Reflections of time amidst a flurry of arrows [Open]

Kate had done a patrol in the city earlier, and she debated on stopping by the Media library for something to watch. Something to distract her from the encounter with Ir.. no, *Nathanial*. Otherwise now mini-Kang in the making. All that work he did, everything to stop it, and asking for their help. Well, mainly Eli, Teddy, and Billy's help since Cassie and her came late into the game there. Still. They tried to help too. Until they found out what that help would mean.

She sighed, and her steps took her to the Sensoriums. But she wasn't going to use it for sentimental reasons. Oh no. Even if the surroundings resembled the training room of the Clubhouse, it was for function and practice. Not to get lost in nostalgia, there's a clear difference as she sighted her target and fired another arrow.

Wasn't there?

With no other plans for the day, Rei Hino's schedule defaulted to 'beating the solidity out of various street monsters'. That's right, it's her training time once again. Nothing distracted her from the overwhelming helplessness of the situation quite like destroying the enemy with carefully controlled rage.

Which is quite a contrast to the sight in front of her. Rei watches in silent admiration as the other girl strikes the targets with a cool grace. Archery was like that---precise, rational, elegant. She waits for a break in the action to avoid startling Kate, and then announces her presence with a wave.

"Hey. Are you feeling up to two-player training today?"

"Mine are back here, thank you." Rei hoisted her own quiver up from where it had been hidden behind her back to emphasize. "I'm not quite the sharpshooter you are yet, but I'm hoping to learn."

So. Target time. Rei turned to a target a safe distance away from where Kate had been shooting. "Would you rather talk a little between shots or stay quiet? Since I'm the one who interrupted you, I'll follow your lead. I don't mind either way."

"Not bad, cher," someone says in a smooth, deep voice with a thick accent. If Kate were to turn around, she would spot a tall man wearing a brown duster over top his plantsuit, with dark brown hair that hung down over a pair of blazing red eyes, eyes that were locked directly on her, and fiddling with what appeared to be a deck of cards.

Grinning confidently, Gambit pushed off the wall and approached Kate with a casual swagger. "Quite de eye you got dere," he said, nodding at the target and her well-aimed shots.

"Sounds fine." Smiling slightly, Rei tested her bow string and shuffled over to her target. A moment later, she's shifted stiffly into position and nocked her first arrow.

"Patrol? You were a crimefighter?"

"Dat I am," Remy replied as he approached. "De name's Gambit. But de ladies call me Remy. You welcome to both."

"---Oh. Like this?" Rei's shoulder slipped into a more natural position as she moved to fire again. Not as close to the mark as Kate's was, but at least it struck the target at all. There was time to improve.

"From the name, I'd guess you were a group of vigilantes. Was it like that?"

"Non, Gambit never heard of dem," Remy answered. "Dey your team?"

Tony popped into the sensorium, intent on getting a burger at O'Malley's and maybe enjoying a big soda. Or clean water and an actual shower. However, he was brought up short by the sight of Kate putting arrows into targets. he hadn't actually seen much of her since right before the mission, but...

"Hey! Kate! How're you doing?"

[identity profile] playsin-traffic.livejournal.com 2009-07-11 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Tony shrugged, hands slipping to his sides instinctively. Dammit, he was still getting used to not having pockets.

"Been doin' alright. Still getting used to all of this, still pondering... uh... the whole... mission thing and what it meant. Wonderin' if we're ever gonna get home. You know, the usual, 'Oh God, I've been abducted by aliens,' thing."

"I tink so, cher," Gambit replied with a nod. "Everyone here dat Gambit know don't seem to know Gambit. And dere some who seem to know me but I don't know dem."

"Pixie? Oui, Gambit met her. Seem she know more 'bout me dan I do," he said, rubbing the back of his neck--obviously uncomfortable with the idea that someone on board might have dirt on him, especially if that dirt was something he hadn't yet done.

"We sorta do, don't we? I mean, we're the heroes of a billion different worlds... think they'd need us back home or something."

He smiled, "Besides, we're heroes. And if comic books have taught me anything, it's that the good guys always win in the end."

He was joking, of course. In the real world, things often turned out horribly.
