Podpop

Instructions: Post your character with one post establishing them as being podpopped. Tag each other in groups of 2's, 3's, and 4's, to get some interaction to start with. If a thread doesn't already have 2 or 3 people tagged in, tag it with your character's podpop popping near the other people, rather than making a new subthread. If you would like to play out them talking to the AI, please send an email to the mods making the request--we do this only by request. Then move onto the big Newbie Meeting. Once your character has gotten the rundown from the old crew, you may start posting entrance posts and freely tagging.]

||Pod Release Protocols Initating|| Stacy's familiar voice sounds out to all the podmates through the ship.

In the Pod Caverns, there are the sounds of: Pop. Pop pop pop. Poppuhpoppoppop. KASCHUNKhiiiiiiiissssss.

There is condensation and mist spraying out from cracks in the pods, as the people inside slide out onto the floors, covered in slime.

--

There was nothing. You were going about your normal life, then there was a bright light, and then? Nothing.

Then the world lurches.

The chamber here is humid.

Actually, "chamber" isn't quite accurate. You're in a cavern, half-lit by an eerie greenish light, going on and on as far as the eye can see. The light is coming from what can only be described as pods, glistening, round greenish-yellow things, glowing with a pale inner light, outlining human -- and not quite human -- forms. Each is rooted to the floor, to the walls, with something black, twisted, and unidentifiable.

They line the walls of the cavern, go up in maddeningly high columns, curling and corkscrewing up into the darkness, until the light from them is like that of the stars, glowing pale and mournful in clusters in the darkness above. Twisted walkways and stairs crisscross, traverse the platforms in front of the pods, wending their way back and forth, up and down through the chamber.

You just came from one of those pods, broke free like a butterfly from a (slimy, nasty) chrysalis.

Now you stand alone but not quite alone, naked, not knowing how you got there, who took you, or why you were taken.

As your body heats up again, you realize the air is warm -- just a few degrees too warm to be comfortable -- and muggy; it smells acrid and organic, like freshly spilt blood and sweat. Your mouth tastes of salt.

The floors are pulsing under your feet, throbbing...

Wherever you are, this entire place...is alive.

Oh, and also you're naked and covered in alien snot.

When you call out, ask where you are, a voice speaks to you, in your head. She tells you:

||You are here.||

When you ask who she is, she tells you that her name is STA'C K'LTRRB'TXFT, but that you may call her Stacy. When she tells you who she is, there is a gush of emotion, love, maternal warmth. You are on a ship. She is that ship. Her name is Stacy and she loves you. Her voice is warm and motherly, even if these messages sound almost automated.

Glowing phosphorescent lights appear in pustules along the floor. They lead you up a massive spiraling walkway that gives you a view of what are possibly millions in stasis. At the top is a room with moving vines that clean you and clothe you in a plant-like body-suit--soft, but durable. After that, the lights lead you to a great cavernous room with a clear floor that lets you see all the holes and tunnels in the walls of it. When you reach the center, the last thing she tells you before whisking you away to gather your belongings and meet the rest of the crew is this reassuring thought:

||You have been Chosen to accomplish a Great Purpose. You have been Chosen to help fight the Ohm, a race of insectoid beings that are the destroyers of worlds.||

||You have been Chosen as champions of life, as protectors of the worlds and peoples that are left. The others are waiting for you. They will explain everything.||

She will tell you nothing more. Your answers lie with these "others" she speaks of.

Atom shook his head. "No, I mean the United States of Thracia. I thought maybe since you weren't used to seeing advanced robots that you were from there, but... maybe I'm wrong."
windwitch: (um...)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh. Well I'm from the United States of America, but that's obviously not what you're asking." She frowned. "I don't know then. I think I'd have heard if there were some countries with a lot more robots. We do have some but..."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Atom frowned a little. This was weird. Almost as weird as the creepy, organic ship around them. After a pause, he spoke up again. "Well, how about we go look for some clothes or something? Maybe we can figure out what's going on later."
windwitch: (let me explain)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Right! That makes sense. There's probably more people around here somewhere, that know what's going on, especially if we are on a ship, right? So maybe we should follow where everyone else is going, up there." She pointed up, taking a tentative step that way.

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Atom nodded and started after the others -- on foot. "I hope someone is piloting the ship."

To where? He didn't know.
windwitch: (um...)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd hope so too. Otherwise we'd just be drifting, right? Presumably, anyway, considering how space works, though I guess there could be some kind of propulsion. So hopefully we actually have a course or... something." She frowned. "I guess we'll find out soon, though."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Once they came to the walkway, it became evident just how many pods there were in these caverns. Each one, no doubt, with a person inside.

Atom looked down at them with a sober expression. "What kind of place is this...?"
windwitch: (surprise)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maxine was a combination of amazed and frightened by the sight before her. She looked around at the sheer volume of those pods in awe, glancing over at the boy with her.

"I don't know. But this is crazy. Like the size of this ship and the amount of people who are here and what if they were all kidnapped like we think we were? Oh god, I hope that they're all okay. Only we were okay, so they probably are. Right...?"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess so." Atom seemed a little unsettled by the sight of the pods -- the sheer number of them was staggering. "I mean, there wouldn't be any point of keeping them in one of those pod things if they weren't still alive. I think. Probably."

"...I don't think I like it here."
windwitch: (quiet)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think so too. I mean, I hope. We were okay, anyway, so it's probably the same thing for everyone else. Because otherwise there wouldn't be a point, like you said." Except maybe for villainous science purposes. But they were okay...

"Me neither," she agreed, voice falling a little. She was scared, honestly. "I hope it gets better. I don't know if it can or will, but I just really want it to get better. Maybe there will be friends or at least people we know here somewhere." She glanced at the pods. Because it wouldn't do them much good if their friends were in there...

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Once Maxine's voice fell, Atom's reaction was immediate. He stuck out a hand toward her, giving her a broad smile. "It'll be okay! I know it will. Even if your friends aren't here, we'll be all right if we all stick together."
windwitch: (the defaultest)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay," Maxine managed to say, smiling a little bit again, since he was being so nice to her. "Thank you. I'm sure you're right. Worst case, at least I've met you so it's not like I don't know anyone here, or that I'm totally without friends or anything." She really hoped that wasn't too presumptuous of her. To try and stop that from being a point to dwell on, "I don't think I said, by the way-- I'm Maxine."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yep. Besides, I'm sure a bunch of people here don't know each other or what's going on. So we're all in the same boat." He was glad Maxine seemed to be cheering up a little; he hadn't meant to make her upset. Mostly it was just that the situation was so strange... but he should have remembered that she'd be scared, too.

"I'm Atom," he said, then added, "Tetsuwan Atom. Nice to meet you, Maxine."

windwitch: (excitement)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right, that's true! So it's not like we're at any disadvantage compared to everyone else, right? And we can all try and help each other out, no matter what, too." She smiled a little bit more, nodding to that. "Which is much nicer. We don't have to try and do this alone, whether there's other people here we know or not."

"It's nice to meet you too, Atom-- is it okay if I just use that? I don't want to use the wrong name or anything."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that's fine. Everyone calls me that anyway." He stopped as they reached the cleaning tentacles, looking at them a little dubiously. "What is that?"
windwitch: (awkward)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-02 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay! As long as it's okay," she said, before she too stopped, to look at the tentacles. Biting her lip, she gave him a sideways glance. "Um, good question. They look kind of monster-y, only they're part of the ship, so that can't be right, right? Except that the ship has a name and everything, so maybe it could be a living thing." That wasn't a comforting thought. "Do you think it's safe?"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Atom looked at Maxine, then back at the tentacles. "I'll go first!" he declared, marching directly into their path.

ugh ugh ugh it was so gross but he was pretty sure they were cleaning him and then they put this weird skintight suit on him.

"...I think they're safe..." he said, making what could only be described as an 'ewww' face.
windwitch: (surprise)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-03 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, you shouldn't--" but she didn't really have a chance to argue that she was a hero and possibly older (though she wasn't sure that counted for anything with robots) before he went up. "Atom!" she said, getting nervous, and was about ready to try and launch into action to make sure he was okay when he confirmed it for himself.

"Oh. So it's really okay, then?" she asked, watching as they clothed him (which might have been redundant). "You're okay?"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
He gave her a little wave. "Yeah, I'm fine. It just put some weird clothes on me. You can go ahead and come over!"
windwitch: (frowny face)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-04 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay," Maxine said nervously, nodding. But he was okay, so it was okay. She stepped forward, letting out a surprised noise as she was lifted up, squirming a bit as she was cleaned and then dressed. But she looked over to Atom and managed a smile when she was set down. "Okay. So gross, but nothing dangerous or whatever, which was obvious." Then she made a face. "Oh, I think the suit is moving. Can you feel that?"

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Atom nodded. "Yeah. I think it's like... alive or something." Which was double ew.

"I guess that makes sense, though. I mean, it seems like this whole place is alive."
windwitch: (awkward)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-04 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess so. I mean it's really weird that it's alive in the first place, but Stacy did introduce herself to us so maybe it's not so bad. I've just never really heard of a living spaceship or clothes before."

[identity profile] tetsuwan-atom.livejournal.com 2011-10-04 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well... I guess I have heard of it, but mostly in science fiction and stuff." He tugged at the plantsuit a little doubtfully, then turned toward the direction in which the Obs Deck was (unbeknownst to him) waiting.

"Should we keep going?"
windwitch: (serene)

[personal profile] windwitch 2011-10-04 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, there is that, yeah, but I wasn't sure if I should count that because it's still just fiction, and this is obviously real. Unless it's a really vivid dream but I normally don't have dreams like this, and this is really detailed." She frowned, looking over her plantsuit. At least she was covered.

"Right! Nowhere to go but forward, I guess."
