The Awesomeporium is Open for Business! [Open]

Lash couldn't complain about her life on the ship. In fact, if asked, she might have regarded it as 'pretty good'. In the time she had been there, she had become a Power Ranger (in the brightest of yellow colors), become friends with a rather colorful cast (not that she'd admit it out loud) and even really, really liked a guy (not that she'd admit that out loud either).

During the attack on Galilee, Lash and Zetta had used the distraction to go around and steal--er prolong borrowed some of the items in the nearby shopping mall. It was only fair, considering what they had been put through! Not that neither really cared about morals anyway.

After taking their share, they found themselves with a rather large amount of items and strange knicknacks that might interest the rest of of the ship's fine citizens. Maybe not enough clothing to dress everyone up or to give them a pair of fitting shoes, but she was sure someone could appreciate a new shirt or two, or use them for rags or other creative uses they could find. Therefore their next part of the plan came into motion; if they built it, the others would come.

One of the city's many abandon buildings had been getting fixed and patched up the last few days since their arrival, an old store getting a second lease on life. Only, you know, this one involved demons and afro girls and stolen merchandise. But it was okay! This wasn't going to be a purchasing store, but a bartering one. In between their talks, meets and crashing a prom in the best of ways, they'd managed to get a very crude and badly painted "THE AWESOMEMPORIUM" in dripping red paint over the building front. One of the windows also had the rules, also painted with the same brushstrokes;

1) Find stuff you like
2) Exchange it to us for stuff and service you have
3) We have the right to refuse any deals
4) No Zedds allowed

Truthfully, both Wunderkind and Overlord had very little use of extra materials they might get in return, being people of simple needs. However, just giving items away would label them as being too nice. Turning stolen goods into a store and hiding behind a bartering system? Now that was much more devious. Besides, maybe they'd end up with some pretty cool items and tools in exchange, or having half of the ship owe them favors. Both were prospects interesting enough to follow.

Inside, the store was brightly lit thanks to Lash's repairing skills and Zetta's Merchant Minions (which Lash fondly liked to call Sonja Jr's) walked around the shop, tending to to the shelves and making sure everything looked presentable. Everything was in sections, with the same red paint just put on the shelves (lacking proper materials for labeling) so people would know what they were exchanging for.

Most of the time, Dog, Lash's alien green caterpillar dog was in the store, being lazy behind the counter. Dog was looking abnormally fat lately, barely moving around. The counter sometimes had Lash standing there working on fixing an item, a book lazying around, sometimes the both of them, or sometimes just a merchant minion standing there when neither of them where available. Rest assured, they'd find out what you traded when they were gone.

And just to make sure it could easily be found, one of Galilee's fabulous floating fountains now stood in front, hovering for no real reason that it was built that way. Sometimes you could find Lash was riding in it on a good day or early in the morning.

[[OOC info - this is the list of things that Lash and Zetta have available (one item is slightly unsafe for work). The list will be constantly updated depending on what your characters want and what they exchange for it. Sometimes the bartered stuff might end up on the list if neither of them have use for it.]]

"Why would you avoid money?" He did NOT understand these people.

"I've got to hear the details about that from someone who isn't Lash, sometime. Not that I don't love her version!"

She pursed her lips, considering. "Not all of us are as powerful as you, Councilor. Worrying about consequences to our actions is practically second nature for some people. Because we actually can get punished by the authorities, instead of only having a few who can get at us."

And of course Anwei did have - or had - a rather large and extremely ill-gotten fortune in the bank. Large enough that she'd been able to ignore it, and just let Horanckk manage it for her.

Her ears turned pink. "Oh, well, there was this death ray about to explode, and we knew that there was a mind-control device somewhere around her person, and so we - I - just had to look for it and get it off of her very very fast."

The less said about the mind-control brassiere, the better.

"You're missing the point, though. The consequences and the actions got taken out of our hands as soon as someone in charge decided we weren't gonna stick with the plan any more. We're all screwed because of the actions of a few of us anyway. No point holding back."

Also, Zetta really enjoyed stealing things, causing havoc and mischief, and wandering away from the meaningless battle. But he wasn't gonna admit all THAT out loud.

"...Lash tells that story better," he grumbled.

"So as soon as someone goes off-plan, you can do as you please? That must be fun." And please, don't let her ever be sent on a mission with Zetta.

Because someone always goes off-plan. Always.

"She seems to be a very talented young lady. It wouldn't surprise me if story-telling was one of her gifts." That with a slightly sly look; she had noticed Lash and a certain Overlord frolicking in the surf at the beach party.

"More like, as soon as the plan's been thrown so far out the window we're in danger of it smashing through the wall on the other side. It's all about knowing what's coming and how it's gonna burn you," he said.

And then he grinned again. "Oh yeah, Lash is great."

They sure hadn't been subtle about it...

"Surfing the catastrophe. That seems very - right, for you." She could even picture him in his humanoids form, flaming hair billowing and hissing in the salt (make that blood) spray, side-sliding over his enemies with a smile.

"Glad to hear that someone appreciates all of Lash's qualities. Some people might find her taste for adding a laser to everything a little alarming." She wondered if this store had laser security. Probably not; Zetta could probably just leave some minions here.

"...Why? I never understood that. Things with lasers are good."

Yeah, match made in.... well, not heaven, but... somewhere suitable.

[identity profile] 8wings.livejournal.com 2011-08-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lasers are such a - flexible tool: for light, for burning, for sealing, for signaling, for cutting. Quite wonderful." She squeezed her arm against her side, to feel the familiar weight of her own messaging laser. If only there had been a ship to send a message to, at Galilee! "Some people just don't have Lash's immutable self-confidence that anything she can make, she can unmake before it unmakes her."

What an AI designer she would make!

"Hmm, you know, I saw a woman once who had a holographic headdress; she had really thick hair, rather like Lash's, and the hologram was just this thinnest layer of wavering blue flame, all over. Quite striking. It would look great on her."

And knowing Lash, she'd figure out a way to set the hologram to 'scorch' or 'blind' for emergency use.

"Funny story about that unmaking thing." Zetta glanced left and right to make sure Lash wasn't coming, then lowered his voice conspiratorially.

"When I first was hitting on her -- I, uh, was only 1700 at the time, that whole clock thing -- she challenged me to a battle to earn a date. We went to a sensorium and got in this giant fight with huge robots, it was based on a video game we both like. Anyway, she decided that to win, she'd self-destruct her robot and catch me in the explosion, because destroying the other robot earned the most points."

He paused to let the implications sink in, slowly grinning. "Of course, she didn't stop to think that self-destructing would wreck her robot first..."

[identity profile] 8wings.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
"She destroyed a giant robot - her own giant robot - just to get at you, and win a date?"

She clasped her fingers together under her chin, beaming. "That's soooooo romantic!"
badassfreakingoverlord: (crap I'm a book)

[personal profile] badassfreakingoverlord 2011-08-21 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Whoa, whoa, too far!" Zetta said. "She destroyed her own giant robot to beat me. She just hadn't thought the move through. And remember, the deal was that if I won, she had to go on a date with me! So technically she was trying NOT to go on it, but... we, uh, both kinda forgot what the ante was while we were playing."

[identity profile] 8wings.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
She scratched her chin. "Oh, sorry, I thought that she was fighting you to get the date, not vice versa." Culture differences - although she didn't think that Lash and Zetta were from the same reality.

It was probably romantic enough for a book and a young lady to find enough common ground to date.

Well, he hadn't been a book at the time. Actually, that extremely elaborate series of coincidences had been the only thing that made possible the whole relationship.

"Naw, Lash doesn't know a thing about dating or anything. Of course, if she HAD won, I would've convinced her that now she had to take ME on a date... but there was never any question that I'd win." The book grinned so smugly.
