Celebratory drinks

It hadn't been long since he'd received the news of his success in obtaining the open spot in the council. He had little doubt that there had been a close running between he and at least one of the others, if their time on the ship and popularity were anything to go by. Nevertheless he had been voted in and he intended to do what he did best. If he could turn Sanction from a down trodden slave ridden city to the prosperous city it was before he'd been brought here, he could help this ship work for the better. He no intentions of letting the crew down.

As he had told Kang over the omnicomms he could hardly refuse a celebratory drink or two, to do so would be rude after all. A good drink on such an occasion couldn't hurt and so he was once more at the door to the Drunken dragon. Pausing for but a moment at the threshold of the door, schooling his thoughts before striding to meet with his fellow councilor, governor and the only other from Krynn. A draconian and a dragon on the same council, even if no one knew of it. They would know in time though, Kang would know in time, but for now he pushed that thought to the back of his mind, tonight was meant to be celebratory night after all.

Kang already had something besides ale out on the bar: two large bottles labeled as Jack Daniels whiskey and Sauza tequila, and two shot glasses. As soon as he saw Bight, he waved him over with a grin. "I hope you're prepared for the headaches you're going to get. I suppose you're used to them now after forty years of running Sanction, though."

"Neither does Teyr. More often than not, I came home after the sun set because of some sort of problem that came out of nowhere," Kang shook his head. "You're right, though, this is supposed to be a night for celebration, not complaining or worries."

He indicated the two bottles, "I managed to find these down on XaXing. They're liquors from Earth, and they taste a hell of a lot better than dwarf spirits."

It was rarer to see Rhiow in the Tavern nowadays - ever since the clock was brought on board, she didn't have the energy to make her rounds every day. But the election results were in, and she hoped she would find the newest member to their Council at the Tavern. If nothing else, she wanted to talk to Kang.

Luck was with her today. She trotted in and found both of the people she'd been hoping to see. "Dai stiho," she said, leaping onto the bar. "Well met, Councilor, and congratulations. I'm Councilor Rhiow, I know you already know Hh'ann."

Kang grinned at Rhiow and poured two shots of whiskey, setting one of the shot glasses in front of Bight, "Haven't seen you around for a while, Rhiow. You been trying to avoid the children?" He knew they weren't always careful with animals like cats and dogs.

He laughed, "Here's to hoping you do, then. The drink I miss most, though, is cactus juice. I was lucky enough to find several casks here, but it didn't last long."

"I've been too tired to short-jump everywhere," she said. "Holding the anti-aural field around the Melting Clock... well, it's hard."

She needed to find a steady source of power aboard the ship, something like a central catenary to tie into when she needed a boost or a long-term spell. "I'd use the thamaturgical battery but I drained it with the shield around Ssam's den. I'm going to need to pass it to Arhu soon." She flopped down on her side, yawning hugely. She was also ravenous, a byproduct of the continuous energy expenditure.

"Try not to overwork yourself if you can help it," Kang frowned slightly. "Is there any way others could donate energy for it?"

He quirked an eyebrow ridge at Bight, amused, "Really? What I wouldn't give to see the look on Slith's face when he finds out it was popular enough to make its way out of Teyr."

"Like I said, I'm going to pass it off to Arhu soon. He's younger than me, he has more power to draw on. That is if we don't find a way to reverse the process before then. I'm living in hope, these days."

She flicked her ear, yawning hugely, and then turned to address Bight. "So. Ready to step into the game? There's the usual mix of people to watch out for and those that aren't any threat. There's a few more that I think know more about playing haiushh than they let on, and I've been keeping an eye on them."

Kang nodded. Hope was what kept him going at times, when his family weighed most heavily on his mind. "Yes, hope is important. And, I'm glad to hear that it's come in useful for talks." He winked.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Drink it." He downed his own shot, demonstrating how to do it properly.

"Well," Rhiow said, stretching out along the bar, her claws sinking into the wood, "There's Hh'ann here - he gets the job done when you need him to. Word around the ship is that he makes things happen when you need it to happen quick. Su'fhermah'n is good to rely on as a moral compass, of sorts - he's always most interested in what's just. Dhianeila is a bit of an idealist, but you need those in war. Sshe-ta is all about practicality and his ideas have merit, but he sometimes goes too far and forgets about the emotional element of the crew."

She tilted her head to Kang to see if her evaluations were met with agreement. She knew they had somewhat different opinions at times, but they were usually on the same page on Council matters.

"It is surprisingly balanced," Kang agreed, pouring another round of shots. "Careful with the claws, Rhiow. Do you want some water?"

"But it's perfectly good wood for sharpening," Rhiow said plaintively. She would never understand bipeds and their fixation on possessions. Who really cared if there were some claw marks in the wood? It felt so nice.

"Water would be lovely, thank you," she said, and sat back to clean out some of the sawdust from under her claws. "Then of course there's the Prince, who mostly seems to want to please the crew, and h'Nehaalis-tha - one of the very last of her kind, a kind of holy woman. She and Sshe-ta get along about as well as two toms in the mating season."

"I don't want Celdak to come back to a scratched-up bar," Kang gave Rhiow a quick scritch behind the ears and went to fetch her some water.

He could still hear the two talking, and when he came back and set the bowl down, he laughed, "Nehaa is a paladin, and she doesn't like demons on principle. She's not anywhere near as insufferable as a Solamnic, though. Nor is Zetta anything like a Dark Knight; he doesn't even bother to pretend to have any honor." It was obvious from the shortening of her name and the tone of his voice that she was a close friend.

Rhiow craned her neck out and drank, ignoring Kang with the practiced efficiency of a feline. It was a block of wood that people drank on. Who cared if it was in one piece or not? She licked her whiskers and sat back from the bowl.

"In any case, I look forward to seeing what you will add. We're a big bunch of very different people and it's tough to get us to agree on anything but the most obviously beneficial solutions."
