Hero Time! The Land

Welcome, dear visitor, to a world consisting entirely of plastic-looking city sets. My, don't they look ready to blast apart at a moment''s notice? It's almost as if an attack is expected in this sector.

But not to worry! The 'attacks' here are just goofy entertainment. Lovably laughable employees in dull green suits may make menacing gestures at times, but they're just a nuisance. The visitors to this section are protected by the Masked Rangers, the people in heavy helmets and spandex suits you might see from time to time. The acrobat-types, the ones in the flimsy suits, perform tricky stunts and wave 'blasters' that shoot a cheap spark effect from time to time. Driver-types wear heavier armor and traverse this section of the park in their specialized motorcycles, zipping down specialized roadways seemingly from nowhere.

Other than that, the environment is fairly industrial. The main attractions are in the 'abandoned warehouse district'. It features greasy food (and surprisingly good smoothies, strangely enough), alarm bells every now and then, and the crowning ride of this sector: an exciting cart ride through the warehouses that culminates in riding atop a giant mecha. The vibrations as the mech carrying the vehicle shoots its lasers are quite unsettling the first time or two, and riding through the smoke cloud of a post-henshin explosion can cause mild fits of coughing. This adventure is not for the faint of heart.

Simpler shows are done in the park-like area, where a few of the more acrobatic employees in helmets and flimsy costumes seems to dance-fight with several of the mooks. It's a cute show, and the only exciting thing is the spread of the explosion. It shoots up in a rainbow of colors when the heroes make a pose. Games can be played here, but always be ready to clear out and make way for the heroes! A little parade of motorcycles and mecha comes through several times a day, and masked characters address the audience with well-prepared safety tips and suggestions for community service.

Gift shops in this area feature knockoff Masked Ranger costumes, transformation toys that light up, toy mecha and motorcycles that combine in many very expensive combinations, and little sparkler lights. Fortunately, actual material for an explosion is not sold.

This nonsense might feel strangely familiar...

Billy was willing to accept another shore leave after the time they'd had. Maybe an amusement park wouldn't be so bad. This time. He'd begun to hope that he might even enjoy himself.

Instead, he found himself apprehensive and a little embarrassed. The employees parading around here were dressed in rather pathetic versions of familiar costumes and doling out advice about staying in school and being helpful to one's neighbors.

Had he really been that embarrassing? Billy would always stand by his values, and he wanted everyone around him to do well. But this seemed obnoxious, he thought as he smiled and quickly made his way past some children. They had seen the 'knockoff Masked Ranger morpher' on his belt, and he quickly stowed it away. But the commotion was already starting.

"Aren't you a bit old to be wearing one of those?"

"Oh, he must be one of the park drones off duty. Poor guy."

"No, he's just a weirdo."

Great. He was already making a bad impression with the rest of the crowd. Sighing, he pushed past them, earning a shrug and headshake from a nearby masked employee. He'd just quietly eat and get going, and no one could make him stay. He was not that ridiculous!

The employees just weren't passionate enough about their cause for justice. That was all.

Atom, flying over the crowd (hey, there were a lot of people milling around!), came in for a touchdown near Billy, waving in friendly fashion. "Hey, you're the guy from the comms, right? How'd your girlfriend's party go?"
morphitudinous: (A majestic unicorn?)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Billy's head tilted upward. He was being addressed---for what? He felt dread, but it dissipated when he realized that the person talking to him was just another crew member visiting the planet. That was all right, then.

"That's right, " Billy nodded. "Everything went well for us, thankfully. You're Atom, right? Sorry I haven't been around to show you more of the engineering work."

Re: (at the park---open)

[identity profile] andyallgrownup.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Andy just blinked, looking around before letting out a groan. God, of all the places to end up on this planet, he would just have to end up here. Though at least it was a bit different for him than it would've been if he had lived his life as a ranger before the ship.

He shook his head, looking over and seeing Billy heading over somewhere, quickly moving to follow him and ignoring similar remarks about the morpher on his wrist. "Billy!"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"No problem!" Atom frowned a little, looking around at the crowd. Once minus of having super-hearing was all the cruel things you could hear sometimes from people who thought you couldn't hear.

"Hey, are you okay? They're not making fun of you, are they?"
morphitudinous: (Are you reading that correctly?)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Andy!"

Now there was a voice Billy hadn't heard in a while. He spun around and lifted an arm, waving his teammate over.

Looking around at their strange surroundings, Billy shook his head. "You shouldn't have to see this. I promise it's not always like this."
morphitudinous: (Are you reading that correctly?)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
They were, but what were a few insults from a crowd of strangers? Billy shrugged and sighed. "They are, but I just need to put my morpher away. They wouldn't believe the truth, and this isn't the first time."

He turned to look away from someone that had stared. "Besides, with any luck we won't meet again. Especially when we get out of here."

The memories still bothered hm, though. Just a little.

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Atom glared right back at the staring man, who quickly turned away. Well, if it didn't bother Billy, he guessed he shouldn't make a scene. "I guess so. It's still not very nice, though. What's a morpher?"

He wasn't really familiar with Power Rangers, obviously.
morphitudinous: (Serious)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
"It's this," Billy dropped his voice, gesturing for Atom to come closer to him. When it was shielded from view, he pulled out the little buckle device again. "It allows me to morph into a combat uniform that's somewhat similar to what the employees here wear. They think it's all fictional, but for me the powers are real."

He glanced around at the crowds again. "I'm a more competent fighter than you might see here, though. I think so, at least."

Abandoned warehouse district

It was cheesy, it was ridiculous, and Tenaya didn't care. Sipping a strawberry-lemon smoothie and smelling slightly like sulfur from the ride, she looked pleased with herself.

She came from a grimdark version of the Rangers' world. Something as silly as this was fun.

[identity profile] saint-sami.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Part of Sasami was impressed by what she was seeing. Big explosions, flimsy, plastic-like cityscapes, the costumes... Okay, maybe not so much the costumes, especially after what she has witnessed. For the moment, she was busy drinking a smoothie when she spotted a girl with a panicked look on her face (http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/113413051/42357482). Her dark twin tails were whipping back and forth as if she was looking for someone.

"Are you okay?" Sasami asked.

"H-Huh? Y-Yeah, I, um... can't find my friend. We're, ah... kinda needed." she said.

(OoC: Feel free to poke Sasami if you want!)

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Atom grinned. "Hey, that's pretty cool. So you're like a Kamen Rider, too!" But more so than Tim. Because he had a feeling Tim didn't transform.

...in fact, he strongly suspected Tim put on his costume piece... by... piece.

Like normal clothes.

"So you do martial arts?"

[identity profile] memory-hax.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"ECTO-PHASE ACTIVATE!" exclaimed a young man, making arm movements as there was a great explosion of light amidst cheers of the kids as a new form stood there. "I am the child of the stars, Masked Rider, Grand Black!"

"How curious," said Philip, watching the spectacle to the stage kids. "I kind of want to work here now..."

"Billy, what the heck are you mopin' around for? This place is awesome."

Ron had been intimately aware of the tropes associated with Super Sentai for a reason, after all, and so he'd already known stuff like this existed.
morphitudinous: (w/Trini: PUPPIES!)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, they're somewhat like us. But they're more like the heavily armored people you see on motorcycles around here. We're the marital artists, yes."

Not that Billy was the greatest at it. He laughed awkwardly, watching a particularly impressive attempt at a flip by one of the employees.

"I'm not the greatest martial artist, though. Most of my friends knew how to fight before becoming Rangers, but my training's still in progress. I've improved, I just have to keep going to reach their level."

He was still awkwardly bent close, keeping his voice at a whisper. Maybe they needed a quiet spot.

[identity profile] andyallgrownup.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Andy shook his head as well. "Don't worry about it. This is just a really... not that great theme park. They probably just think it's all some sort of stupid story. If any of it were actually real they'd probably have a different attitude."
morphitudinous: (Are you reading that correctly?)

Re: (at the park---open)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"You think so?" Billy looked somewhat doubtful. He eyed the area with another little frown, though he was willing to settle and talk. The ride might still be of interest...

"Do we really give this impression?"
morphitudinous: (Back of a head)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not that I want it to be real," Billy said in a nervous whisper. "Not for them, at least. It's always the worst when the enemy attacks amusement parks. Not only is there a large crowd to injure, but kids get hurt."

He hated to see kids afraid---or worse, hurt---or worse, dead. That was the worst part of his job.

"Have you found anything of interest here?"

[identity profile] andyallgrownup.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Andy nodded. "Yeah, I get that. I was talking more about if they lived in a world where stuff like this happened like you did."

He shook his head. "Not... really. This place just seems a bit weird, to say the absolute least."
thisclinchesit: (Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?)

[personal profile] thisclinchesit 2011-10-13 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Shoutarou, however, was trying not to facepalm at the whole thing. Thankfully, he and Phillip didn't have the issues the Rangers did, since they only pulled out their belts when needed.

Then he looked over at Philip with a raised eyebrow. "Say what?"

[identity profile] memory-hax.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wouldn't it be neat to be a mascot for a day or so, Shoutarou? The interesting things you could see from the view of the people who believe Kamen Riders are fictional!" enthused Philip. "I wonder if there's a temp position opening...!"
thisclinchesit: (Lineface)

[personal profile] thisclinchesit 2011-10-13 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The detective lacked enthusiasm at this prospect, shaking his head with a sigh. "I don't know..." Given how ridiculous these outfits looked and the names associated with them, there's no telling what a version of Double would be like...

[identity profile] memory-hax.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Regardless, there's a Philip dragging you towards the booth. "Excuse me, can we sign up for being a mascot for a day?"

The weary looking man nodded. "Eh I guess so. Not many want the job. Report backstage. Two of you huh?"

"That's right." said Philip.

Taking their badges, Philip was grinning at the prospect of something new and exciting to learn about!

He did, largely because, while he had gotten more mature over the past couple years, he outright refused to entirely grow up.

"Us personally? Probably not. It's just that shows about people like us are produced and written on a live-action kid's show budget."
morphitudinous: (Back of a head)

[personal profile] morphitudinous 2011-10-13 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Billy took one look around and privately agreed. "Who would be entertained by this? It may be a comedy show, to laugh at the ridiculous nature of groups like ours, but there are better comedies to produce. The most I've seen is that ride."

And he was still wary of the warehouse ride.
