Me, Myself and I [Bendtime after Visitation Day is Over] [OPEN]
Compared to yesterday where the sensoriums had gotten so much use, Lash was glad that it was mostly quiet as she slipped into a free one. The day had passed relatively quickly thanks to running mazes, but even that hadn't gotten her as joyful as she should be, as strange and exciting as it had been.
The world around her changed as she stood atop a giant mountain overseeing the forest below her. Her army stood closer, as her opponent in the horizon began to prepare to attack her. A typical scenario she liked to play out at least once a week, each time using it to test out new invention ideas and fixes she should make to her existing ones.
But she wasn't there. The spark, the thing that made Lash excited about anything war-related and gave her an almost-worrying macabre yet positive outlook on nearly anything appeared to be extinguished. She'd been thinking a lot. Even now, she didn't raise her arms dramatically as she usually did to get the battle started, but merely an uninterested movement of her fingers as she dismissed it all and sat down, dangling her legs over the edge.
"Good evening Mistress Lash! We await your orders!"
She said nothing.
Lash watched the soldiers below her slowly get destroyed, unable to find herself engrossed enough to bother or want to give out commands. Those damn emotions Black Hole hated so much were going to be the death of her, weren't they? She'd seen a lot of her friends reunited with people they cared about and then felt the pangs of jealousy that followed as she waited, mostly by herself, to see if miraculously someone else would step out. She couldn't complain to Stacy about it either, as much as she wanted too, due to the AI falling silent in what she assumed was exhaustion. But that wasn't the biggest thing on her mind, eating away at her as time marched forward.
It was the cold reality of knowing that perhaps, this proved she was the only person rescued from her world.
She never had thought of it as such before, figuring out that everyone simply wasn't ready yet. All the time she'd been here, Lash had never given up hope at meeting one of her old comrades-in-arms. Gone to every poddrop too. Hell, who wouldn't want Commanding Officers from her world with army boosting powers in a war like this? She was a perfect example! The others were just a little more dumb and need more time to be properly awoken, that's all! And yet, yesterday seemed to hit the final nail in the coffin. Even without being completely ready, someone should have come out. Heck seeing Olaf's big ugly angry face would have made her feel better. Was Stacy mad at her? She'd been helping repair her weapons! There was no way she'd just ignore people who actually cared about fixing her up compared to those who cursed her name wherever they walked, right? There had to be a fairness in this! Thinking about fairness now, it was almost bizarre.
...Or maybe Stacy had been fair, and there was no one to be brought out, even for a day.
"Mistress Lash? We await your orders! Please respond!"
Alone from her world. Strangely enough, it frightened her. The very idea that she'd be fighting the war, sure with her friends, but without someone who she knew from before. Her homesickness had disappeared after a few months on the ship, but now it came back with full force.
"Mistress Lash! They've got megatanks! Please respond!" The macabre spectacle played out below her as her own units fought on, still standing where she had placed them against an enemy that had been upgrading and building all the time she was simply leaning in and doing nothing. Lash didn't care. You'd almost think she was a statue in the way she was lost in her thoughts. Eventually she issued a single command that was almost dismissive to everything.
"Whatever. Just blow them up for all I care." The soldiers below yelled out commands and eventually large rockets were launched at the sky, shining in the star-filled night sky. The nuclear-like weapons exploded in the middle of the enemies' troops, giving her a good view of the entire carnage and clouds lighting up the atmosphere. Yet she got no joy from it, even as the normally deadly breeze passed by her. In fact, it only made her sigh as she idly pinched away a tiny rock stuck in her hair. The Wunderkind wasn't sure why she was like this. This was so dumb to care about it so much! Dumb dumb dumb! She'd loved doing this so much before but right now...
It felt really pointless.
For the first time in her life, Lash was completely unamused by an explosion.

For the first time in her life, Lash was completely unamused by an explosion.

Some expressions really went over her head sometimes.

"What's got you moping in a very unLashly manner?" he clarified.
no subject
A burn leg landed close to her, the smoke still rising from the bone and sinew, and she pushed it down the hill before speaking again.
"Hey, did you know Zedd got repodded? Great isn't it."
no subject
The Overlord reached out to put a hand on her back, the gesture an odd blend of comfort and possessiveness. He had absolutely no idea what to say, so he kinda hoped this helped.
no subject
"You know I always thought at least one of them would show up one day...but now I'm really starting to think none of them will."

And another explosion in the back. She shifted her knees slightly.
"It would make sense, you know? It's just...had I known that before I wouldn't have bothered going to all those dumb poddrops every time there was one, hoping I'd catch a familiar face. Even just to punch them in the face." Lash wouldn't have minded, really.
no subject
"So you're actually a little homesick?"
no subject
"...maybe a tiny bit," she admitted. "But considering I was running at the final celebration..." Yeah why was she homestick actually? That was really dumb of her.
"Actually I'm just more pissed that Stacy decided just to save me and no one else. An entire world that's got Commanding Officers that would be useful to this war and..." she trailed off again and threw her arms into the sky, visible frustrated. "...argh! I don't know what I want to think anymore. I was running away, and I knew that Hawke was dead, that Black Hole was gone and that the other nations would probably hide me somewhere and keep me away from the public's eye, but knowing that no one's here at all just made me so...so...."
Abandoned.
"..weird."

"Well I guess after driving giant robots in bright clothing, stealing fountains, dressing up as pirates, fighting large bugs and having fun with Overlords, there really isn't anything to look forward too exciting once I return home, is there?" She was being serious despite how absurd it almost sounded.
no subject
In other words, wasn't it already pretty much decided between the two of them that she'd be coming with him, when all this was over?
no subject
"Wars World would seriously be way too boring compared to that. Sides, with the sound beating the Allied Nations did to Black Hole, I honestly doubt any other nation will rise up to attack for a good, loooong while." And for a Wunderkind, Peace sure was boring.

"I guess I should stop feeling like this if we're going to win this whole war thing then, right?"

Zetta is venturing into the weird, baffling, totally unfamiliar territory of 'emotions', specifically those of a teenage Wunderkind. He is so far out of his element he can't even conceive of it. This shall be his greatest foe.
no subject
"For a short while? Yeah." Suddenly everything below them exploded and flames rose into the sky before disappearing just as quickly. There wasn't much left but the mountainside now. "The whole knowing that there just might be me, myself and I here kinda just started to gnaw at me all day yesterday..." she wiped her right eye there was a piece of dust there okay, before speaking again, smiling.
"I guess I kinda got jealous so I ignored completely what I already had here."
no subject
Really, for all that it was kind of rough and not exactly allowing for a lot of freedom to escape on her part, the gesture was kind of sweet?
no subject
Before falling completely silent again.
Zetta are you Santa. She couldn't really move, even if she wanted. At least that's what she told herself. At it was pretty boring, this peaceful stuff...but nice. She couldn't really deny that."...Thanks," she finally managed to stammer after a few minutes, before leaning on him.
no subject
"It's... just don't stay upset. I can kinda get how this would bug you." Actually, it irritated the hell out of him that his own Netherworld was destroyed. Literally destroyed, as in, with the Sacred Tome damaged, everyone and everything in it no longer existed. No chance in hell anyone he knew from it would show up out of the pods. Sure, Pram was here, but that wasn't quite the same. She was a familiar face, but she wasn't from his world. "And it can't ALWAYS be smiles, death rays, and explosions. It's only bad if it never is again."
no subject
"Eh don't worry. I think I've got my dumb lesson out of all of this. I'll just punch the Ohm extra hard in their faces the next time I see them, and not just explode a whole neoneotank." Her tone was getting better as she talked. For all the anger and unemotional she had been a few hours ago, she really didn't like feeling that way for too long either.
Besides, Zetta had said it best.
"Anyway! I'm tired of having this stupid nagging feeling, so I decided, the hell with it!" You could thank your language, Zetta, for Lash swearing a lot more than before. "I'm gonna skip out the next poddrop," she told him. "I showed Billy and Zou a few pictures of people I would actually be interested in seeing again, and I'm just not gonna bother going there each time hoping someone I know comes out. If they do, they can just find me instead. There's way more fun things to do during that time." A pause, then one of her tell-tale grins. "Especially since almost everyone is waiting there, making everything else on the ship relatively empty."
The chaos and the things they could do during that time!
no subject
"Technically I should show up as a member of the Council," Zetta said, though his tone made it clear he knew where his priorities lay. "But one of us needs to make sure that no anti-ship deeds get done while everyone else is distracted, right? And I'm sure no one would mind if I had some help doing that!"
Zetta liked Lash in large part because of how resilient she was. If she'd stayed depressed or mopey he wouldn't have known WHAT to do. She didn't, though; it was a big part of why she was so fun.
no subject
Except maybe. The part where the two of you where going to skip poddrop together. Yeah no one would ever get that. But hey, who wouldn't want to use an Overlord you'd won against as a glorified watchdog.
"Clearly we're looking out for the Ship's Interests in mind!" A pause as she thought what she had just said. "While everyone's else being disappointed they aren't meeting up with people from their homeworld, we could have a pirate battle!" Ship, pirates, in her mind it made sense to go from one to the other, okay. Plus she knew that Zetta did like the costume she wore the last time.
Was Lash starting to understand this whole not-caring thing? Probably not as much, but she did like the whole ship, sword and cannon things.

relationshiphanging out just because the two of them tended to distract each other from any serious trouble they might have otherwise caused."Pirate battle, huh? I warn you, I might plunder your booty."
no subject
relationshiphanging out. However at his last comment, she grinned and stuck out her tongue at him. It was getting pretty frightening that she went from being confused at mostly everything he said to understanding some of it (this from a girl who had to be told he was hitting on her, and not in the fighting way)."Oh yeah? Well first you'll actually need to best me in battle if you want to plunder anything. That's how it goes with piracy, right?"
