Holes and Patches [OPEN FREE FOR ALL]

After the battle, the warriors' task was over. Their job, for now, was to rest and recover for the time being.

The healers' job, on the other hand, was far from over. Some exhausted from the battle, others rotating in, they took to their bay and continued the process of treating the wounded. Some patients were free to leave in a few minutes, while others would have some time (or quite some time) on the cots. Their mission: relax. Stay as still as possible.

Unfortunately, the temptation of so many familiar faces alive and about would ultimately prove to be too great. Keeping track of this group was going to be a third task all its own.

[this is a free for all for all your injured! Have them socialize, be thorns in the medics' side, try to escape, or bring the medics together for some action. Just note in your post if you'd like a medic to visit your character---if not, it's time for a chat!]

"Very okay! So okay," the Doctor hides his sniffle behind his tower of books, "that I thought I'd check up on you two. You're looking fantastic."

He says that last bit to Victoria, a bit more gently than he would normally to, say, Jamie as she helps him with the books. Soon enough the books are sitting in an imposing wall next to Jamie, all demanding to be read first and don't Jamie dare start with that stroppy paperback to the left! The Doctor reaches out to pay Victoria on the shoulder for her help and then turns to Jamie, taking in his injuries. Actually, he's gotten off rather well, all things considered, and the Doctor's relieved. After the conversation with the Master, well. Time with your friends is the best thing there is.

"I'm still sorting out the TARDIS," the Doctor glosses over the fact that the Master not once, but twice has managed to gut her, in a manner of speaking. No need to alarm the humans. Jumpy lot! "So I'd advise you two to find temporary sleeping...arrangements onboard Stacy while I'm working."

There's a distinct look of dismay on Jamie's face as the books are stacked next to him, but it's hard to say if it's because Victoria had to let go or if it's because, well, there's so many books. Quite possibly it's a bit of both.

"When do you expect me to read all those?" he says, some of that particular look creeping into his voice. "I'll not be there that long!"

It's quite possible there would have been more in that vein, but then the Doctor has to go and mention sorting out the TARDIS, which...he thought that the problems after he had been hypnotized had been fixed already. He glances over at Victoria with a somewhat puzzled expression, then turns back to the Doctor. "What happened?"

Victoria nearly mirrors Jamie's puzzled expression, along with her own worry. That sounds like such a strange request, and one that causes Victoria's mind to wonder just where she could sleep that isn't inside there - after all, it has her old dress and a bed that she's been getting quite comfortable in...

"Yes Doctor, do tell us what happened!"

Really, Jamie? The Doctor knows humans can be rather...well, slow in taking in loads of information compared to other species in the galaxy, but it's times like this he's reminded of that little thing all over again. The Doctor blinks at Jamie and then Victoria.

"Ah, the TARDIS," the Doctor says, with those briefest of pauses he tends to make when he's about to fib just a little. "Had a few hiccups. Blurps, you might even say! Some minor damage from the Ohm, that's all, but it's nothing I can't fix. Think of it like camping in Stacy!"

Camping in slime access shafts and those curious little nostril-like beds he'd tested out for fun before they found the TARDIS. He was rather fond of those! There is far, far, far worse places to have to stay than Stacy in his opinion and he trusts both his friends here to be able to make the most of it. Victoria, however, might need a bit more time to acclimatize, he thinks, eyeing the human.

Well, it could be that humans are slow in taking in information...or it could be the fact that he's sitting up in a chair (as uncomfortable as it is right now) and only sporting minor injuries. Even a race that's much faster at reading would likely be hard pressed to get through the stack that the Doctor's provided to his young friend in the time he'd be spending in Medbay.

He flicks another, much more knowing glance at Victoria at the pause. He's heard that one often enough to know he's likely not going to get much in the way of answers - and even if he did they'd likely be ones he really doesn't want to hear.

"Oh, aye. I see." He's no more happy about the idea of moving out of the TARDIS then Victoria is, but at least he's lived on the ship long enough to get an idea of where to go that doesn't involve sleeping in noses. "Well, I suppose there's the crew quarters, if they're not badly damaged. Or there's city, but that'd take a bit longer to find someplace there, I think."

Not to mention it'd likely have to be fixed up unless one of their friends let them stay in their places, and he doesn't think Victoria would want to impose. However, where they go could very well depend on how long the TARDIS needed fixing.

"Do ye think that it'll take long, Doctor?"

There is something rather fishy about this, and Victoria is always the bright lady when she fells someone is fibbing...yet something tells her that if the Doctor is not saying everything, then it might be for their own good. Victoria's trust in him is rather great - questionably to a fault. Regardless, the idea of living somewhere that is not the TARDIS really does worry her. She looks at Jamie again, as if he somehow has all the magical answers.

"What is around the city?" she wonders, her curiosity getting the better of her. "I don't think I've visited it much at all!" She turns to the Doctor again.

"And yes, how long do you think it will be, Doctor?"

"What is around the city - " The Doctor repeats. He looks faintly scandalized she's even asking. "Everything! Ever fancied seeing the (Partial) Great Wall of China! Well, now you can. You and Jamie."

The Doctor makes a motion like he wants to consult his watch, only to realize it's still gone and hasn't magically come back (well! Can't hurt to check -- stranger things have happened!). Maybe he ought to look for a replacement. The Doctor turns toward Victoria, putting a hand on her shoulder and giving her one of those pats that might feel almost like his old, shorter self, before smiling at his two humans. Not his his. His friends. That's all.

"Could be a few days, could be a few weeks." The Doctor is positively unhelpful. "Don't worry! I'm sure you'll find plenty of interesting things to keep busy with."

"Aye, well, not quite everything," Jamie corrects. "I've not seen anything from Scotland...well, other than Goliath's castle, and I don't recall that being around in my day. The Doctor's right, though. There's a lot of buildings that Stacy's saved, and there'd be places to sleep in them."

Granted, most of them might require a bit of repair work to make them liveable. Since the Doctor's also not being particularly helpful in giving them a better idea of how long the repairs would take, though, he's getting the strong impression they could very well have the time to do that. "There's some parks and things as well that ye might like. We could start around there and see what we could find."

Granted, that assumes that Victoria would prefer to try and find something there. Thinking about it, he finds he wouldn't mind if she did - if they're not going to be able to stay in the TARDIS, he would very much like to have the chance to spend time with her somewhere. The city could be a good place to do just that. And if they do find something and it needs to be fixed up, well, it wouldn't be the first time he's done something like that there. If it makes her happy, it's well worth it.

But he's still not entirely sure if that's where she wants to go. A slightly uncertain glance is cast over at the Doctor, something of his internal thoughts reflected in his eyes before he turns his attention back to her. "Er, that is, if you'd care to do that. If not, I'll help ye get settled in the crew quarters."
