Martial arts training meeting go [so so open]

Morgan having made the call for anyone interested in their potential class to come meet them in the city, they awaited everyone who said they would be attending. The location itself, at least, was easily spotted by those looking for it, so Tim had approved the suggestion by Morgan for the meeting spot. And it did have a training room.

Tim himself was willing to give them a window of time to arrive, though he wanted to be organised and punctual enough to not keep people waiting either. At least they were able to mingle with each other in the mean time.

First they would have a meeting for those interested in assisting-- as teachers for specific skills or otherwise-- so that they had a firmer idea of where they stood with what they could teach. After that, of course, was the meeting for interested pupils, to organise. After that, they could get sanction to begin.

Man, this guy could be really confusing. Or maybe it was her? She couldn't tell: maybe it was just her needing to learn about this martial art way. But at least he was talking about winning: that was exactly what she was all about.

"Good. Because I fight to win too: if you knew how I did it, you might be a little bothered teaching me. But a lot's changed since then, and anyway, it's not like I was given a choice of what I could learn."

Ok, she could be cool with that. "So what can I expect in this first session?"

"Introductions and some talking, for the most part, I'm afraid." Sure to be disappointing, but necessary. "We're intending to split up duties a little, I think. I'll probably take on the more meditative and philosophical lessons, for example, since that seems to be more important to me than anyone else," he said with a self-amused grin. "Not that I won't give personal lessons either, since what do we have on this ship but time?"

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aww," Hit Girl said, making a face. "I was hoping to go toe to toe with someone today. Not that a little meditation and philosophical stuff will kill me, but you know I'm all about action. But if you're going to be doing all of that, what's T-um, the guy in the mask going to be teaching?"
morganknight: (smirking sort of)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-09-30 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think he's leaning towards karate and staff-fighting at the moment. The latter may be of possible interest to you?"

He'd missed her slip entirely, oblivious as he was.

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-01 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Definitely. If I want to learn abut meditation and self control, I can come to you for private lessons, right? At least here there are people learning with me and stuff."

Thank goodness.
morganknight: (a little somber)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-01 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Absolutely. That's something that, especially once you have the basics of meditation and movement down, is best done privately anyway. All instruction past a certain level is like that, honestly. Once someone gets enough experience to begin forging their own path, what works for them and helps them will never be quite the same as for anyone else."

And past a certain point, there came a time when the only way instruction could help someone learn was in their giving it, not their receiving it.

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. I wanna start with the training stuff now: the meditation will help with that later, I figure, once I'm able to concentrate my movements and really get things going. We had a recent mission, and I found out that our last session really saved my ass out there. I gpt close to a speed I had never been before: it was like I was rippling through time."

And she hadn't told anyone about this yet, not even Ruffnut.
morganknight: (oh really?)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-03 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He lifted an eyebrow. That wasn't surprising in and of itself -- perfect balance and perfect harmony made all things possible -- but after one meditative session it seemed unlikely for her to have achieved such a feat.

Unless it was just a catalyst, not a function. A conclusion which made much more sense. "There's a lot to be gained from balance," he said.

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
She never said she did it WELL, and that was the point: it was like a messy limit break, something she'd done where she thought she was going to die. The meditation had helped her from losing it, had at least kept her focus. But she knew now there was more to be learned, that she had, in effect, lucked out.

"I don't have balance-not yet," Hit girl said. "That's why I'm here: dad trained me to give my all, and I know that, after being on this ship, I can do more than what I'm doing. That fight was proof. But if I don't get that balance, that way to keep my head clear, its only luck, and that only lasts awhile."

"But you got a little closer," Morgan said. "If anyone is in perfect harmony with the universe, they've gone past the boundaries of humanity to become something fundamentally more in any case. For the rest of us, we just work on getting as close as we can."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-05 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah, that was pretty damn awesome, don't get me wrong. It let me know that I'm getting closer to that stuff that Zetta talks about all the time: finishing moves and limit breaks and stuff, all that video game jargon. It let me know this body can put up with a little more abuse than most."
morganknight: (smirking sort of)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-06 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose if you have to think about them any way, why not that way?" Morgan said with a philosophical shrug. "Still, just because your body CAN take abuse doesn't mean it should."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-06 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why not?" Hit Girl asked. "If you know what your body can do, what it can take, why not test it a little bit? Isn't that the way you learn how to surpass limits, get stronger?"
morganknight: (nervous?)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-07 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's a difference between that and abuse, though. It's like flexibility training. You stretch a little farther, your body learns to adapt. You stretch too far, and you just hurt yourself."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well I'm not looking to hurt myself, just push a little further," Hit Girl said. "I'm not dumb enough to push so hard I start breaking bones or get a hernia or something. It's just, if you know what you can do and you haven't reached that yet, you test yourself out, get your feet wet, prepare yourself. That's all I'm trying to do."
morganknight: (a little somber)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-09 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"If you call it abuse, you're more likely to treat it like that, though," Morgan said. "Words are as powerful as weapons, and need to be handled just as carefully."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-09 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Abuse doesn't always have to be negative," Hit Girl replied. "It can sometimes just be something that's hard. I've been through tons of what I'd call abuse, but I've come out better for it. But even I know when I have to step off."
morganknight: (nervous?)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-10 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I can't think of a situation where I'd call abuse a good thing, even if good things can come out of it. You can make something good out of most things if you put your heart and effort into it, but that doesn't mean the thing itself is good."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-10 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Being shot at, even when you're wearing bulletproof vest hurt," Hit Girl said, "but as long as you're doing it for a good thing, being able to withstand sharp impacts and violent body blows, its for a better purpose, right?"
morganknight: (a little somber)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-11 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Those aren't things you do because you can, but because you have to," Morgan said. "It's always better not to get shot or hit. Of course," he added, more thoughtfully, "I'm displaying a certain amount of bias for soft styles, there, in which impact is redirected rather than absorbed. It is possible, and often best, to absorb an impact in a way that doesn't harm you, but I still don't think it's the same as you're suggesting."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess," Hit Girl said, "But its still a kind of abuse that needs to happen. Besides, I keep telling you, I'm not out to disfigure myself or anything: I just want to live up to the potential I know I can put out, you know? And what I don;t know, what I'm still not as knowledgeable in, you can help me with, right?"
morganknight: (smirking sort of)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-12 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is what I'm trying to do," he said, grinning. "At least from my perspective."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then we don't have any problems," Hit Girl answered back, grinning. "Obviously there's a lot I need to learn about how you teach."
morganknight: (grin)

[personal profile] morganknight 2011-10-13 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Naturally," he said. "But I'll slot you for a one-on-one session, no problems. I gotta learn about you in return, after all."

[identity profile] hit-girl-mindy.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right!" Hit Girl said, then noticed Lash and Allenby talking. "Boy, that should be good."
