The future is a threat, not a promise [closed for now]
Well Loren had to admit, this place was a lot freakier than any spaceship she'd been in before, and she'd been in a few. But that wasn't what was bothering her, it was the future.
Elfangor was going to leave, going to die, even. Her son didn't know her until later in his life? Why? There were a lot of questions and she wasn't sure she wanted to know the answers. That didn't change the fact that she needed to know. There had to be some way to stop it from happening when she returned.
So after the introductions in the Obs Deck she kept close to Elfangor and as soon as she was alone with him she asked the questions that were burning in her mind.
"Elfangor, I have to know. What happens to me?"

"Elfangor, I have to know. What happens to me?"

He turned to face Loren when she asked, looking at her worriedly. < Tobias says you will get into an accident when he's a child. One that will not let you be able to take care of Tobias yourself, so you left. I assume so you didn't have to make your son see you struggling as you tried to get better. > He could see no other reason for her abandoning anyone besides not wanting them to suffer at her own suffering.

"An accident." Loren echoed softly. "Did he say what kind?" Something bad enough that she'd give up her own son, the thought of that being in her future...

"Not only did you leave but I'm not supposed to remember you?" She really needed to hit something later. "And then I'm in an accident, I can't take care of my son-- I can't believe that's a coincidence."

He paused at the next comment. < It does seem to be a bit much. > He said, his thought speak sounding thoughtful. < ...Tobias...was a key piece in the Ellimist's team. It might have been that whoever is on the other side of this game tried to ruin Tobias' chances of being helpful by making things worse for you. It might be why your memories resurfaced. > Well, it was a thought.

She drifted closer to Elfangor and put an arm around him in a half hug. It made her feel more comfortable. "You keep mentioning a game, is that all we are to the Ellimist? Pieces in a game? There isn't anything I can do to stop this?"

Elfangor wrapped one of his arms around her as well, pulling her a bit closer. It just seemed easier than normal to be more physical on his feelings with her around. Even if others thought he was rather physical for an Andalite anyway. < Yes. That's what we are. And unfortunately it seems we're unable to stop being those pieces, but you might be able to avoid most of the damage. I have to leave Earth. From what Tobias told me, that is, unfortunately, essential. I have to come to Earth later and give him and his friends the ability to morph so they can save Earth. Other than that...we should be able to do something. > As much as he wanted to stay with Loren, he couldn't have both his homes destroyed and have Loren suffer a most likely very painful death and who knows what would happen to Tobias.

"You said you were taken right before you died. How did-- how might it happen?"
Have fun trying to doge that one, Elfangor.

< It...wasn't pretty. >

< The Dome Ship had come to Earth to deal with the Yeerk ships in orbit. We didn't notice a blade ship that was there until it was too late. The Dome Ship lost, the Dome even ejecting to Earth. Which is how Aximili, my brother, got there. I was in a fighter and my ship was damaged and I was wounded. > He paused a moment. < Gravely wounded. I had landed, thinking of an insane idea to use the Time Matrix, but it was buried under construction. That's how I met Tobias and his friends and decided to give them the power to morph. Minutes later...the Visser landed. Visser Three by then. >
He couldn't quite get himself to look at her at this point, dreading the look of horror he expected on her face. < He wanted to kill me himself. He used Alloran's body and took the form of a huge, monstrous form. He was holding me above his mouth before I remember waking up from the pods. >

Loren stepped away from Elfangor, turned her back to him, and placed her hands on her hips. She stared at the floor, still silent.

< It's why I hope I can avoid it. >

"You are not going to die like that."

She pressed a kiss to Elfangor's cheek.
Because he didn't have any lips."You haven't seen me in how long? 15 years? I'd miss you too."

Oh yes, there was a reason she would marry this man, there was a reason indeed.
"What did you do? Fight the Yeerks?" She knew he'd given up on being a war hero but it seemed the Ellimist had other plans.
no subject
< Yes. I became the War Hero I had wanted to be before our adventure. > Elfangor said. < Because it needed to be done. >

"What does this make us? You're my husband from the future and when I'm from, we're dating. It's a little weird." Understatement. "I don't know what to call you."

Was a damn good question.
He thought for a moment on his answer. How should they address each other? Then again... < Whatever you're most comfortable with. As long as I get to be close to your heart, I'm fine with any title. >

"Well," She began slowly, still thinking it over in her mind. "I care about you and you care about me, I don't think it really matters what we call each other. And unless you think your past self would mind if we were together..."

"I know I am."

"That's the least of our problems." She said with a smile.
