On your broomsticks! [OPEN]
Following the instructions given to him by crew members here and there, Cedric stepped through a green archway tucked on a corner of the fifth floor and entered a grey void. He closed his eyes, concentrating on the sort of place that would be perfect for a day of flying. He imagined a bright grassy plain, a large lake, and a forest off to the side. Vague memories turned into vivid images surrounding him, so thoroughly convincing that he really believed he'd been taken from the ship and placed on a field back on Earth. It was quite a convincing illusion
.
All it needed now was the key piece: a group of brooms. He thought for a moment on which brooms to provide them with. Firebolts were the world standard, but he'd never known one well enough to be able to picture it accurately. The school brooms, Shooting Stars, were nice and safe for new riders but not quite reliable. In the end, he knew his own broom best: a sleek Nimbus 2001, gifted by his father. As long as he instructed the fliers to go slowly, they should be safe on those brooms.
Visitors would find Cedric side-mounted on a broom in his black and yellow Quidditch robes, gliding just slightly over the grass. As soon as he spotted them, he'd greet them enthusiastically and move to touch down. "Hi!"
((ooc: wide open for everyone to join in! We'll be doing some group exercises too, so thread around! Fly as a group when you're ready!))

"I just had to come by and see this for myself. Our people still use brooms back home but they're more common in the magic world."

Negi's reference to separate worlds confused him, though. "I've never seen staves like these before. Do you channel your magic through them?"
no subject
"That's right," said Negi, nodding. "It's kind of like wands but we can use them as multipurpose tools, such as to fly, and channel magic. Though I usually use this ring instead." And he held up the ring with the latin scrawled across the front.

Cedric brought his broom back down to mounting level, considering this new knowledge. "That's really something. I can see how it might be advantageous for a magical object to serve all those functions, but we've wound up with the small wands and brooms arrangement. It's worked well enough for us."
He was thinking about offering to fly again, but that could wait a minute. Negi's ring had drawn his curiosity. "How does the ring work?"
no subject
"Ah it's basically an enchantment, built into the ring. Inscribed in Latin, it functions like a wand, and allows me to use my magic when separated from my staff. The ring is made up of various materials and gold to overlay it since it's a conductor of magical energies." explained Negi. "Basically it's a wand-in-a-ring, and acts as my focus."

Cedric studied the ring, approving. "It'd be harder to lose. I like it. So...how far along are you in your studies?"
no subject
"Graduated, top of my class. I've been placed in Mahora Academy as a teacher." answered Negi, waiting for the surprise to settle in.

"Do you start your training at very young ages, or are you older than you appear to be?"

How different did magic have to be in their world?

Whoa. Cedric was feeling quite humbled here. He settled back on the broom, itching to get some action in. "Are you a world-class flier too?"
no subject
And he kicked off, hovering there with a grin on his face.

"I'll let you start the course, though I might regret it in a moment."

Yes, the loop! He loved twisting upside down, clinging for his life and not having a care in the world.
"How's it coming!"

And he does, going through the motion two or three times until he gets it right. He's well-practised enough not to slip, luckily. "I focus on my agility more than showmanship---like this!"
He moved into a series of dizzying turns and dives, as if chasing an invisible object zooming across the field. He had to be ready to change direction at a moment's notice.

But he wouldn't dwell on that problem. Instead he dipped lower, gliding over the lake. It was a great view.

"I just don't know how I could help you in return. You seem to have already mastered everything."

Excited at the prospect of having a usable broom again, Cedric looked up and kept asking questions. "What did you do after you graduated?"
no subject
"Ah, well I'm a teacher actually, a Professor at Mahora Academy in Japan. It's actually kind of like a mundane-magical school, as there's teachers of all kinds, both magical and non-magical." explained Negi. "I'm in charge of 3-A, a class in the girls school."
