Video Games (Open)

It had been one of those little things Reimi was never really good at, but she had settled into a routine since she had gone to the Media Library so long ago. Having booted up a cute looking JRPG or something close to it, she listened to the opening theme as she began to play, selecting her character.

Right now, playing away, she is almost oblivious to anyone coming up to visit with her.

"Hmm. Maybe I'll try it out sometime -- what is it, exactly? A roleplaying game? Virtual reality?"

He blinked. "You're a soldier? You did mention that you needed to know how to defend yourself, I believe..."

"Massively Multiplayer Online game, but it's got a preset timeline of various moments in history you can visit," replied Reimi. "So it's really free flowing and fluid in that regard."

"Yeah, I've been trained in a unique method of combat, mostly archery and martial arts as well as the use of Railgun weaponry," replied Reimi. "It was a duty of a member of our space exploratory group to be up to date on these things."

"Ah, so it's a historical fiction-type game? But there aren't many people on the ship that play it, are there? Doesn't it get a little repetitive, playing a multiplayer game by yourself?"

Zouichi frowned. "I see. Was your training difficult? If you'll forgive me for saying so, you seem pretty young for a soldier."

"No one plays it, but... you'd have to experience the Sphere for yourself. It's like a whole world, untouched by anything you've seen. Travelling the vast Star Ocean... finding and seeing how the universe pans out from year to year..." Reimi sighed, thinking of her home, encapsulated within that little program.

Reimi smiled at that. "I'm pretty young yeah, though my training was rudimentary at best. Most of it I learn over the course of the time I spent out in the stars."

He smiled a little. "That sounds... nice. I've never heard anyone describe it as an ocean of stars before. Although I suppose in many ways, space is like an ocean."

Like how pretty it was, and how you traveled through it in ships, and how the difference in pressure and lack of breathable oxygen could kill a human in minutes.

"It must be why all those science fiction movies use naval conventions."

"Experiential learning, huh? You must have seen a lot of different worlds."

"Yeah, it's sort of the goal of our people, to find places to live and all," replied Reimi, setting the game on pause for a moment so she could talk to Zouichi directly.

"I have, just a few. Aeos, Roak... good people in each one," said Reimi.

Oops.

"Sorry, didn't mean to make you stop playing. Er, is this a multiplayer game? I can try not to drag you down."

Reimi smiled as she activated the second controller and handed it to him. "It's pretty simple to pick up. Don't worry, you can control the second character here."

"Thanks," he said, taking the controller. "This game certainly is very... cute."

"Old Japanese RPGs tend to be in a similar design," said Reimi. "It's the style of the era really."

"Hmm. I don't think I've played any classic games, either."

"So. Do you have a favorite world?"

"Classic to me would be anything shorter than a Xbox 360," replied Reimi with a little grin. "From Microsoft, the pre-war media giant."

She nodded at that. "Roak by far was my favorite, despite getting sick there."

"Micro...soft?" For a minute, he thought she might be talking about Microvolt. "That's pretty much ancient for me. A 21st century company, right?"

"Oh? I'm sorry to hear that; what happened? And why Roak?"

"Yes it was one of the biggest groups back in the day," said Reimi.

"I caught the petrification virus. Edge and the others helped me out. I like Roak though because it's a beautiful place. And the people are good to us."
