Magic and Mystical: Interviews

Nothing felt quite so good as to have a project on its way. If this one features slightly less graphical and arbitrary annihilation of all sense and reason to the universe so that his will and desires may stand paramount in all creation, it's no less important or relevant for all that.

Aibghalien has set aside a few of what appear to be practice areas for interviews and assessments, hoping these are large enough to use for any demonstrations necessary. If not, the courtyard outside allows plenty of space for particularly pyrotechnical displays.

[OOC: Those willing to help interview may start their own threads for people to comment on (but Abby would like to get your own lists!) If your character would have come, but you aren't able to thread it out for any reason, just put the information in the Handwaved thread for later compilation.]

"It's good for a start," said Negi, scribbling down the notes in neat handwriting. "The purpose of the study is to see what we can and can't do, limits aside and pool our talents together."

"Is there anything you specialize in? Summoning, or perhaps elemental magic? I deal mostly in wind and lightning magic."
bequiet_hescreamed: My bronchial tubes have chosen the most narratively appropriate moment to fill themselves with phlegm. (AHEM.)

He nodded. "Healing and defense. My primary elements are light and lightning."

Not that elements particularly mattered, since a specialization was more specific, but hey - something in common!

"Ah that's good! We've got a lot of diverse kinds of mages on board, but so few who have really good healing skills to be honest." admitted Negi. "There's a few, but not many. Maybe you could teach a class if need be?"
bequiet_hescreamed: Oh, so you know who to blame for lying to you about all the bullshit you're about to go through? Okay. (who me?)

[personal profile] bequiet_hescreamed 2011-10-21 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I could!" Clef replied, a little surprised at the suggestion and even more surprised that he hadn't thought of it first. "That was essentially my job back home. Assuming that I can be of any help to people who might use vastly different magic systems, I'd actually like that very much."

"Great! If your magic doesn't require anything too specific, then it should be all right to do a few classes here and there. We're short on healers and I only know them book-wise. I don't use them very often."

Negi jotted a couple more things down. "We've got a lot of various people on board. So sometimes we'll have ideological clashes. Are you okay with that?"
bequiet_hescreamed: One does not simply walk into Mordor. (surprise)

[personal profile] bequiet_hescreamed 2011-10-21 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"What do you mean?" Clef felt a little naive asking something like that, but there must be some serious problem if you had to actually warn for something minor like that. "I keep to a very strict philosophy, myself, but it goes without saying that not everyone is going to agree. I'll not force it on others, if that's what you're getting at."

"Well some people are used to doing something one way or the other way. And a couple are kind of squirrely on the power of darkness, which a couple of us use for one reason or another." admitted Negi. "But it's good to know, because there's always options to working together."
bequiet_hescreamed: Oh god, I'm so relieved. (whew)

[personal profile] bequiet_hescreamed 2011-10-21 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh! Power of darkness," Clef sighed with relief. "That's just a matter of what elements or forces come naturally to a person, as far as I'm concerned."

Some of his best students had been dark magic users - it tended to be a rather destructive path, but it was not an indicator of moral worth. He knew enough of it himself to be able to teach it.

"I was worried that there was something concerning religion, or what constitutes a worthwhile use of magical ability."

[identity profile] hisfathersstaff.livejournal.com 2011-10-21 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah some people believe it's a corrupting power. Though I use it as well." And it was corrupting. But he had a handle on it for the most part.

"But I'm glad you're open minded on the subject."
bequiet_hescreamed: You made me a backscratcher? I don't know whether to feel embarrassed or appreciative! (:D)

That's what people say about crack cocaine, too.

"I think that light and dark magic compliment each other well," or maybe it was that Clef and Zagato complimented each other well. The Guru was pretty sure it was a bit of both, though. "So if there's ever anything that requires pairing up I might seek you or someone out."

No doubt.

"As do I actually. I'll look forward to working with you in future projects." said Negi with a smile. Finally, someone who respected his views on magic like that.

Interviews were definitely difficult work. Alastirra was glad that she didn't have to wrap her mind around it. On the other hand, she got to exercise skills she was good at.

"I hope you gentlemen don't mind some refreshments?" the Draenei asked as she passed through, setting down a tray with a pot of tea and two teacups. A small pot of honey, a small jar of orange marmalade, and a plate of pumpkin spice bread completed the array.

"Keep up the good work," she said with a smile, and wandered back out.
