Team Alpha: Awesome or Awesome? [Locked to Team Alpha]

Worf paced in the dining hall, waiting (with some impatience) for the team under his command to arrive. He was aggravated by the disrespect shown earlier by one Ron Stoppable and was concerned that the same flippant attitude would permeate the team. He would have to ensure that such a thing did not happen. A glance towards the entrance and a firm nod is the only greeting the first arrivals receive.

Loren stopped being surprised by ugly (and not so ugly) look aliens a long time ago. Without missing a beat, she nodded back at Worf. "Hi, I'm Loren."

Billy was next to arrive. Eyes serious, shoulders squared, he returned Worf's nod and stood at attention.

Ax was the third to enter, and he nodded solemnly back at Worf before moving to stand with the other two. He nodded to both of them as well, and tried not to stare too hard at Loren.

"Hola amigos." Ron said, walking in.

"Hnk, Hola!" Rufus piped up in unision

The others (except Ron) might have been used to this pseudo military act but Loren wasn't. She gave up any pretense of following along when she saw Ax.

At first look she thought it was Elfangor, but Elfangor was older now. On closer look she saw they were different but there was a strong resemblance. He could only be Elfangor's brother.

Ax bowed to her in response, giving her an Andalite smile.

< You must be Loren. My brother has told me a great deal about you. >

He'd also heard about her from Tobias and how very strange the whole situation was. He had agreed most heartily on that point.

"I hope it's all good." And knowing Elfangor, it probably was. "It's so good to meet you!"

< He thinks very highly of you, > Ax said. Which was a great deal of understatement. He had heard a great deal about Loren from Elfangor since he had podpopped and Ax and Tobias had revealed that they were aware that he was Tobias' father.

Pavel was running late. Not that he ever missed his shifts on the bridge but trying to catalog things in the lab to get started on working on a theoretical transporter for the ship was eating at him. It was the sort of job that kept a person from sleeping unless Stacey decided to step in and make them sleep.

Skidding to a halt, or trying to, the young Starfleet Ensign all but blushed a bright shade of red. "Ah.. I am sorry if I am late. Zhere vas much to do in zhe lab.."

Poor excuse, Pavel. Poor excuse.

Once Worf "released" them Loren turned to Ax and her "son."

"I must have a billion questions for you and I can't think of what to start with."

Ax swiveled a stalk-eye in Tobias' direction.

"I was thinking more embarrassing stories and less things that will change my future." Although she was going to change her future if it was at all possible.

At least in Tobias' case, it had been very short and easily dismissed by his past self.

< Embarrassing stories? > Ax repeated. Well, he could tell her about the time they had all forgotten that the only difference between steers and bulls was surgery which could not be acquired with the DNA... < What sorts of embarrassing stories? >

Loren grinned and gave Tobias a meaningful look. "I don't know. I don't want to embarrass Tobias so you can tell me about Elfangor." There had to be some.

Which had always been a bit frustrating. As much as he loved his brother, living in his shadow was hard, and made harder by the fact that he seemed to be perfect.

"Shoot. Not any? Not even one? There has to be one."

But looking at Ax he looked somewhat embarrassed himself. Ohhh this had to be one of those awesome older sibling situations. Loren knew a few friends with that problem.

Once the introductions had ceased. Rufus had started glaring at Worf, somewhat ticked off that the Klingon had snapped at Ron over the comms.

Worf hadn't really noticed until he had released the team to talk, and when he did he arched an eyebrow, stepping over to Ron. He crossed his arms and glanced down at the boy.

"Your pet seems to be glaring at me."

"Huh? Oh." Ron said, finally noticing his buddy's reaction to the alien.

"Alright Rufus, What's up?" The naked mole rat began chittering in response, Ron miraculously understanding it even when it wasn't speaking bits of English.

"Ohh. He's kinda not happy about the whole thing on the Omnicomms"

"Yeah." Rufus grunted.

Worf snorted, eying the small naked rat-like creature for a moment before looking back to Ron.

"What it thinks is not important. I still expect you to function as a member of this team, without your pet debilitating you in any fashion, no matter its opinion."

Congratulations Worf. You just insulted Rufus, which happens to be one of the few things that makes Ron angry.

"Okay, one? What Rufus thinks is important. He's not just some dumb animal, and he's just as much a member of the team as anyone else here. Two? I can function as a member of this team, and respect your orders. That's half the reason I tried to give you a nickname earlier. I tend to hand them out to people I really respect."

Worf just gives Ron one of his patented sighs and this time really does cover his face with his hand.

"Your 'Rufus' is a pet and unless he has some skills you chose not to reveal to the rest of the team earlier, he is not a member of the team." A pause to let that sink in.

"And while your respect is appreciated, I do not need a nickname."

"I'd figured they'd be kinda obvious. Y'know, being able to talk, being way smarter than your average naked mole rat, the fact that he's a naked mole rat in the first place which means he's pretty good at climbing though stuff like air ducts and maintenance shafts, being able to chew through stuff with his teeth..."

"So...Rufus is essentially a more intelligent rodent." Admittedly, it could be useful in certain situations. "He will be noted under your assets, then."
