What is Love? [Valentine's Date Event]

It's shaping up to be another average day on the Transmigration 9. Crew members are going about their business as usual and all is (to most appearances, at least) about as "well" as things ever are on the ship.

Some crew members are going to be stopped out of the blue by impact with a force field.

"Attention Crewmen: You have been chosen to participate in an experiment!" GLaDOS's voice informs. They're not alone, someone else that was nearby is also caught within the same narrow radius. "Participation is mandatory. Please try to relax and enjoy the experience, as this will improve the quality of the test results."

Clearly this is going to be a wonderful day for science.

"You and your new scientific partner are now on a date," GLaDOS goes on. "As it would be detrimental to our study of the date experience if you were to be separated, you must remain close to your partner for the duration of the experiment. This will be enforced with the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field. Prolonged exposure to the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field may have unexpected side-effects. While any side-effects encountered will be documented and your desire to offer yourself to science is commendable, it is not a necessary part of this experiment."

"You will be informed when the test has been completed. We would like to thank you in advance for your full cooperation in the experiment and failure to attempt to foil it in any way."

"The experiment has begun, so you may begin dating."

[OOC: The exact details of your characters' confinement are up to players' discretion. Being trapped in a sensorium or other stationary place is a possibility, as is being stuck in a sort of roving invisible force field hamster ball that only affects the two of you. How far partners can move apart is probably subject to whatever's fun but they ideally shouldn't be able to sit on opposite sides of a room ignoring one another the whole time.

ICly the "test" lasts for a few hours and you are free to godmode GLaDOS telling them the experiment is finished.

"Yeah so...what do you think about what's happening on the ship? You know, the random hysteria, the plots, the eventual rebellion and shit. Things were getting pretty heated in a debate I popped over to last Council meeting."

She had her hands wrapped around Ruffnut's though. "I know it sounds annoying, but this is the kinda shit we will have to think about when we become demons ourselves."

Ruffnut shrugged, "I never liked those stuffy alien jerks anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to screw us somehow." And she hadn't looked so close at the why or the how. Mob mentality was very popular with vikings.

She squeezed the hand and brought it to her lips or a kiss. "I guess so, but it still seems like it wouldn't be a huge deal. Maybe more trouble then it's worth. But if you think it's important I'll do it."

"I wasn't really sure what to think of them at first," Mindy said honestly. "Truthfully, I've been hoping all the people suspecting them was wrong: I didn't want to go have to fight another war with another species, not when the Ohm were going to be hard enough to begin with."

She flushed a little, tugging Ruff's braid. "Anything worth having is more trouble than its worth. If it isn't, then it was too easy. Anyone can go and lay siege to lands and oppress people. But that always leads to people fighting against you. I should know: people were running things crooked in my world, and we had to stop them, even though doing that is against the law."

That gave Ruffnut a pause "But...um...aren't we as overlords supposed to ya know, be crooked. Fight dirty all that stuff?" Zetta had never specifically said oppress people but it was thought.

"As Overlord we fight dirty against our enemies. I'm not going to have any problem doing that, trust me. But when it comes to people and stuff, you generally want to make them love and fear you, so your enemies aren't swayed to join them."

Not that she wouldn't put down any rebellions, of course.

"You know, if you were back on Berk Hiccup would be in trouble. You're younger then him but you have like, a lifetime of tactics in here." She tapped Mindy's forehead playfully. "You'd be chief in no time." She teased.

"Well its kinda funny isn't it? The stuff I'm able to do in my world I'd go to jail or be sent to a psychiatrist for would be a good thing on Berk. But Hiccup is smart, from what I saw. That's something Berk needs."

And something SHE needed too, but she wasn't going to admit that aloud.

"Anyway, I want more than just a village, you know that."

"You're smart too. Maybe even smarter about tactics and fighting." Ruffnut argued her eyes closed breathing deep and slow utterly relaxed.

"Of course you'll have more then a village I'm just sayin'."

"I'm getting there," Mindy said, making sure to clarify that. "That doesn't mean I'm there just yet. You see how this place is, right? Someone knows a little of this shit, has that power, and it works for whatever department they work for. You and me, we gotta have it all down: brains, brawn, tactics, a little bit of magic where we can use it. In the end though, it'll be worth it."

She grinned. "Damn right, but I wouldn't be against recreating Berk for you. It's a pretty nice place."

Her face wrinkled up, "Don't say it like that, it makes it sound like work instead of fun." She opened an eye to smirk at her. "The fun is the biggest reason I do all of this. It feels great!"

"There's always some work you dumbass," Mindy said, making a face. "Fun comes when people get in your way. Then you get to figure out how to get them to go crying home to their mom...IF you feel like letting them live."

"But the work can be fun too." Ruff protested flicking some grass at her partner. But she smiled wickedly "Letting them live. I love when you talk all badass like that."

"Its about making sure people know where you stand," Mindy replied. "No way you have that happen without taking down all the people you need to. It has to happen one way or another. So I figure you might as well get used to it. I aim to take people down anyway that I can."

Oh, she can show mercy, but THEY didn't have to know that, and only if she chose to do it.

"I almost wish I knew what normal girls from your time do for fun just so I'd have even more to compare how awesome you are with." Ruff commented idly already hearing the battle tactics speech coming.

"You and me both," Mindy said. "I was never like other normal girls, and I didn't even get to find out how I'd even fit in once I went to school. For all I know, I could have been trolled the instant I got there. Doubt it matters though. Its not really a life I can comprehend anyomore. Fighting just seems to be in my blood, you know?"

"It's better this way. I like you more then other girls." Ruff stated plainly though it really didn't need to be said. "You were just born in the wrong time is all.

"Nah, I don't think that," Mindy said. "If I hadn't been born at this time in this situation, I might have been different. I just think me being a girly girl and being normal wasn't meant for me. I guess its fun to imagine if I had been, but that just didn't happen. It's fine."

She shrugged. "Hey, what was the next thing we were gonna do again?"

"I think drinking was involved." And just like that she had a mug of grog in her hand. She smiled cheerfully and offered it to Mindy. She'd lost track of what they were planning on doing.

"Yeah, but I meant actual real..." Mindy trailed off, sighing. "Well whatever, I bet they wouldn't have let me do that anyway. She took the pint from Ruff's hand and drank it down, stopping halfway and wiping her mouth. "You know its good when it tastes like crap!"

Ruff snorted in laughter. "You've been spoiled by sugar drinks. That's the best grog we have in town!" Which...being Berk still didn't speak much to it's flavor. But it was strong and that was important. Feeling warm in the chilly nights.

"Beer is still not tasting good anyway," Mindy said, taking a drink. "I dunno why, but it always tastes like ass to me. I don't get why people love it so much."

That didn't seem to stop her from clearing a pint, apparently.

"Probably the same reason you're drinking it even if you don't like the taste." Ruff pointed out with a chuckle.

"Come on what's something you used to love to do back home? Something you don't get to do on Stacy." She offered thoughtfully.

"I'd drinking it because we're going to get drunk together, duh," Mindy said, laughing. "But at least the moment we leave that will go away. Besides, there are a lot of things I do that isn't typical anyway."

Mindy screwed up her face in thought. "Actually, I've never just gotten to sit and eat junk food and laugh at movies: always busy. I'm told the Outsiders used to do that, but I guess its been too busy these days. It was something me and dad would do together, you know?"

"Well if it's not ya know, something you only wanna do with him..." Ruff offered being careful around the subject of Mindy's father. She knew it was a sensitive topic for the brash and outspoken young anti-hero so she had learned to approach with caution.

She noticed, and actually, she really did appreciate how Ruffnut was at least trying to make sure that it didn't rub her in the wrong way.

"He's gone Ruffnut, and nothing I can do will get him back." She took another long drink, wiping her mouth. "As it was, Stacy shouldn't have brought him back. It was a reminder that I can't walk through the ship holding onto the past. Now is now, and I should enjoy any slow moment I have. So yeah. Anything I get to do with you is something that will make me happy."
