blond viking pitched them both off it plummeting into the ocean from several stories up. The water was to say the least, shockingly cold.

"Yea-hey!" Damn it, she caught her unawares! And now the place changed and HOLY SHIT THEY THEY GOING OFF A CLIFF SHIT SHIT.

Splash.

Mindy hit the surface sputtering and uttering curses between shivering. Because even someone as seasoned as her is not expecting freezing cold out of nowhere.

Ruffnut surfaced and was laughing as she bobbed about in the salty surf "WHOOOO! Now THAT'LL wake you up!" She declared and paddled about gleefully. Cliff diving was one of the most thrilling risks Berk had to offer other then Dragon slaying.

"Among other things!" Mindy said, spitting out a mouthful of water. "I kinda thought we were going to ease into it!"

She grinned in spite of herself. This was so something Ruffnut would do, and one of those reasons she really liked her so much. Ruffnut was a spark of energy, and always had this way of challenging her.

"Think fast!" She shot water at Ruffnut through the palms in her fingers.

Ruff took the shot right between the eyes and laughed slapping the water hard to splash back. "That's your department!" She teased.

Mindy splashed a little harder, drenching the girl. "Well now I'm not doing the thinking, so its your turn! Show me what you got!"

Ruff laughed in fierce opposition and slapped the water again counting the tiny water war. It wasn't particularly well thought out but she was beyond caring.

"ATTACK FROM ABOVE!" Yes, somehow, Mindy had managed to disappear in the water, find a high enough rocky precipice and was able to HURL herself at the unsuspecting viking, making by far the biggest splash of all.

Ruff was blasted out of the water like a depth charge had been ignited under her sending her head over heels before belly flopping back into the water with a loud SLAP!

Mindy watched her soar up in the air and then fall with a loud slap, wincing but grinning all the same. She paddled over to Ruffnut, waiting until the girl finally surfaced.

"Ok, before we continue I did...sorta...get you something, all right?"

Ruff blinked ocean water out of her eyes. "Really?" She lit up even more, "Aw I didn't get you anything!" Of course this date had been rather impromtu but it seemed like Mindy was always spoiling her and taking care of her.

Mindy rolled her eyes. "So? You have plenty of shit to think about, don't worry about getting me everything all the time! I just saw this and thought of you, so I got it. If anything, maybe its me being the fucking weird one. Whatever."

This was Mindy's way of trying to say Its ok Ruffnut, I just really wanted to make you happy. Good luck getting her to say it exactly that way though.

She had already paddled onto shore, and then came back in the water, showing Ruffnut this.

"It's something you wear around your ankle," she said, looking suddenly very interested in the water. "I saw it and I thought of you. Everyone thinks you're just a dumb viking, or underestimates you. So...like this anklet's not able to be seen by everyone, no one can see all the pretty stuff you have, they have to actually really look for it."

She didn't think Ruffnut was dumb, but if people were stupid enough to think that, their loss.

Ruffnut followed her to shore, and was so stunned she even forgot she was supposed to be wet and was instantly dry.

"I...wow..." She stared at the little trinket taking it delicately. Her face red, "No ones ever given me something like this before..." All the gifts she had gotten before were functional. This was purely for looks and sentiment.

Before Mindy could question her choice Ruff gave her an uncharacteristically soft kiss that hung on and drug out long and quiet.

"I wanted you to have something that wasn't just another shield or sword. I know you like those things, but this needed to be special, something that only you and I can know about. You know what I mean?"

Evidently she did, because she was swept in a long, soft kiss she returned, arms wrapping around the taller girl's back. Apparently GLADOS's experiment was going in well. She had no idea if they could leave or not, and frankly she didn't care. She just wanted to stay like this, with Ruffnut, a long time.
