Natural Mother [Open]
Within a school, despite the bad reputation for what is actually served there, cafeterias are a popular gathering place for almost all students, for Transmigration Nine however, this is not the case. In fact, this cafeteria had an even worse reputation for what was dispensed here and due the the fact the crew was not contained to a school and had other places they could freely be, they felt no need to force themselves to sit infront of a pile of grey, unidentifiable slop and chat when they had their own rooms, or better yet, a bar to kill their free time at.
Yet, this was where Diana could be found, sat on an empty table (though, to be fair, the vast majority of the tables were empty), with a trey of the glop sat infront of her, with two spoons sticking out of it. Her table seemed to have been picked at random, yes, it was close to the food dispenser, but not as close as it could be, and neither in the center or right at the sides.
Despite this, it would not be her singularity (which she seemed rather at ease with) that would draw your attention to her, nor her very attractive appearance.
No. Instead it would be that strange, croaking noise coming from her hands that are resting upon the table.
Diana takes one of her hands away to pick up one of the spoons, and sheltered underneath the remaining hand there's very young baby bird. Just hatched it seems. Rather ugly looking thing to be honest. All pink and skinny, with a neck that seems like it'll snap any second, and with no feathers whatsoever, just stubby little fleshy appendages that are supposed to grow into wings someday.
Its eyes aren't open, there's just these grey slabs where the eyes should be and lined with yellow beak is a gaping red mouth (the only colourful part of the creature really) which opens and shut periodically as it makes the croaking cry for food.
The only break between those cries is when Diana spoons some of the gray slop and presses it into the raw read hole, forcing the tiny creature to gulp down the strange sustenance before resuming its demands.
It's rather jarring, seeing this gross but fragile looking creature manhandled by such a pretty young girl. And just to add to the oddness of it all, piled next to the hatchling are some perfectly beautiful looking shards of an egg, that catch the light in just the most amazing way.

DID SOMEONE SAY BIRD?Zouichi was looking for Howard (which was pretty much the only reason he visited the Mess Hall nowadays) and found... Diana? It had been a while since he'd last seen her. He was about to greet her when he heard a familiar sound.
Stepping closer, he verified his suspicions. It was the second cutest baby bird ever (Alan, of course, was the cutest)! "Hey. Who's the new arrival?"
no subject
Is it wrong that I knew you'd show up?Diana stopped with a spoonful of grey sludge midway towards the chicks awaiting mouth. She looked up at Zouichi, recognizing him and giving the guy a nod of greeting. "Oh, it's you. Hi."
Then, without much care or attention to what she was doing, pressed the spoon into the chicks mouths, down against its tongue, making it gag down the slimy meal before croaking for more.
no subject
Uh. Um. /DISAPPEARHe nodded back, taking a seat nearby. "I know the Mess Hall is supposed to make specially formulated meals and everything, but... you sure it's okay to just shovel it down Jr.'s throat like that? He is a baby."
no subject
"Don't most chicks have food vomited into their mouth anyway? I'd say this is a step up."
Another spoonful was shoved down the poor babys gullet, but it continued wriggling and crowing all the same.
no subject
Of course, Alan hadn't needed it after all, but better safe than sorry.
no subject
She put the spoon down but the baby continued to croak for food. Diana ignored it.
"You have one?"
Alan... She'd heard that name before...
no subject
"Yeah, I have a parrot I got on one of the shore leaves. The merchant I bought him from said he was weaned, but I wanted to get one just in case."
He smiled at the ugly little baby bird. Aww.
no subject
The bird wobbled and called loudly for more attention and food. When Diana ignored it, it increased its efforts, so much so that it fell over.
Diana looked down to watch it squirm about on it back pathetically before finally, but slowly, she cupped it in her hand and rightened it again.
The baby bird chirped and tried to press itself against her palm but she'd already brought it away, causing it to nearly tumble over again.
no subject
Poor little guy. Zouichi dribbled a little more food into its beak. "I have some seeds for when he grows up, too, if you want them. Although I'm not sure what kind of bird he is, honestly."
no subject
"Neither do we." She said, poking the pile of skin and bones, which chirped at her. "I'm going with something black though."
no subject
"Something black? Like a raven, maybe?" Well, it'd get easier to tell once feathers started growing in.
no subject
"When that AI went all psycho on the ship, I heard him and 'Cassie', I think her name was, talking about an 'Alan'. Was that your parrot?"
"Hopefully." Diana smirked and ran her fingers through her long dark hair. "I wouldn't want to clash."
no subject
"That's him. I bring him around the ship occasionally; you can't miss him. He's the only parrot on board. Bright feathers; red, yellow, green and blue. And he's very smart." Maybe a little too smart.
Zouichi raised an eyebrow at her. Of course, Alan didn't match his own coloring at all, but that was fine with him. He was still The Cutest Parrot.
no subject
And she couldn't deny the odd feeling she got when thinking of something hurting the useless blob of pink infront of her.
It seemed to amuse Diana even more that he didn't get it. "I'm kidding."
no subject
"Oh, good," said Zouichi, deadpan. "I didn't want you to judge me for not coordinating with Alan. He's so stubborn, you know."
no subject
"I won't, I promise." She winked. "Stubborn, hmm? I like him already."
no subject
He smiled a little. "Stubborn... but he's a sweet bird. I wouldn't trade him for any other. Anyway, what's this guy's name?"
no subject
She wasn't so sure that she could even keep this bird alive for one night, let alone a week. Plus, naming it would just make it more awkward, not for herself, but for others if she ended up eating it.
"I guess just calling it 'bird' and 'it' will get pretty tiresome, won't it?"
no subject
"Probably. Or you'll end up like Lash, with a pet named Dog." How was Dog, anyway? Zouichi remembered Lash sending out a message about him on the comms... maybe he should check up on the both of them, just in case.
no subject
"Point taken." She kept her eyes on the pink blob that cried up at her with a gaping mouth. "A name, hmm?"
Diana turned to look at Zouichi. "What made you pick 'Alan'?" She smirked. "It's a rather... typical name for older men back where I'm from. Not so much so for pets."
no subject
Zouichi had told Howard about it, but Howard had started to glaze over. Sigh.
"Anyway, he just looked like an Alan."
no subject
"Sounds... Interesting." She said through a smile.
"Well, this doesn't look like anything. Anything but 'ugly'."
no subject
"I don't know; I think he's pretty cute. But maybe something'll come to you." Hopefully something that wasn't a reference to eating the poor thing. "So you're planning on keeping him around for a while?"
no subject
"Maybe." Diana shrugged, seemingly unaffected. "If he survives that long."
no subject
Sheesh, Diana, what kind of pet owner were you? Also, he was super cute okay.
