Danny was, quite frankly, irritated beyond all belief. A little bit after his clone/cousin/sister Dani had been repodded, he too had been dumped back into podsleep for who knew how long. And really, it had been horrifying enough the first time. He hadn't really wanted to repeat the experience. But of course Stacy, GlaDOS, or maybe just his avia had other plans.

He stalked his way back up to Weapons and Possesions, and, diving straight into the piles of junk, started looking for his stuff.

"Nope, nope, nope, come on, where is that dang Fenton Thermos?" Danny muttered, elbow deep in a box

Someone watched him show up again, with the micro-cameras that had been planted in various places on the ship.

Someone, when they saw him arrive, had teleported into Weapons and Possessions ahead of him.

That someone held the Thermos in their hands.

"It's right here," they said, and they pressed the button before he could see who was there.

He would find himself released a while after, in a clear cube, shimmering with energy. The dim light of that energy didn't do much to light up the room beyond and so his captor wasn't immediately visible.

"You're practice," came a voice in the darkness, a woman's voice. "The magnitude of him choosing you as his first subject--well, I'm sure you'll understand soon enough, but this is beautiful to me. Beautiful to behold. It brings me such pleasure."

"Such bravado. It will fail you in the end. As it did him. But I'm wasting time talking to a pink ape like you, aren't I. Who am I to play with another's food?"

If grinning had a sound, Danny could have heard a grin in the dark.

"Go ahead, son. Play with your new toy."

Out of the darkness stepped not a woman but someone (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v38/psychicsaphie/brainyicons/truecolors2copy.png) familiar to Danny, someone who'd once been a friend, even if he'd been reluctant to admit it.

"Thank you for the opportunity, mother," he said in a dull voice devoid of all emotion. "This will be most illuminating."

"You'll find escape impossible. My assistant can verify for you, if necessary."

"Danny, I'm so sorry."

The sound came from his left where a young woman hovered at the side of the room, hands folded behind her back in a precise manner that could only have been trained into her. She was dressed in plain grey clothes that hung off her too-thin frame, her red hair chopped to a manageable length without much care for symmetry.

She looked at him with eyes empty of any hope.

"...don't fight him. You'll waste your strength. You're going to need it."

"You haven't given up. You're Daniel Fenton. You're one of the most irritatingly persistent beings I know," Brainiac remarked with devastating calm. "The tricks you use on your own villains won't work here, Daniel. I'm not a villain, after all."

Brainiac fired up a rather gnarly looking probe and looked at it impassively.

"I am a scientist."

Brenda flinched from the sight of the instrument, dropping her head, shoulders hunched, but she stepped forward anyway when Brainiac flicked his fingers in her direction, stopping arms reach from him.

Her words were hollow, spoken on reflex.

"What do you require, sir?"

"Turn on the sound nullification field," Brainiac said to Brenda. "His screams will be terribly obnoxious otherwise."

But a little pain on Danny's part was worth it to satisfy Brainy's curiosity about his physiology, wasn't it?

It was time to get to work.
