System Shock - Fight the Power!

Gods could be too arrogant. Such was the case of SHODAN, who had turned the Pods into a nightmarish zone where she could freely amuse herself and torture those that had come here.

But arrogance breeds pride which breeds mistakes. Instead of killing everyone off, she had decided to do this more slowly – watch them suffer in a slow agony, and, therefore had not expected them to fight back.

It had been a lucky shot, really, one in a million, But one of the people present that day had accidentally shot a tiny, insignificant object. A tiny little drone, that, once it had been the source of the power damper, had fallen. The tables were turned, and the goddess had been forced to retreat from the pods.

Now she was on a panicked mode, not only because some of the other people on the ship had managed to work their way into her system files, using another AI to send pointless images and sounds to her, distracting her from her task, but they knew how they could defeat her and gain their powers back.

It didn't take long for the message to be sent out, as the word quickly spread. Find the tiny little creatures, and shoot them down. SHODAN couldn't work their shields properly and once they were found, it was only a short matter of time before the powers returned to an area.

It would take time, but, finally, the tide of the battle was turning on the side of the crewmen and women. In vain, she was throwing her all; even more strange robot creatures, attacking in packs, but with hope on their side, they could win this...

[OOC - OKay go for it! NPC players, feel free to NPC as many robots as you like. Players, once your powers return, feel free to make as much scrap metal as you like, no need to have people NPC for you if you just want to write tags of them kicking ass.]

Considering how sporadic her powers were cooperating with her, Rachel had forgone using them, even though the power dampeners seemed to have started to be destroyed. She could occasionally bulk up when she felt like she was able to, but otherwise? Hell if she were relying on something so-- well, unreliable, right now.

So, beaten and battered and way more marred by battle than anyone would normally have seen her, Rachel was hoisting a rather large gun, and charging and blasting away. It was a learning experience.

"Bring it, robots."

Esplin didn't want them to bring it. Esplin really was content having them be taken out as individuals or small groups, with well places or entirely accidental weaponry. He longed for a proper Dracon beam to use at will, which of course meant he had nothing but what he'd salvaged out of Weaponry ages ago. All inferior to Yeerk or Andalite technology, in his heavily biased opinion.

Rachel went charging in? Esplin when falling down, crawling, doing his best approximation of stealth around the area. Taking advantage of situations to cut down what he could, but largely unable to do his favored approach.

Stealth was such a relative bummer.

As it was, Esplin was currently hunkered underneath a giant scrap of smoldering gardenshed because he'd just been slammed into it in the force shock of an explosion caused by one of the robots on the building next-door.

Whoosh!

There goes a human girl into a shed, Rachel, and she's having trouble stirring herself into awareness again. Poor creature, if hey, at least once she was armed.

Sadly that gun is now ten feet away from her, and a SAINT is marching in. What do you do?

Well unfortunately, there wasn't much choice in that, was there? She couldn't exactly go leaving her crewmates to get killed, could she? Even if they were stupid enough to get themselves into trouble in the first place. Though this girl had a weapon, and that certainly counted for something.

She didn't have much time to aim, but she threw the energy weapon up high enough to avoid hitting the girl on the ground. A pulse of energy rocked her nearly off balance (recoil was something she kind of still had to get used to) but it blasted into the upper half of the robot.

Rachel grinned as she recovered and charged forward. The big gun was something she could get used to.

Esplin took advantage of someone else pressing the attack by crawling forward to reclaim his gun, having difficulty breathing. He didn't get a good look at whoever it was at first, instead flipping over onto his back and wide-eyedly surveying the scene.

The pulse of energy that had flown over his head left his hair standing on end for a while, slowly settling back down even as he let off a shot at a building corner, attempting to get the entire awning to fall down and block off that particular pathway.

His shot brought it closer to tumbling, but it still needed another nudge. "Shoot the wall!" he called out, finally getting a proper look at whoever had stepped in. He was taken aback when he realized who it was.

One of them.

As much as Rachel disliked being told what to do, shooting the wall for strategics? That was something she could do, yeah.

She let out a blast and watched as the wall came tumbling down, giving them a few moments, at least, of reprieve.

"You should probably get out of here," she snapped, turning to face the girl. And then pausing. Because she was starting to think she recognised that face, despite the rush they were in.

Esplin didn't need to be told twice. Gun in hand, he took off down a narrow side-alley that ran almost parallel to the main streets the robots were moving through. He was aiming to make it to either a far enough point in city to be looked over for now, or more realistically, one of the safe-holding groups. Better chance of making it when the numbers were on your side. Made for more targets to shoot at.

Besides, none of these idiotic robots were using anything that truly counted as a massive unit destroyer. In his opinion, if they were wanting to subjugate the crew, they were going about it all wrong. Fast heavy hitting (and some of the sly stuff, for the surprise element), not this kind of... blathering, ego-led march toward oblivion.
