Holes and Patches [OPEN FREE FOR ALL]

After the battle, the warriors' task was over. Their job, for now, was to rest and recover for the time being.

The healers' job, on the other hand, was far from over. Some exhausted from the battle, others rotating in, they took to their bay and continued the process of treating the wounded. Some patients were free to leave in a few minutes, while others would have some time (or quite some time) on the cots. Their mission: relax. Stay as still as possible.

Unfortunately, the temptation of so many familiar faces alive and about would ultimately prove to be too great. Keeping track of this group was going to be a third task all its own.

[this is a free for all for all your injured! Have them socialize, be thorns in the medics' side, try to escape, or bring the medics together for some action. Just note in your post if you'd like a medic to visit your character---if not, it's time for a chat!]

Aibghalien | Open

An extremely irritated wizard sat in a bunk off to the side; low-priority, no wounds, no evident problems.

But someone had foolishly tested the limits of the evacuation, and slightly overestimated his magic. His most powerful spells had made him practically invulnerable to anything...

Except radiation.

So here he was, dosed up on DTPA and Prussian Blue while waiting for his blood counts, and angry. Since no one had had the time to explain exactly what it is he had been subjected to that necessitated all this.

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
With pretty good eyesight and the sure-making that he'd remember everyone he saw down below during the fighting, Jr. spotted Aibghalien straight away when he peeked into medbay. He looked alive, and that was most important, but a small wave of concern washed over his face at the fact that he he was there at all.

"Hey..." he started slowly as he walked over to Aibghalien's bunk. "You okay?"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I certainly feel all right!" he grumbled. "A bit sick, nauseated, but after that battle who wouldn't be? But apparently I've been exposed to some 'radiation' thing, which apparently necessitates that I sit around here enduring all this damnable medication while having my blood removed for what reasons only the gods I do not believe in know!"

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah ... sorry." Jr. rubbed the back of his neck, but cast Aibghalien a wondering glance. He didn't know what radiation was? Maybe he should try to at least explain it so the sorcerer wouldn't be as angry to have to stay in medbay.

"But it's probably a good thing to stay on the safe side, you know? Radiation can be a pretty dangerous thing, even in small doses. You don't have it where you're from?"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I have never heard the term before," Aibghalien said rather haughtily, as if this made the term somehow inferior or contemptuous. "I assume it is some sort of attack which relies on 'science'."

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't call it an attack, exactly, though it can certainly be used as one. Think stuff like nuclear powered weapons, the kind of waves it lets off can seriously screw with not only your immediate health, but long term, and it can cause gene mutations and all other kinds of ugly things." Did Aibghalien know what nuclear even meant? Jr. had no idea, but he hoped the rest of the terms hit him familiarly.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"So, it is something like negative energy?" It, of course, wasn't at all, but this was as close as his mind could come to slotting it into a term he understood.

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's not a bad way to look at it, even though when not ... leaking everywhere it's actually pretty useful stuff. But it's more or less playing with fire, no matter how you try to slice it." Jr. gave him a small nod, figuring that was a good enough way to look at it. "Since you've never dealt with it before, they probably just wanna make sure you didn't get hit hard enough by it to cause any big problems."

A beat. "But I'm sure it won't turn into that." And then it was time to try and steer the conversation into a more lighter direction. "But, hey, you were pretty damn awesome out there!"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm a wizard, manipulation of fire is kind of my thing," he grumbled.

Flattery wasn't about to cheer him up; by his own standards he'd barely performed up to par. "Now that I've gone up against them large-scale it will be substantially easier to plan against their existing techniques in the future. I have a lot of spell research to do, clearly."

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"It was more an expression. Handling dangerous things that you know are dangerous" He idly kicked one of his heels on the floor, thinking about what Aibghalien said after that. "Yeah ... I've never actually been in a battle that big with them, before." And it was tough. Jr. wondered just how many of these things made up the whole race. And according to some of the things he had heard, there were new ones among them compared to the crew's last encounter. Would they be sending out more numbers and newer types next time, now that they knew how capable their enemies were? It left a small feeling of dread in the pit of his stomach.

"Even the Sensorium simulations weren't like the real thing. Though they'll still be useful to carve out better ideas of how to attack'em."

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He reflected on the battle, or the many fights that comprised it anyway, as he compared it to prior experiences. "That is the largest battle I have been in, but not the most dangerous. Nevertheless, I have enough insight to begin preparing new tactics... as they surely will. I cannot expect to continue to have the same successes with the same strategies."

[identity profile] carrieswar.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, 'course not." Those Titans had been a bitch and a half to fight, and it was eerie how much they resembled the mobile suits and his own unit. "Can everyone do the sort of magic you can where you're from?"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-09-02 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is a complicated question," Aibghalien said. "There is, to begin with, a difference between wizardry and sorcery, although the spells are exactly the same and both are arcane magic. Sorcery is inborn. Anyone with immortal blood, in a small or large amount, may have the gift, though it does not express itself outside of the elven people frequently even in those who meet that criteria. Wizardry, which is what I practice, is learned. Anyone can learn it."

Even as exhausted as she was, Celena had continued non-stop to aid where she could even after the end of the battle. Having done her all during the evacuation to save all she could. Making her way back through the Medbay, even in her tired state as it was it did not take her long at all to spot Aibghalien, a smile drawn to her lips at the sight. Making a course straight over to the wizard.

"There you are, I had wondered where you'd gotten off to," She started with a smile, relieved to see that he at least seemed fine.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
He sat up just a little straighter as she approached -- the elf did have his dignity after all. But even as he stretched out a hand towards her, he voiced a half-indignant, half-plaintive question.

"What is 'radiation' anyway?!"
curiousredsoul: (Elven)

[personal profile] curiousredsoul 2011-08-30 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
She couldn't help but smile a little more as he straightened himself at the sight of her, taking his hand gently as offered. Her head tilting lightly at the question before a slightly worried look passed over her expression as she shifted her vision briefly before her expression relaxed.

"Radiation is a form of energetic particle or wave, one that can be quite dangerous in enough quantities as it can damage the very make up of ones being on the smallest level, I gather you pushed the limits on time staying outside the shield, fortunately not for too long however,"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"I assumed the form of a troll, all the wounds I endured were fully regenerated," he said, still irritated. "I shouldn't be in any danger whatsoever."
curiousredsoul: (Elven2)

[personal profile] curiousredsoul 2011-08-30 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Indeed, however radiation damages one in such a way that such regeneration would not be effective, if anything it would damage the ability to regenerate in that form," She replied softly as she moved around to sit beside him on the bunk.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
He frowned. "So it cannot be regenerated. What about fast healing? Surely that would function? I certainly don't feel unwell. Perhaps a bit nauseated, but after such a battle is that not to be expected?"
curiousredsoul: (Elven2)

[personal profile] curiousredsoul 2011-08-30 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
"To a degree it may help, fortunately you haven't taken in too much. The nausea is likely from the radiation poisoning in your system...it will pass fortunately, had you stayed out there for too long though..." She trails off at that, her concern evident.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"There has to be some mechanism by which this 'radiation' damage can be healed or immunized against!" he grumbled. That he had failed to do so implied a weakness or failing in his own magical capacity, which of course he could not abide. "I suppose healing it proper may lie in the realm of divine magic, but adaptation or negation must surely be possible!"
curiousredsoul: (Elven)

[personal profile] curiousredsoul 2011-08-31 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
"In most cases, adequate shielding can negate the radiation, however the type given off by the Firewyrm in this case was of an unknown and especially potent variety, thus requiring shields of of the power of those that protected the evacuation zones," Celena replied easily in return, "With study perhaps, restorative spells, those that cure of afflictions could perhaps rid the body of foreign particles such as the radiation, it is hard to say for sure whether they would be entirely effective however,"

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is energy, is it not? If magic can deflect or absorb conventional forms of energy, it can absorb this too. It is simply the nature of magic to not be directly extensible," Aibghalien said.
curiousredsoul: (Elven)

[personal profile] curiousredsoul 2011-09-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"To a degree, however the form the Ohm were giving off in this case was unlike any I've seen, even magical barriers may not have been sufficient, for lower levels of radiation, magic barriers should be sufficiently powerful to deter, if made for the purpose," Celena replied in turn thoughtfully.

[identity profile] for-magic.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
"If I can ward away other forms of energy, certainly I can ward away this," he insisted. "I just need to determine how."
