Following the instructions given to him by crew members here and there, Cedric stepped through a green archway tucked on a corner of the fifth floor and entered a grey void. He closed his eyes, concentrating on the sort of place that would be perfect for a day of flying. He imagined a bright grassy plain, a large lake, and a forest off to the side. Vague memories turned into vivid images surrounding him, so thoroughly convincing that he really believed he'd been taken from the ship and placed on a field back on Earth. It was quite a convincing illusion

All it needed now was the key piece: a group of brooms. He thought for a moment on which brooms to provide them with. Firebolts were the world standard, but he'd never known one well enough to be able to picture it accurately. The school brooms, Shooting Stars, were nice and safe for new riders but not quite reliable. In the end, he knew his own broom best: a sleek Nimbus 2001, gifted by his father. As long as he instructed the fliers to go slowly, they should be safe on those brooms.

Visitors would find Cedric side-mounted on a broom in his black and yellow Quidditch robes, gliding just slightly over the grass. As soon as he spotted them, he'd greet them enthusiastically and move to touch down. "Hi!"

"A lot of my style is actually incorporating magic into martial arts. That's why I use the ring," explained Negi.

He nodded. "I do some basic magical training from my own world, as well as martial arts. I do regular classes for the kids who want it, but most of them know that I'm just a professor back home. I can give you a basic rundown of the Chinese art that I use."

Cedric thought about it. It would be difficult, yes, and something very new, but as long as he was here he was going to have extra time. He should be using it to learn all that he can.

"I'd like that, thank you. No sense in not learning what I can." Even if it would be new to have such a young person as his professor.

Negi smiled, nodding. "All right. We can get together again after this, and then I'll show you what I went through, and then a bit of a demonstration of what my home magic is capable of."

"Then it's a deal," Cedric decided, flying low enough over the grass to hop off and roll to a stop on the grass. That was just fun to do.

"So...give it a few days?"

"Just until you get a pattern set in," said Negi. "It's good to start as soon as possible but it's nice at least to figure out the progression of time here. It can be a little jarring since it's a 'sleep when you feel like it' kind of place."

"And you probably want to be well rested and fed for it. It's fairly intensive."

"I'll remember that, Professor," Cedric said lightly, saluting. "I think I almost have a sleep schedule I can stick to. The throbbing cushions are a bit tricky, though."

But he was managing! Somehow.

"Oh about that. There's a mobile residence on board right now in the City, called the WITCH Bus. It was previously owned by our Counsel Head but he left me the keys. You're welcome to rest there. We've got actual beds." explained Negi.

"A bus?" Cedric knew of one bus that wayward wizards traveled on, but he wasn't sure how this other bus would compare. "Are you sure there's room? And will I be able to find it if it's moving?"

"I've got it parked in the main area of the city where most of the activity is," said Negi. "It's a magic bus after all, with rooms, classrooms, the whole nine yards."

"I see. And they won't mind my taking a room?"

It did sound like a nice place to live, but he wouldn't want to intrude.

"We've got a whole dorm in there," said Negi. "Believe me, you won't be intruding."

"I could live there." He did miss the Hufflepuff dorms. It wasn't quite the same. They probably wouldn't have patchwork quilts or bedwarmers. But he'd be happy with a marginally more comfortable bed.

"So I can simply walk there tonight and ask to sleep?"

They didn't, but they had some blankets made from scraps. "That's right. Here, just take this."

He tossed Cedric a rainbow embossed keycard. "That's your key. Just hold it up and the door will unlock."

Cedric's hand shot out to snatch up the key, Seeker's reflexes still fully intact. He lifted it up to the light to study it, rather pleased. It was all going to work out.

"Thank you. So...will I find work to do around the house? Earning my keep?"

"That's right. We take turns helping clean the classrooms and the kitchens. You're responsible for your own room, but other than that, pitch in when you can." said Negi. "Breakfast every morning, but the rest needs to be sensorium or regular slop meals since we can only stretch the real food out as much as possible."

"Yes sir," Cedric saluted. "But I don't need to take up your supply of real food. It's not quite as good, but I can make my slop taste better."

He had quite a bit of practice with food spells. What better way to practise in the morning before class? They all had to eat sometime.

"Oh, that's good then! Glad to hear it," said Negi, grinning widely.
