What is Love? [Valentine's Date Event]

It's shaping up to be another average day on the Transmigration 9. Crew members are going about their business as usual and all is (to most appearances, at least) about as "well" as things ever are on the ship.

Some crew members are going to be stopped out of the blue by impact with a force field.

"Attention Crewmen: You have been chosen to participate in an experiment!" GLaDOS's voice informs. They're not alone, someone else that was nearby is also caught within the same narrow radius. "Participation is mandatory. Please try to relax and enjoy the experience, as this will improve the quality of the test results."

Clearly this is going to be a wonderful day for science.

"You and your new scientific partner are now on a date," GLaDOS goes on. "As it would be detrimental to our study of the date experience if you were to be separated, you must remain close to your partner for the duration of the experiment. This will be enforced with the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field. Prolonged exposure to the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field may have unexpected side-effects. While any side-effects encountered will be documented and your desire to offer yourself to science is commendable, it is not a necessary part of this experiment."

"You will be informed when the test has been completed. We would like to thank you in advance for your full cooperation in the experiment and failure to attempt to foil it in any way."

"The experiment has begun, so you may begin dating."

[OOC: The exact details of your characters' confinement are up to players' discretion. Being trapped in a sensorium or other stationary place is a possibility, as is being stuck in a sort of roving invisible force field hamster ball that only affects the two of you. How far partners can move apart is probably subject to whatever's fun but they ideally shouldn't be able to sit on opposite sides of a room ignoring one another the whole time.

ICly the "test" lasts for a few hours and you are free to godmode GLaDOS telling them the experiment is finished.

"Yeah, or they could be so threatened by two overlords gathering together they try to take us down. Dude, if you and I want to cap on this Overlord thing, we have to make them respect us by our own rights. When they fear us as individuals, we'll be awesome enough, but the less they understand about what we do, the more we have the element of surprise."

She thought a LOT about this.

Clearly.

Ruffnut may have given Mindy a hard time in the past about her overthinking things or having little obsessions but she respected her opinion and nodded, "Alright I'll kick your ass so people know we're the really deal in public." That part was still teasing.

Mindy grinned. "Hey, I expect you to get tons better, because if you don't give me a good enough fight I'm going to have to take all your territory away from you!"

She was joking-mostly. "Anyway, that's not going to be for awhile, so who cares? Let's enjoy this time, you and me."

Mindy was already hiking up a few hills pretty easily, dirty and smudged but grinning all the way.

"Pft You wish. My Territory is gonna be THREE TIMES as big as yours." She declared proudly.

They reached the top of the hill and could gazed out over the ocean with viking ships dotting the dark blue world spread out below.

"Everything seems so much smaller after ya know...space." Ruffnut mused thoughtfully.

"For however long I let you hold onto it!" Mindy shot back, grinning. Yes, girlfriends they were, but Mindy's competitive streak and need to push things always had a way of showing itself. In this case, she wanted to see how the two of them would fare against each other as Overlords.

Once they were on top of the hill though, there was very little need for postering. In fact, as Ruffnut mused, Mindy put an arm around her waist and laid her head on her shoulder a moment.

"That's the risk you take, when you go to see the world," she said. "You get to see exactly how big it is."

"Just means we gotta get bigger I guess." She spoke idly, like even she wasn't sure what she meant by it. But it sounded good. And having Mindy right there felt good. it felt great actually.

"Something like that," Mindy said, "Or make it so the universe has a spot for us in it. I want to be an Overlord, Ruff, one of the strongest, and make a world worth living in."

It was a quiet, heavy though, especially for someone like Mindy, Granted, there was a lot in what she said that was unsaid.

"But when that happens, I want you there, every step of the way."

"Of course." Ruffnut just agreed, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I can't let you have all that fun by yourself." She grinned wickedly.

Leaning in she whispered in Mindy's ear "Come on, show me what it'll look like. Your world worth living in."

"I love how you say 'of course' like its the easiest fucking thing in the world," Mindy said, rolling her eyes, but grinning. "Just do your best to stay alive, ok?"

At the prompt, she snickered. "So you were getting over the hiking thing already? Fine, but don't say that I didn't warn you."

The scenery changed: now they were looking over a horizon, the color an orange red. Before them was a rolling cityscape that seemed to be inhabited by demons and humans, both in uniforms. There also seemed to be a few other strange creatures here and there, including a section that seemed to be inhabited only by ponies. In the center of all of this was a grand arena that looked like this, only the flags had the symbol of a purple mask with a viking helmet. Overlooking everything, high on the throne, was, of course, demon Mindy.

Ruffnut wanted to protest that she wasn't "over" hiking and was just acting on whims as usual, but she let the protest fall away as Mindy transformed their world.

"I wonder if this is how other people have dates." She smirked amused as she gazed out in amazement at the lengths of Mindy's imagination.

That was OK with Mindy. Above came the roars of dragons: it looked as if demon Hit girl preferred them here, over head, and there was one right beside her very throne, looking only a little docile in its masters presence. Demon Mindy, meanwhile, looked impassive, awaiting news of her latest acquisition.

"Your highness! The irrepressible Lash is formally challenging you for a duel for the sake of the Kaliqs islands! It arrived today!"

The Demon girl flexed her arms, a malevolent grin and, hidden somewhere, the smile of a little girl. "Excellent. It's been a long time since I fought the likes of her. And the status of the viking demon in the North?"

"You mean Ruffnut, your w-"

But he was exterminated instantly with only a casual flick of her wrist, and her eyes were still looking impassive. "Let's not make that mistake again with any of you, ok?"

And the dream faded, and Mindy was back again.

Ruffnut was laughing hard at the fate of the demon and Mindy's strength. "Alright, that WAS pretty awesome." She admitted flopping down into the cool grass of Berk once more. "I still don't get why we can't be a united front though." Sorry Mindy. Your Girlfriend is almost as stubborn as you are.

"It hasn't been done before," Mindy said simply. "So if we were united, it'd be pretty noticeable. If we were attacked, they'd expect us together, and plan ahead of time for that. Eventually, we'll be strong enough where it won't matter, but it'll be a long time. But who knows? Maybe things will change where that won't even matter."

She laid her head on Ruffnut's chest. "You know, we're not hiking so much as we're just lying here together."

Not that she minded.

"I'm good with that if you are." She offered scooting closer and slipping an arm under her own head.

"Whatever," Mindy said, but huddled closer to Ruffnut. "We still have two more other things to do and get all active about anyway. We can be motivated and productive then. This...this is just nice, you know?"

"Yep, this is our date so we can take our sweet sweet time." She agreed setting her helmet aside.

She'd already forgotten that this was a GLADoS imposed date.

"Yeah so...what do you think about what's happening on the ship? You know, the random hysteria, the plots, the eventual rebellion and shit. Things were getting pretty heated in a debate I popped over to last Council meeting."

She had her hands wrapped around Ruffnut's though. "I know it sounds annoying, but this is the kinda shit we will have to think about when we become demons ourselves."

Ruffnut shrugged, "I never liked those stuffy alien jerks anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to screw us somehow." And she hadn't looked so close at the why or the how. Mob mentality was very popular with vikings.

She squeezed the hand and brought it to her lips or a kiss. "I guess so, but it still seems like it wouldn't be a huge deal. Maybe more trouble then it's worth. But if you think it's important I'll do it."

"I wasn't really sure what to think of them at first," Mindy said honestly. "Truthfully, I've been hoping all the people suspecting them was wrong: I didn't want to go have to fight another war with another species, not when the Ohm were going to be hard enough to begin with."

She flushed a little, tugging Ruff's braid. "Anything worth having is more trouble than its worth. If it isn't, then it was too easy. Anyone can go and lay siege to lands and oppress people. But that always leads to people fighting against you. I should know: people were running things crooked in my world, and we had to stop them, even though doing that is against the law."

That gave Ruffnut a pause "But...um...aren't we as overlords supposed to ya know, be crooked. Fight dirty all that stuff?" Zetta had never specifically said oppress people but it was thought.

"As Overlord we fight dirty against our enemies. I'm not going to have any problem doing that, trust me. But when it comes to people and stuff, you generally want to make them love and fear you, so your enemies aren't swayed to join them."

Not that she wouldn't put down any rebellions, of course.

"You know, if you were back on Berk Hiccup would be in trouble. You're younger then him but you have like, a lifetime of tactics in here." She tapped Mindy's forehead playfully. "You'd be chief in no time." She teased.

"Well its kinda funny isn't it? The stuff I'm able to do in my world I'd go to jail or be sent to a psychiatrist for would be a good thing on Berk. But Hiccup is smart, from what I saw. That's something Berk needs."

And something SHE needed too, but she wasn't going to admit that aloud.

"Anyway, I want more than just a village, you know that."

"You're smart too. Maybe even smarter about tactics and fighting." Ruffnut argued her eyes closed breathing deep and slow utterly relaxed.

"Of course you'll have more then a village I'm just sayin'."

"I'm getting there," Mindy said, making sure to clarify that. "That doesn't mean I'm there just yet. You see how this place is, right? Someone knows a little of this shit, has that power, and it works for whatever department they work for. You and me, we gotta have it all down: brains, brawn, tactics, a little bit of magic where we can use it. In the end though, it'll be worth it."

She grinned. "Damn right, but I wouldn't be against recreating Berk for you. It's a pretty nice place."
