Exhaustion!

After fighting in a massive planetary battle -- well, less 'fighting' and more 'healing people, occasionally from literal death' -- the Akashic was, in a word, exhausted.

Not necessarily physically; regardless of how grueling shifts in Medbay might be at the moment, he made a point to stick to his schedule, sleep plenty, eat (ugh) enough gruel, and keep his body in shape. Not necessarily mentally either; good health and self-care, along with meditation and discipline, helped in that matter as well.

There was just a certain level of core, deep, ground-in exhaustion that couldn't be banished that easily, though. So that left only one thing to do for the best relaxation:

Snowboard in the sensorium.

"Yeah," Rachel replied, nodding. Most of her activity was always gymnastics-- so at least she had the sense of balance going for her-- but she had an okay idea about others. She dropped her board down, positioning herself left food forward. She'd just never actually had a chance to try this stuff.

He plunked down in the snow without much regard for his dignity, indicating his board (which he'd added bindings to. He was going to teach this properly). "When you put your feet in, you want to make sure there's no movement or give whatsoever. No shifting or flexing. Tighten 'em up tight."

He put action to words, showing her just how they were fixed by sticking his own feet in them.

Rachel nodded to that. She was much more graceful in lowering herself to do up the bindings, which she did with care. She may have been reckless, but she wasn't stupid. "Right," she agreed, glancing over at him for a moment, before finishing up her own and trying them a bit to make sure they were tight. Admittedly, though, she was a bit impatient to get to the good stuff.

"You don't want to go shooting down the hill straight off, so cave a quick furrow." He lifted his legs, then brought then down so his board cut into the snow.

For all that he'd plunked down, he got up quite gracefully and fluidly, especially for someone with his feet strapped to a board. "Now, first step is the easy one, just a quick run down to get used to the feel and the balance." He shot her a quick smile. "I don't think you'll have any problem staying up, though."

"Right," Rachel said, following his lead on that. Afterwards, she lifted herself up with at least her natural grace to keep her steady. She nodded to him at that, shifting carefully. She figured she could balance well enough (she never liked the balance beam, though, admittedly), with her experience. Moving again, glancing at him briefly first, she went ahead and let herself head down the hill.

He nodded encouragingly when she looked, then started down just behind her, keeping a careful eye on her form so he could offer any necessary advice later.

Also because it was nice to look at. So sue him.

While she didn't really have the knowledge to go with boarding, she at least has a great sense of balance and control over herself. So at least she had that, though she'd have to figure out actual form.

On the bright side, this was pretty cool.

Don't worry. He can be subtle about it (so long as she doesn't change into shorts, and really, why WOULD she in this environment?). And to be fair, he IS keeping an eye on her technique first and foremost.

Not that he really needed to, as they reached the bottom. "That's about what I figured," he said cheerfully as he slid to a stop. "Now we'll get into something that will actually challenge you."

"Great," Rachel replied, flashing a kind of half smile at that. She wasn't the most enthusiastic person, no, but she'd be lying to say that she hadn't enjoyed that, at least a little. Or if she said she wasn't interested in doing more. "Let's do it."

"Next up is actual turning!" he said, stepping towards the teleport platform he'd wisely placed at the bottom of this hill. "It's a matter of shifting your weight. Whichever side your weight is on will act as a brake, making you turn. So you lean on your toes, you turn the direction your feet are facing; lean on your heels, and you turn the other way."

He finished the sentence just as the platform whisked him back up to their starting point.

"Right. Sounds fine," Rachel agreed, with a nod. She followed along back to the top of the hill. "Sounds fine to me," she said. It was a pretty simple concept, all in all. She got herself ready to go down, waiting on Morgan before she did.

He slid his feet into the bindings, then got to his feet smoothly, all practice and looking good. Then, he grandly beckoned to the hill. "Don't feel bad if it takes you a few runs to get the hang of it. That's normal. Start by turning easily, straightening up, then turning the other way. You're most likely to catch an edge when you're straightening, so coming out of the turn is the part that needs the most practice.

Rachel prepped herself to take the hill again with no comment, before she rose an incredulous eyebrow to Morgan's assurance that it was okay if she didn't get it at first. She took that as a kind of challenge, honestly. She was sure she could do it.

"Right, we'll see how it goes," she said, flippantly, before starting off. And, okay, maybe she was a little bit more unsteady with this, being unused to it. But she was determined to rock.

She reminded him, just a little, of himself when he'd started learning. Of course, he'd been much worse, and very quick to anger and criticize himself when he hadn't lived up to his own arbitrary standards.

Well, lessons learned in time... He started down the hill after her, watching. The first turn would be key.

Rachel was wrapped up in her own world, for the moment, not thinking much on Morgan. Focus was important, and she knew that, especially since she was just starting out. On the first turn she went a little sharp-- nearly lost herself, but she fought to right herself, gain back some of her gymnastics balance. She probably saved herself from the tumble, though it was close.

He let out a low whistle. Morgan found that impressive! It was much easier to not fall than it was to recover from a fall, especially starting out, so props to her.

Rachel smiled smugly to herself when she heard that whistle, rushing down to the bottom of the hill. Just don't let her get too cocky, Morgan. She stopped herself as best she could, still a little shaky.

"Good recovery there," he said as he slid to a picture-perfect stop next to her. "You see what I was saying about when you were most likely to catch an edge, though?"

"Thanks," Rachel said, flashing a smile at that. Then she nodded. "Right. I think I could feel it."
