Medieval World!

Medieval World was one of the largest year-round renaissance faires in the multiverse.

Minstrels and bards wandered the streets, vendors sold ridiculously overpriced period clothing, jewelry, weapons, and turkey legs as big as a human's head, and the royal court mingled with the commoners. There were events everywhere: falconers, magicians, belly dancing, hypnotists, weapons competitions including swords, axes, maces, and bows, camel rides, Washing Well Wenches, fake jousting on wooden 'horses' suspended on ropes, and real jousting.

As was typical of these sorts of events, anachronicity was everywhere, as were patrons in all sorts of fantasy costumes.

Will nodded. "Good. Last thing I need to do is accidentally cut off someone's arm or my own." She moved her arm, making sure to keep a tight grip on the sword. "So... umm, do you know if it's possible to channel magic through a regular sword like this, or does it need to be special like your keyblade?"

"It should work no matter what the weapon is," Aqua said. "A lot of magic-users prefer using wands, but a lot of sword-users put at least a little magic behind their attacks to make them more effective, and they can use regular magic attacks like Fire or Blizzard too. But you'll want to start on the basics first before anything."

Will grinned. "I'll make sure to keep that in mind, but it's good to know that I can actually do it eventually."

"I'll have to remember to teach you Thunder Surge and Binding Strike," Aqua said.

"All right. Come at me with an attack. Let me see how you do."

Will nodded. "Alright!"

And with that, she charged forward, slashing the sword over at Aqua's chest... and the sword went flying out of her hand.

Looks like you didn't have a good grip on it Will.

"Stop!" Aqua cried, casting a spell on the sword so it wouldn't hit anyone. As long as time stopped on it, people could get out of the way.

"Okay," she said, trying to think of a good way to instruct Will. "You're putting too much force behind your initial attack. You need a good grip, first of all."

Will nodded, letting out a sigh of relief as the sword stopped in mid air. She moved over to grab it, this time making sure her grip on the blade was a lot better than it had been the last time. She sunk into a fighting stance, keeping her grip on the blade as she looked up at Aqua.

"This good?"

Aqua walked closer, correcting Will's stance and adjusting the way she held her sword.

"Much better. You'll want to keep it in a defensive position to start. I've seen some who prefer to hold it in an attack position or make unsheating their sword part of their attack, but I always thought it was best if you were ready in case your opponent attacked first."

Will nodded, keeping notice of what Aqua did to change her stance. "Sounds like it makes sense to me," she said. "I mean, I'd rather attack first if I knew there was an enemy, but well... if I'm close enough to use a sword I want to make sure whatever they have isn't going through parts of my body."

"That's it exactly," Aqua said. "You already have a good attack for a first strike with your magic, and it helps you keep your distance. But if you're forced into close range, you need to make sure you can defend yourself. I might be able to teach you a barrier spell, if your magic works with it."

Will really hoped that her magic would work with the barrier spell that Aqua was mentioning. It'd definitely be pretty useful to block attacks like that after all. She had seen Aqua's in action. "So... how hard is it to do one of those barrier spells anyway?"

"Not very," Aqua answered. "One of my friends had managed to get it to at least block in front of him, after he had to be taught basically everything all over again. Another friend of mine couldn't, but he never really bothered to learn much magic beyond the basics."

Will nodded at that. "That's good to know. At least I'll definitely be able to do something with it."

After all, she had magic, and she used magic. Sure, it was different than the general idea of magic usually was, but it was still magic.
